Chisoxfn is on the right track.....if only Ozzie were smart enough to agree with him here. We have 7 guys that can rake, and the 2 that can't play gold glove defense, so we can afford to play them anyways. It's pretty simple, and the higher ERA of this team is part bullpen struggles, but MUCH bigger part bad defense, especially in CF. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) What makes that so clear? The fact that on 4-5 days rest after pitching 1-2 innings, BMac has come out rusty and struggled? Just look at his stuff compared to his 2nd go around last year. Early on this year, his stuff was VERY crisp and he was on fire....but as the bullpen act began to wear on his arm, his stuff has been less crisp and location not as effective, and here we are with B-Mac at a 5 ERA.

QUOTE(beautox @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:23 PM) that would be nice, i thought maybe McCarthy could've/could be that bridge this year. B Mac is going to be a VERY good starter....but I think it's pretty clear he doesn't have that "rubber arm" type mentality in the pen and isn't a guy that can pitch 3 times in 5 days and get it done. He's just a starter, that's really all there is too it IMO. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:17 PM) This is kind of off topic but didnt Shields throw something like a 200 plus pitches in a college or highschool game? Id like to see Tracey do that Yeah he did, and so did Kerry Wood on more than 1 occasion...

I know it's been said here by some, but I agree that if Tracey can have consistent control, he could be a Scot Shields type out of the pen.

Has anyone "converted" someone to being a SOX fan recently?
whitesoxfan101 replied to Hangar18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) That counts too by the way .................. Yeah, I used to just go to games with my father and brother, but now I go to more games and have high demand from friends to go to games with them. It's a great time going with friends, especially with the big crowds to add to the atmosphere. -
I remember my dad saying "Anderson had to be cheating somehow, I've never seen a guy that sucks hit 50 homers" immediately after that season he did it (1996 or 1997). Turns out he was right.
-
Now if he could also get run and defensive support, he very well could win the Cy Young.

I haven't converted anyone, however I have convert several casual Sox fans into crazy die hards like myself. -
Ok, I'll play the "guess who the interview is" game, and I'll say Justin Edwards.

Greenies are a performance enhancer, but they really weren't giving anybody a "competitive advantage" since just about everybody was on them. Interesting subject though.

Germany wins a 4-2 game over Costa Rica. Lots of bad defense and good offense combine for an amazingly high scoring game considering it was the very first game. -
Whether or not there is a test for HGH yet is a point of debate, with contradicting stories from all kinds of people. Some I've heard say there is an HGH test through a blood test that was ready just in time for Turin, others have said they did the blood tests and kept samples "retroactively", so that when there is an HGH test ready, then can go back and check the blood samples for it. That issue is VERY confusing.

QUOTE(G&T @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 09:35 AM) That's not really what I was doing. I was just throwing it out there for people to think about. But there is one big difference between the two guys. Pujols looks like a body builder that learned to hit a baseball, while Thome looks like a lumberjack that learned to hit a baseball. Bonds, Sosa, McGuire, and Canseco all looked more like body builders. All good points, but I think it's been proven that your body doesn't make you innocent or guilty. People of all shapes, sizes, and positions are doing illegal s*** in baseball....it's out of control and you never know who is innocent and who is guilty now. Sad but true.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 02:42 PM) That is ABSOLUTELY NOT why the Republicans will lose seats in November, if they do. They will lose seats because they are becoming Democrat pussies. I'll just leave it at that. Both parties are becoming extremist, and I agree that the fact republicans are starting to pussy out is a big reason why seats will be lost. However, the Bush administration isn't helping either.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 08:56 AM) Anniston is the white bread, girl next door, Miss America type, which is fine. I prefer a chick with a bit of a darker side and some mystery to her, it keeps it interesting. BTW, I don't think Angelina is wierd, she made a few wierd comments earlier in her career, but she seems really grounded now. Add 12 lbs. to her and you have perfection. That's kinda how I look at it too. She was way weird in the past, but she seems a lot more grounded now without Billy Bob around and all the work she does in Africa is great IMO.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 08:35 AM) Sorry to hijack, but is this HGH stuff the same stuff that is legally sold at GNC and other supplement suppliers and all over the internet?? Nope, you have to have a perscription to get any form of HGH. The reason it's so popular (besides not being testable right now), is the fact that it has very similar affects as steroids do and apparently isn't as risky for your health. Now if HGH was legal and sold over the counter, this issue wouldn't be an issue at all.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:04 AM) The Mavs are just insanely deep and versatile. They've got atleast 5 guys who can go off for 20+ points in any given game. Terry was the man in game 1. The Heat have to do a better job of getting the ball inside to Shaq if they're to have a chance in this series. The Mavs are more talented, athletic, and deeper than the Heat. Shaq can be the equalizer, though. I just love that Dallas team, they are such a joy to watch. They are deep, talented, play two way basketball, and are versatile. They really play the game the right way, and Avery Johnson is a hell of a coach and the GM Donn Nelson has built a hell of a roster for him as well. -
That pic of Aniston is from 1996 btw, the one in this thread. I'm taking Angelina all the way based on looks, although her personality is a bit strange.

Between the delivery and raw stuff, Tracey has legit major league bullpen stuff, he has the ability to pitch and pitch very well out of the pen. The key is and will continue to be control, so let's hope he and Coop keep working.

If Miami loses this series (which I think they will), they'll look back at this as one that got away. Heat could have won this game as the Mavs were off all night, but Jason Terry went off and they survived and got a win. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 12:28 AM) Thome's been upfront about steroids since it became a media issue after '98. I'm pretty sure he's said that his way of getting big and strong is steak and eggs. I'm pretty sure that Thome is clean. To be honest, I was always skeptical of him until he got here. I hope I'm wrong, but there are a lot of reasons to believe his name will come up here. Again I hope I am wrong, and this is speculating on my part...I don't have facts or sources or anything to back this up. Then again, I think the names of at least a few members of those 90's Indians teams and 1999 and 2000 Yankee teams are going to come up as well, and those will be bomeshells as well.

QUOTE(G&T @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) What makes Pujols suspicious to me is that it is well known that he did not hit for power like this when he was drafted...but on the other hand, Hawk was talking about how Thome couldn't for power either. (A change in batting stance helped his power ability, according to Hawk in that story). Using Thome as an example of how you can develop incredible power after coming into the draft without it may turn out to be a VERY bad example.....

Fun random stat of the day: The Cubs are 4-21 on WGN this year. Even more fun random stat of the day: The Cubs have lost 18 consecutive games televised on WGN. Pretty mind boggling considering they are what, 22-36? I mean that would make them 18-15 for non WGN games.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 11:15 PM) I would be incredibly pissed to find someone like Pujols dragged into this s***. But the one thing everytime one of these steroid allegations/problems come up, I just gain more respect/admiration for Frank Thomas. He's the one guy that has been on the other side of this story for 16 years now. He might be the only guy I am still sure is clean...him and Adam Dunn. Only the giant ex football players are safe apparently.

I'm not sure why anybody would be surprised, any name I find out is a star and ISN'T cheating would shock me. They are almost ALL cheating assclowns, everybody in baseball and the NFL (although they are avoiding the spotlight....for now). I hope this isn't true, but they are my boys over at deadspin and I would be shocked if this isn't accurate. And as for those who underrate this story, I assume you said Bonds was innocent when Greg Anderson's issues came up. If this story is true, Pujols is an HGH freak, end of story.

Blaming Garland is silly. I know he's the whipping boy, but this loss goes 100 percent on Mackowiak and Cora, they have alone caused a 6 run swing towards Detroit.
