QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 3, 2007 -> 12:54 PM) On paper you're right, but here's the big question; how much value did he drop because of the recurrence of his back injury at the end of last season? Not NEARLY as much value was lost due to his back injury as will be lost this year as he is going back to being the hitter he really is, and is a year older and closer to free agency.
-
We should have traded Crede after last season when he was at peak value. Some ripped it here, but I stand by what I said which is last year was a career year at the plate for Joe, not a breakout one (big difference). I think Dye is gone for sure, and Buehrle should stay. If we can keep Buehrle, along with having Vazquez and Danks and Garland, plus Gio and Masset as well as Contreras, our SP is in great shape for a while IMO. Who knew? The pitching in our system looks pretty good and we have little offense. So backwards.

21 and 6' even.

This one will be far bigger than BALCO, the names that come out should be interesting. It's just a shame all the records are gone forever no matter what happens here.

This Bill was absolute trash, and I'm glad it was vetoed. And for the first time in.....well a while, the Democrats look like the bad guys because they refused to give in AT ALL in terms of compromise and with their comments today look like they are throwing the troops under the bus. Both parties are at fault to an extent, and Bush obviously started this bizarre and stupid war, but the Democrats are losing the PR battle today, and that is the only thing that matters in politics anymore since nothing of substance is ever actually done anymore.

People are STILL paying attention to the gun on Sox games? No matter what channel we are on, that gun is WAY off. Come on guys, your smarter than that.

QUOTE(Shadows @ May 2, 2007 -> 11:00 AM) Im just wondering what your basis is for this.. IIRC, he didnt return a kick off or punt ever while at Northern Illinois He was recruited originally as a kick return guy, and returned kicks in 2004 until our starter at the time, A.J. Harris, got hurt and he took his job. He's never returned punts though, although that's not releveant with Devin on the team. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:17 AM) Great. The kid will be hurt very quickly. He'll be banged up a lot, but he'll play. Anybody that signs liability waivers before games is willing to play through pain. He missed 4 games (I think it was 4, but either way it was only about a month) with a complete MCL tear. He's not going to get hurt getting 1/10th the touches on the Bears that he did here. -
Spending the last couple years in classes with a lot of basketball players and offensive/defensive lineman has made me pretty much not notice tall people anymore. I marvel far more at the really short people really.
-
Should have traded Crede at peak value. Not that it matters, the whole offense sucks right now and that wouldn't be a huge thing, but just a thought. Oh, and Jermaine Dye, enjoy your new paper wherever you end up. How many solid SP efforts can one team waste?

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 1, 2007 -> 11:38 PM) The way they just blew that game combined with Dallas' new momentum plus just an emotional meltdown by Golden State is gonna make it real hard to regroup for game 6. Not really, that crowd is gonna be thirsty for blood. That is all the mental help the GSW will need, problem is they have all the pressure now because they ain't winning a game 7 in Dallas. -

The refs gave Dallas the game? LMAO, try Golden State with one of the worst choke jobs in recent NBA memory. They better figure out a way to get themselves together and win game 6, because that is a ball punch to give one away like that. -

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 1, 2007 -> 04:05 PM) Yep, there should be a 100% pass on all college behavior. This is the one time that you can treat humans like garbage plenty of time to act human later. I can't wait to you guys have daughters. You will be so much cooler than adults now "Hey man, sing that one where you stick your dick in my daughters ear, I love that" Should women find it offensive? Yeah probably, which is why Olsen and everybody in this song was stupid to actually record it, this should stay behind closed doors. However, like it or not, talk like this happens in every college dorm room/apartment/party out there. The question is whether or not they are messing around with their comments or not, and it sure as hell doesn't sound like they are serious. I am the biggest hater of "DA U" out there, but I had no problem with this when it originally came out other than the stupidity of actually recording it for others to hear, and I feel the same way now. And even my female friends who I asked about this story out of curiosity said it was just "boys being boys". Doesn't make it right, but doesn't mean it's hurting anybody either. QUOTE(Texsox @ May 1, 2007 -> 05:50 PM) Yep, and as rap has become more popular, the image of women has declined. We could mark '83 as the beginning of the decline. I would contest that women's lib, the decreasing amounts of clothes attractive women wear, and alcohol (all choices by said gender) have declined the image of women more than rap music. These girls in the rap videos are there by choice, as are the girls gone wild trash, and so on. Bad parenting, and to a much smaller extent the takeover of political correctness have hurt society far more than rap music. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 1, 2007 -> 03:14 PM) Darius Walker has a better chance to make this team than Wolfe IMO. An UFA is the favorite over a 1st day pick to make a team that has 2 returning tailbacks? Outstanding. QUOTE(Fotop @ May 1, 2007 -> 07:46 PM) Frankly, much like a few others here...I don't get the fascination with Wolfe. Fast? Yes, but not blow your socks off fast. Productive? Yea, but against arguably 2nd tier competition. Basically any positive said about him can be followed with a but. To me, that's not a good sign. Factor that in along with his size, and one's gotta wonder if he can hack it in the NFL. Obviously I trust Angelo when it comes to later round draft picks, maybe he sees some Warrick Dunn in Wolfe? Who knows. All I know is I would have grabbed someone like Pittman or Lorenzo Booker (who I believe was taken right before the Bears pick). Wolfe is going to be exactly what Angelo wants, IF he stays healthy. Like I said, Wolfe's fate is based hand in hand on if Benson is what the Bears think he is. If Benson is really good, Wolfe will be a steal pick, if he's not and Wolfe has to carry it 20 times....forget it. -
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ May 1, 2007 -> 09:00 PM) Don't feel too sorry for the network, the Yankees are up 9-0 and Phillip "The Savior" Hughes has a no-hitter through 6. I will give ESPN this, Papelbon and Hughes both ain't no joke (despite Travis Buck Dye'ing Papelbomb tonight, and it looks like BoSox are going to lose in 10).

Action and intent are FAR more important than words. You can't just start making "word crimes" because of fear. If the person is a whack job, something other than their essays will tell you that. Awareness and improved mental health care is how you try and stop mass shootings, not banning words in essays.

QUOTE(Fotop @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 08:29 PM) Right, because his stock would have been so much higher next year. Hmmmm face 8 in the box next year on every down because Quinn is gone, and may not even be the guy that has the bulk of the carries...sounds like a great idea! Don't get me wrong, Darius was a good back for ND and put up good numbers (still think he'll be a serviceable 3rd down back in the league) but coming out a year early was the right choice. No Quinn + a stable of backs = not much room for improvement. I agree, actually. Also, ND has at least 2 backs who might be better than Walker and he would have fought his balls off to even be a starter. It looked like he'd be a 3rd or 4th rounder, didn't work out that way. I'm just shocked he wasn't picked at all, he's a decent player. -

I was shocked at the flow Olsen had actually. For a white guy, he can spit pretty well (although he says he didn't write the lyrics, but whatever). Kudos to the #31 pick in that regard. -

I have a bad feeling the Warriors might sandbag tonight and put all their energy into winning this thing in Oakland in game 6. I know that crowd is great and they play well out there, but I hope that isn't how they go into tonight. I have a bad feeling it will be though. -

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ May 1, 2007 -> 02:12 PM) An improving Illinois team against Michigan in prime time at Memorial Stadium...it's like i've seen this before or something... The infamous Drew Henson/Refs game. I'll never forget that one, that and the 2001 Arizona/Illinois NCAA Tourney game are 2 of only 3 games i've ever seen (the 3rd is the 2002 West Playoffs Game 6 between the Lakers and Kings at Staples Center) that were undebateably decided by the refs. -

This is stuff that 100 percent of guys have at least joked about in college, my character comment was just messing with Angelo. The fact Olsen said all this doesn't make him a bad character, but the fact he said it on a recording that he knew could end up online for anyone to hear makes him pretty stupid. This is more an intelligence issue than character one. Anybody who thinks this kind of joking like in his rap doesn't go on everywhere is pretty ignorant. -
This is EASY. Any idiot can get hot in a game (I scored 41 points in an 8th grade game, for instance, and I'm nothing at basketball), but to stop a great player and hold them to next to nothing defensively involves minimum luck and maximum skill. Defense all the way.

Garrett Wolfe, NIU, Chicago Bears
whitesoxfan101 replied to Steve9347's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Bush is not what fits the Bears needs at all, and he's hurt REALLY badly, so I don't get that love here. I understand for sure that people could be upset over passing Pittman, as he could be a very good pro. I will say they reached a round early for Garrett, but he's a GREAT blocker and pass catcher for a running back and has home run ability, which makes him a perfect 3rd down back and change of pace guy, as well as somebody to stand next to Hester on kickoff returns. He fits EXACTLY what the Bears need if Benson is as good as they think he is. That is the most honest opinion I can give ya on him, having spent 3 years seeing him play every game. He isn't good enough to be a pro bowler, but he can do exactly what they drafted him to do very well. Key is, Benson has to be really good. QUOTE(CarlosMartinez @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 12:41 AM) Are they seriously going to use him over Ced or AP at any time?? He may have had one hell of a game against tOSU in game one, but did he carry that over the entire year, week after week?? Check out his numbers over 3 years. He torched Michigan for 150 at the big house, he had 202 yards in one half against a nationally ranked Bowling Green team, he had 225 yards against a Northwestern team that was a 4th and 21 stop against Penn State away from a Co-Big 10 title, he finished his career with 6,000 yards from scrimmage and over 5,000 rushing, and he didn't play a down as a freshman. There are a lot of things you can question, but production isn't on the list. The only slow down he had at all was late last year at times (and he still had almost 2,000 yards rushing), and that was because he was (1) playing for the worst offensive coordinator i've ever seen (enjoy him, Ga. Tech fans), (2) teams had 10 in the box (yes 10) on every play and (3) he was playing with a knee injury so bad he had to sign a waiver before every game so that NIU wouldn't be liable if he was badly injured due to the risk of playing. He's good enough to be what the Bears drafted him for, period. Benson HAS to be good though because Wolfe is not an every down NFL back. -

Michael Bush is never going to be the same with those injuries. The Darnell Autry comparison with Wolfe is pretty ignorant, however the Bears may come to regret taking Wolfe over Antonio Pittman IMO. -

Bulls finish off the sweep, as expected. And what is more fun, the Warriors team or crowd? WOW, hopefully they finish it off. Man, Bulls/Detroit is going to be a hell of a series. Oh, and I suck at MS Paint, lol. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 12:00 AM) He is the best player in this series. Getting Jackson and Harrington for Murphy and Dunleavy was a freaking awesome trade for the Warriors. No it wasn't, the Pacers improved their character in that deal, got rid of the bad apples, and are set for years to come.
