QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 10:09 PM) Yes, this is all basically true but it's really not what you said in the post I quoted. I do agree with what you said here though. Yeah maybe I didn't express myself right in the other post, the post you quote here is really what I meant to say.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) They only have 2 starters on that staff that have ever pitched more than 200 innings. It's going to be interesting to see how their arms hold up in the second half and down the stretch. Also, our staff is not nearly as bad as they have been lately.........no way. I have no faith at all in Vasquez or Garcia.....I think Buehrle will be fine though, and that Garland is now fine, and Jose of course is Jose. I honestly hope we trade Vasquez (or Garcia I guess, but I'd rather dump Javy, who's been bad for a lot longer, as in a few years) for something nice and put B-Mac in the rotation, he's ready and Vasquez could bring something nice in return. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) As bad as Buehlre has been of late, his ERA is still no where near 5 like Garland's and I really don't remember him sucking for 2.5 months like Garland did. Also Garcia was not as bad as Garland during that stretch but now that he hasn't picked it up he's catching more s*** than any other player on the team (outside of Widger). Also, Vazquez has been in the 3's and 4's of ERA all year, he's only recently touched 5. I really don't see how any of them have been as bad as Garland was for 2.5 months this year. Well Buehrle is up to about 4 and a half now, and Garcia and Vasquez are BARELY ahead of Garland in ERA now for the year. Garland was bad for longer than the other 3 have been, but still has an ERA nearly the same as Vasquez and Garcia, and one that is about 7/10 of a run worse than Buehrle. That to me really says that although Garland was bad longer, these 3 have just been AMAZINGLY AWFUL in this latest stretch.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) What's big for Garland is he hasn't given up a dong in 9 straight starts. That is actually quite amazing after he was leading the league with 19 given up at one point (he's tied for 7th most with Schilling now). For a while, it looked he was going to double his output from last year. Still, I'm not going to get overly excited until he actually gets his ERA under 5 for the season. Well that's simple, he's keeping his pitches down and attacking inside. When Jon does that, he's VERY good, it's just that he didn't decide to start doing it this year until mid June for some reason. When Jon is on, he shouldn't give up hardly any homers, since he simply doesn't throw pitchers that are up in the zone and over the plate ever when he is pitching his game.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 09:58 PM) As a long time supporter of Jon, I'm really glad to see him get rolling but he's going to have to keep it up and put the team on his back. If he can do that hopefully the other starters can see it and this staff can get back to what it was last year. I'm talking about a staff that fed off each starter who would go out trying to out duel the prior starter. They were all flat dealing and they all built up some serious confidence and weren't to be stopped. Now lets see Javy carry the momentum Garland gave us. I think Buehrle will be fine eventually, but I worry that Javy and Garcia are in a state of irreversable suck, which is why I would not cry if we trade either of them. Vasquez is pitching like he has for a few YEARS now (which is why i'd prefer to trade him instead of Garcia), and Freddy still can barely throw 90.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) Another bright spot of the day is Nate Robertson getting hit around again. He hasn't been all that great his last 3 starts, meaning he's hopefully coming back to being Nate Robertson. Yes, and hopefully we see 2nd half Kenny Rogers on Thursday. Their staff is very good, but they are not as good as they've pitched this year, no way. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 09:56 PM) No one has b****ed about Garland in quite a while and deservedly so, it still doesn't forgive him for being useless in April, horrid in May and pathetic for half of June. Though all in all it's great to see Garland finally comming around after being pretty bad for 2.5 out of 3.5 months this season. He was no worse during that stretch than Vasquez, Garcia, and Buehrle have been for an extended period of time now, yet got 10 times more s***.

Garland (next to Widger) has been overall, probably the most hated White Sox on the club this year. The big contract, the "fluke year" last year, the horrible start....he got it pretty rough. Jon since taking a loss against Detroit (our only loss to them all year) on June 8th has been very good in all but 1 start. Here are the numbers, not including the brief relief stint vs. Boston: (oh and random fact, Garland has not allowed a single unearned run all season, pretty crazy). Entering Streak: 4-3, 6.19 ERA. Now: 9-3, 5.12 ERA (improvement of over a run in only 6 starts) June 13 at Texas (Win): 5.1 IP, 5 hits, 2 runs (earned), 1 walk, no k's June 18 at Cincinnati (Win): 8 IP, 4 hits, 1 run (earned), 1 walk, 4 k's (and of course, the homer he hit) June 24 vs. Houston (ND): 5 IP, 8 hits, 5 runs (earned), 5 walks, 2 k's June 30 at Cubs (Win): 6 IP, 7 hits, 2 runs (earned), 1 walk, 4 k's July 5 vs. Baltimore (Win): 7.1 IP, 6 hits, 1 run (earned), 0 walks, 1 k Tonight at Detroit (Win): 7 IP, 6 hits, 1 run (earned), 1 walk, 5 k's Overall in stretch: 5-0 in 6 starts, 38.2 IP, 33 hits, 12 runs (earned), 9 walks, 16 k's, 1.02 WHIP, 2.83 ERA And damn, other than the 1 bad start vs. Houston (and hey, we won that game, and even if not, your allowed to have a bad start once every 6 times), he's been dominant: 5 starts, 5-0, 33.2 IP, 28 hits, 7 runs (earned), 4 walks, 14 k's, 0.96 WHIP, 1.90 ERA What's all this mean? It means that right now, Jon is our 2nd best starter, so get off his damn back please.

Well done all around. We need to sweep these assclowns, we'd only be 1 out (in the loss column, which is what matters) and plus, the Tigers don't scare me.....except when they are playing anybody but us. We need to give these guys as many losses as we can. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 05:11 PM) You are correct. However, if we were to throw in like Dustin Hermanson or Cliff Politte or some other mediocre reliever, the Sox could so get Dunn back. I mean, if Jim Bowden can do it, so can KW. Not true at all. Kearns and Lopez were guys they wanted to deal anyways. Kearns has an attitude problem, and they love Chris Denorfia and eventually, Jay Bruce in their OF along with Dunn (who they can now afford to sign long term) and Griff...and as for Lopez, they have Freel, Encarnacion, and Phillips who are 2 very good young players and a supersub 3rd guy/leadoff man in Freel. The Reds may have lost that trade, but they got much needed pen help and traded 2 guys that were going to be dealt anyways.
-
There is no way in hell Cincy would trade Homer Bailey, he is going to be a stud. And Todd Coffey blows, after that amazing start he's really come back to earth. Plus, the Reds could use another starter, but won't go for somebody as expensive as Freddy (although their rotation has 2 very good pitchers in Arroyo and Harang, a solid young guy in Ramirez, and a serviceable although overpaid lefty in Milton. That's more than good enough in the NL).
-
I believe, but I don't believe Rally Crede is going to fix the pitching staff. We'll make the playoffs, but October won't last very long unless we figure out how to quit giving up 7 runs.
-
Hawk has gotten on my nerves this year, he's an even bigger homer than he used to be. The game is on mute or i'm out watching it a lot more often now.
-
If the pitching wasn't so bad, we'd be up 5-3 with Jenks in instead of down 7-5 with the other teams closers in.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 09:41 AM) yep, who needs a back up catcher after all? Stewart is ten times better than Widge in his sleep, give him a chance.

JR Smith shipped to Den. for picks and Eisley

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) Second round picks are nearly useless and Eisley's gone immediately. Tell that to Gilbert Arenas. -
QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 12:05 AM) Yeah Painter is doing a great job. Hummel told me how much he liked him and we all have known since early May that he was going to Purdue. It was kind of a let down going to a state school like Purdue when he was getting looked at by Duke, U-Conn, UNC, ect. Hopefully the program can get back on track and do well. Heck of a 2007 class he's got, he's really taking advantage of the recruiting restrictions placed on Sampson's head.
-
He's a weak minded (insert venomous term here) and is a pain to watch. We are going to lose some games, and eventually so is Detroit, but Vasquez and his lack of balls is really sad to watch. What a wate of talent he looks like on the mound.
-
Yeah, the non midwest folks are probably going to be screwed by the ESPN eastern propaganda here. Sucks, sorry guys.
-
I'm skeptical, every AL team is hitting their stride now since they are playing AAA opponents. But we are winning the games we should against the NL's s*** teams, so that's a good sign.

Official Soxtalk 2006 World Cup Thread

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) I think they can do the first, and I don't think an upset in the second set is out of the question.... I would be shocked if Italy loses to Australia, Ukraine, or the Swiss. They were f***ing around against the U.S. for some reason, but they're real good. -
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 03:13 PM) Dont forget though that the cold weather is behind us and we have what's shaping up to be an awesome race between us and the Tigers so I think it's entirely possible. It'll be close. The average will go up IMO by the time the season ends, and if we played in a bigger park, we'd definitely pass 3 million IMO. However, due to the fact we can't fit more than 39,500 into the park for any regular season games, I think 3 million will be very difficult. I'd guess we end up average somewhere in the 36,000 plus a few hundred in change range per game, for somewhere in the 2.8 to 2.95 million tickets sold season total and a record for sellouts in a year. Still not bad though of course. According to the White Sox website, the attendance record is 2,934,154 set in 1991 (1st year at the new digs), another number we could break, but it would be hard to get to. Of course, if we make the playoffs and include that, we'll head right past 3 million.
-
Actually, to be accurate, you need to average 37,038 per game for a season to nose ahead of the 3 million mark for an 81 game home schedule, not 37,911. Going into tonight, we have an average of 35,125 through 39 games, so we need to get the average up 1913 more per game in the last 42 home games to get over 3 million. It's possible I think, but would be very hard to do.
-
ALCS=World Series. If we make the playoffs again, it's almost like we're 7 wins from repeating as the Champs, that's how big a difference these 2 leagues have right now. I think the Mets are pretty good, but other than them.....I have no reason to believe that any other NL team does not suck.

Kenny's thoughts on Ozzie and possible consequences
whitesoxfan101 replied to WSoxMatt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I have a question for all the Ozzie defenders here. First of all, did KW say he is going to fire Ozzie? No he didn't, so calm down already. Kenny is saying that if Ozzie continues down this path, he might have to fire him....and you know what, he's RIGHT!! If Ozzie keeps this s*** up, eventually Kenny will have no choice, sorry but that's the fact. Second question, who is more important, KW or Ozzie?? The answer is KW by far, and your simply lying to yourself if you say otherwise. OZZIE HIMSELF says "you can't win the Kentucky Derby riding a donkey" and KENNY is the man that has put together these spectacular rosters the last 2 years for Ozzie to work with. We can find somebody else to manage this team to titles if we had to for some God awful reason fire Ozzie....as long as we have KW building our roster. If KW were gone?? It would be a lot harder to win, since no manager can win with a roster full of s***, and we'd have to find a great GM to replace Kenny in that senario.
