  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 18, 2010 -> 11:52 PM) If that happens, I'll change my stance. The freshman QB is definitely hindering the offense, but they are pretty strong on defense and at running the ball, and also have a strong field goal kicker to aid them in close games. If that isn't enough for them to win out at home and steal one of their remaining road games to get them to 7 wins, I'd be pretty surprised.
  2. Hard to predict where Iowa will end up because of how BRUTAL their remaining home schedule is. Even the game at Northwestern isn't a walk in the park either. Outside of absolutely s***ting their pants in the 1st half at Arizona though, Iowa has been very impressive, so they're capable of winning out. But if they dent the loss column again with that schedule, it would be understandable, even with the three toughest games at home.
  3. Well Illinois has Indiana and Purdue at home the next two weeks, so we'll find out some things. I fully expect Illinois to win both of those though, and with the defense Illinois has, I think it's more than reasonable to say they'll win at Michigan too. Illinois really should finish with no less than 7 wins based on what they've shown so far and the schedule they have left, and they're capable of winning any game left. I don't think they will though, and 7-5 or 8-4 seems more reasonable (although anything from 6-6 to 9-3 wouldn't surprise me, even though those assume either 0-3 or 3-0 on the road to finish out, and both of those would be a mild upset). I'd be pretty surprised if Illinois loses again at home though. Either way, Illinois is CLEARLY better than Penn State, just for starters.
  4. Bulls win 50 games after a bit of a slow start, take a weak (but tight) Central Division crown over a mid to high 40's win team 90 miles to the north, lose in round 2. Heat win 67 games, but lose to Boston in the ECF Thunder lose to Lakers in the WCF. In a true last hurrah for both teams, LA beats Boston in the NBA Finals and Kobe gets his 6th and final ring. This however could go haywire with both of these teams being old, and if neither makes The Finals, it wouldn't shock me at all. And if such plays out, the 2011 Finals may look like the ones I anticipate in 2012....and thus: VERY early prediction: Thunder vs. Heat in 2012 NBA finals, and it goes 7 games. The Heat machine will be at peak level in year 2 IMO (Dwyane Wade is going to fall apart physically a lot earlier than most people seem to realize, probably by year 3 or 4), but the Thunder are just going to be such a force by June of 2012.
  5. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 18, 2010 -> 10:13 PM) Sharpie and Hossa have been decent so far this season... They have both been amazing, carrying the team. Turco has also been really good (although the first goal he gave up tonight was horrid). I think as good as Hossa was last year, it seems like maybe that shoulder was bothering him all along because he's on a different level this season. Also, John Scott is HORRIBLE. Absolute waste of roster space. He's the one that needs to be in Rockford, not Leddy. I'm hoping the only reason he's around and active right now is because of the stretch of schedule (revenge game for Buffalo Saturday, two games against the dirty Blues this week, Canucks Wednesday). He should either be getting scratched or headed up I-90, and I hope it happens soon.
  6. Remember when everybody (and I mean EVERYBODY, I can't remember one person who liked the hire) laughed at Auburn for hiring Gene Chizik? And Charles Barkely implied it was racist since they didn't hire Turner Gill? Yeah, ummm, oops. That's what the Auburn AD has his job, and we don't. And I refuse to get all up in a tizzy over the first BCS standings. There is a lot of stuff that is still going to play out before everything is said and done.
  7. I would just like to take this opportunity to say that Les Miles is the luckiest man in America. He is the worst coach in the history of football (I honestly don't think that's hyperbolic) at clock management, yet they keep winning. Every year, there is a team at this point who is undefeated that I root against until they lose because they don't deserve to be, and that team is LSU this year. Also, Michigan State is going to go undefeated if they win at Iowa (which is admittedly a very tall order) because I cannot see anybody else on their schedule beating them at all. I think this story, which is pretty amazing, is going underreported right now. Mark Dantonio is some sort of genius. Lastly, Boise may be #1 in the BCS now, but I can't see it lasting. If two or more big boys go undefeated, the Boise WAC schedule will catch up with them and rightly keep them out of the title game. However, I think this development shows that if 1 or 0 big boys finish undefeated, Boise will be in the title game. And that's also fair IMO.
  8. Good Lord the defense was DREADFUL tonight. I'm just going to be thankful they somehow got a road point out of that mess, and hope they tighten a few things up for the big night Saturday.
  9. I can't see anybody completely shutting down the Michigan offense. But I can see some teams slowing them down a little bit, and beating them in 41-27 type games, because that Michigan defense is a joke.
  10. Whatever pharmacist Jose Bautista hired, I hope he's being compensated very well for his efforts (as long as he doesn't get caught).
  11. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 10:46 PM) I hate LeBron because didn't come to Chicago. I bet there a lot of fans of (insert team here) who hate LeBron James because he didn't go to (insert city here). That is why the decision was such a bad idea, because he tortured sooooo many fans with the possibility that he might make their dreams come true . . . only to tear them apart on live TV. I don't hate LeBron because he didn't come to Chicago. He was a free agent and thus part of the deal was he might not come here. I hate him because he took out an hour to tear out the hearts of his hometown (sorry LeBron, saying you're from Akron and not Cleveland is like somebody saying they are from Naperville and not Chicago) and stroke his own ego. That's 95 percent of the reason I hate him, with the other 5 percent being split between the fact that he made the p**** move and went to Miami, and the fact that's an egomanical little b**** despite having never won anything.
  12. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 11:40 PM) That guy? I guess you mean me... Well, I think it's documented in previous posts that I do know the history since I grew up a huge Illinois fan (I probably know more about that football/basketball programs than most around here, including yourself). Quite honestly, all of my 7 uncles never let an opportunity pass to talk s*** about Bruce Pearl to me and how he majorly set-back the Illinois program that was on the verge of becoming great. Furthermore, a lot of Tennessee fans do know about the Pearl-Illinois thing - at least all of my friends do and many others I've talked to. And while I admit that Pearl is sleazy (I've never argued against it), he's also my coach. So, yeah, I support him. Plus, he just wins. Actually, since Pearl was hired at UT, they've been a more successful basketball team than Illinois. Considering UT is a football school that has never really had an continued success in basketball, that's even more impressive. Anyway, I got off-track there a bit... So, I stand by my original point in that I think the kid who likely turned us in to the NCAA is a b**** if he really did it. What Pearl did to Illinois 20 years ago was also a b**** move. Still, if Craft went to the NCAA about an illegal visit to Pearl's house (and I still think it looks pretty likely he was involved), it was incredibly immature and unnecessary. I can't even begin to list all the illegal recruiting that goes on at every school when they have recruits visit. And when a kid finally signs with a school, he doesn't rat out other schools that recruited him. You just don't do that. Bold point 1: Wrong. Bold point 2: At least you realize it. I just don't get calling out a kid for being a b**** when his coach was a b**** as a grown man. It's pretty hypocritical to still support Pearl while you seem to hate the kid. But that's how fans are.
  13. While I don't feel murder ever makes sense, this one REALLY doesn't make sense. Can't even imagine the pain for Zak and Sarah, as well as other family and close friends involved, just horrible.
  14. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 11:54 PM) The irony here is just awesome. I literally LOL'd as I read that post. That guy (and the people at Tennessee) must not know the history of Bruce Pearl very well. Karma is a b****.
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) DaVaris Daniels to Notre Dame Must have been overwhelmed watching them get run off their own field by Stanford last week to fall to 1-3.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) of course he did. and ESPN is eating it up I refuse to watch Sportscenter or most ESPN programming for that matter, but I'm told they have a team of reporters doing live reports all week from Heat training camp and are analzying everything going on there? What a joke, that channel just gets worse and worse. Of course they're eating up the race card thing too. The biggest reason (by far) LeBron is hated is because of "The Decision" and that was aired by ESPN. Combine that with the fact they'll have 52 Heat games on this year, and it's in their best interest to try and help LeBron recover some of his image. But that won't be happening. I won't even address him playing the race card, as it's laughable. LeBron isn't hated because he's black, he's hated because he's an asshole and an idiot.
  17. You could kind of see it coming with the Reds for a few years now. Not a surprise to see them ending their postseason drought. It's cool to see teams like the Reds, Rangers, and Rays (although the Rays obviously had their coming out party in 2008, but you get the idea) in the playoffs.
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 10:49 PM) Him being the manager when all the starters got CGs in the playoffs and almost the entire roster became clutch hitters at one time was hardly his doing - at least his alone. He was just in the right place at the right time when everything fell into place. Yeah but he made a lot of right moves that postseason, some of which Rock pointed out earlier. And he does deserve credit for actually letting the starters pitch all but 2/3 of an inning in the ALCS, a lot of guys wouldn't do that. While I think he's not a good manager, I can't begrudge him 2005.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 05:51 PM) Great post Rock. He led that team to the championship, and he deserves a ton of credit for it. The reason I said 2005 shouldn't be taken into consideration is because any grace period needs to have been erased by now. Exactly. The 2005 team in and of itself was awesome. Ozzie Guillen's managerial performance in 2005 was also awesome. I just think both were flukes, and the grace period for them is over.
  20. Tampa Bay's victories the last two days have made the title of this thread to now be accurate, we're officially mathematically out of the playoffs entirely. Sad.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 22, 2010 -> 09:55 AM) lol. greg went postal. Ain't nobody banning you. Calm down. And when I sober up I'll explain to you why I think that year was a fluke. I don't see how you can say 2005 wasn't a fluke at this point. I don't get why people get mad at those of us who call it a fluke. It doesn't make 2005 not feel great, it doesn't change the fact that the championship was earned, and it doesn't cheapen what happened at all. But 2005 was still a fluke.
  22. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 22, 2010 -> 01:58 AM) No. Why do you say that? You're wrong btw.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 21, 2010 -> 11:55 PM) Atleast you have the Hawks. I don't follow the NBA or NHL, and the Bills are terrible, so I get homework to try and lift my spirits. I'm not a huge NFL fan, and I'm disgusted by the NBA right now (although I like the Bulls and they are going to be pretty good). So I have the Hawks and college sports now. Beats homework, which just makes me sad. By the way, the title of this thread is a lie. Our tragic number is 2 in the Wild Card. So it's NOT mathematically ova yet!
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 21, 2010 -> 11:50 PM) Not that I want to compare the White Sox to losing a loved one, but in a way, this moment is always like losing a family member who was suffering from a terminal disease. You know it's going to happen at some point, but it always hurts more when it actually happens. This sucks. Yep. I'll be watching the Hawks preseason game tomorrow to try and lift my spirits a bit. But the Sox are definitely my #1 favorite team in any sport, so my mixture of sadness and anger is high right now since it's officially over.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 21, 2010 -> 11:28 PM) Seems like Ozzie and Sox might go their separate ways in a few months if JR/KW don't extend his contract http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,2031227.story Don't get my hopes up like that fathom.
