  1. The capacity is over 40,000 I believe, however attendance is tickets sold, so you'll never see a paid attendance that high, except in the playoffs (I believe all the home games last October had paid attendances a hair over 40,000). Looking at the numbers for the regular season this year and last, the most paid attendance you'll see in our park is somewhere in the 39,300 to 39,400 range.
  2. These Tigers=slightly better 2003 Royals. They are a cute little story, but if we do what we are capable of (which is win around 99 games like we did last year), they won't be able to keep up and finish ahead of us.
  3. It'd be a much worse punishment if he were still at Oklahoma, he was probably overjoyed to get to Indiana where they will ignore your sins. Must be cool to be a privileged program.
  4. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 25, 2006 -> 02:58 PM) I think it was pain-related problems with Maroth. Elbow? If you give up 6 earned runs before getting an out against the Royals, you damn well better be hurt badly.
  5. Well it's good to see Mike Maroth remembered that he f***ing sucks, hopefully Robertson follows suit ASAP.
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 25, 2006 -> 12:54 PM) That's untradeable. Untouchable is designated by the current team. Haha you have been "Kalapse'd", as they say apparently....which is cool since I'm not near the greatness in sarcasm Kalapse is. Ramirez is indeed untradeable of course, nobody wants an injury prone 10.5 million dollar making 3rd baseman who all of a sudden can't hit for average and has no speed and erratic fielding tendencies.
  7. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 25, 2006 -> 12:51 PM) I doubt that. Why would he write about it, and mention returning in "a few weeks", if he were really being s***canned? Interesting timing for him to all of a sudden be on a hiatus. If it means he's just not answering questions for a few weeks and is still doing the beat in general, then ok, but you don't just go on "hiatus" a week after it comes out that you got your ass ripped to shreds by the high powers in the Ivory Tower for being too negative. We'll see though.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 25, 2006 -> 09:32 AM) I dont see why Ramirez would be untouchable? Well he has a big salary of 10.5 million per, is injury prone, an erratic fielder, can't run, and is hitting .240 or so right now. If that isn't untouchable I don't know what is .
  9. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Methinks this "hiatus" will end up being permanent. It's a same, another victim of the Cubbie Blue media hype machine, honesty doesn't pay after all. Steve Stone feels your pain Mr. Sullivan.
  10. Wow that's insane, and explains a lot. Hopefully they figure this out so Billy and his family and all the others involved can have some piece. And yeah I'm glad I didn't hang the roids tag either, that must be torture having something that painful AND having the doctors confused and helpless.
  11. I don't give a damn about the velocity, Jesus Christ himself couldn't have hit the s*** he was throwing up there last night. Bobby is fine as long as he has CONTROL, that is what matters for him.
  12. I agree with the fan etiquette thoughts in here, however that's turned into a terrible problem at ALL parks, so I don't want to pick on our fans. And great to see Steff and some other people still care about this subject, I went to a game earlier this year and my 4 year old little brother already knows about this subject, somebody was standing in front of us during the game and he said to me "he's not supposed to be standing right now, you should go beat him up". Good times.
  13. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 25, 2006 -> 08:14 AM) I'll be the first to say that I prefer a full house over 15K. Was just voicing my displeasure with a large portion of the crowd's behavior. Yeah, the wave should have rules similar to a save, such as you can't pull it out unless your up by AT LEAST 5 at the time. I hate it in general, but if the game is a b**** slapping I can live with it. However up 2 or 1, it shouldn't be going on.
  14. Let me also point out that a crowd of 15 k that is going wild circa 2002 CAN be better than a sellout crowd doing the wave during key spots and such, so I agree with the premise.......however more people=more payroll, and I'll sacrifice a few bandwagoners in the park if it gives us more money to spend, ESPECIALLY with Kenny as GM since I know in that case the money will be spent wisely.
  15. If your b****ing about the crowds, that's fine. If you want 15 k at games and 15 million dollars less payroll, that's your problem, but I'll take the bigger crowds and more important, the bigger payroll.
  16. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 24, 2006 -> 10:43 PM) I'm tellin' you, man. The game has changed. This is exactly what David Stern and his posse wanted. All these new sissy rules that cater to offense while crippling the defense. You have to go back to the 80's to find a team that even got to the finals playing the Suns' style. Yeah, the game went from too much defense to too much offense. The boys on high that run the show need to find a balance here, it's pretty ridiculous.
  17. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 24, 2006 -> 05:54 PM) Bulls are around 19 million under the cap. We don't need to throw in players to match salaries. Hmm I didn't think of it that way, good point. Although if we made a trade and took on Garnett's deal without dumping much, that kills our chances to get a FA like Harrington or Pryzbilla or Mohammed. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 24, 2006 -> 11:10 PM) Personally I think the Sonics are pretty loaded at the SG and SF, they've got Damien Wilkins as well. Chris Wilcox came in and had a big impact, but he could leave as a FA. A guy like Cedric Simmons could work for them. I'm pretty sure it'll be Brewer or Redick for us. I still have a pipedream that Roy will somehow fall to us, but that's extremely unlikely. On Rondo, I've heard his jumpshot ain't very good and he could go anywhere from 15 to the 2nd round. The Celts are in an interesting position. They've got Pierce and Wally, so they don't really need a swingman. But if they draft Williams, what would happen with West, in terms of one would have to go to the bench. Maybe they should trade the pick for some veteran help, otherwise they may lose Pierce if they don't get better soon. All true, good post. As for Rondo, that guy couldn't hit a b**** from 6 inches away if he were Rick James. If taken in the first round, he'd be the worst guard in terms of shooting ability I've ever seen taken in the 1st round. However he does run the point well, is a great athlete, gets a lot of rebounds, and can defend, which are all pluses. But I still don't like 6'2 guards that have NO shot.
  18. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 24, 2006 -> 11:07 PM) Yep, I thought that we were going to lose after Mack straight up botched that s*** tonight. Normally, I'm not one to second-guess the manager, but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, get Mackowiak the f*** outta there. If we're talking position players, you absolutely can not afford to have a defensive liability at C, SS, or CF. Well that's a ball Dye still should have caught, and even if not Mack did have a big 2 out RBI single against a guy that Anderson would have had no shot against in Haren, so he did make up for the "lost run", which we pitched over anyways, as that inning probably ends 3-2 even if that ball is caught (runner at 3rd scores IMO). In the long run, we need BA out there with his great defense and to let his game at the plate develop, but Mack is raking and we're winning these games so in the short term I don't mind this, keyword being SHORT TERM. I don't want it like this all year.
  19. I don't know how the Cubs would have a firesale. Maddux has lost 4 in a row, is 40, and probably will retire after this year (although it is the last of his contract), Pierre is also in a contract year but his RBI total is equal to pitcher Ricky Nolasco and he has an OBP lower than Brian Anderson, nobody would take Jacque Jones, they'd never trade Wood, Zambrano, Prior (although he has no value anyways right now), Lee, Barrett, Ramirez, Murton, or Cedeno. The only guy I could see them trading and getting anything for is Walker, and it would be fitting since he's one of the very few guys they have with patience at the dish. They also have bullpen arms, but they won't trade Eyre, Howry, or Dempster, and even if they wanted to they all have overpaid deals as well. Cubs are in a REALLY, REALLY bad spot right now in terms of on the field, and in a lot of ways.
  20. I am going to continue to stick with the fact that the Suns aren't very good, unless they win it all at which point I would decide that the entire NBA sucks and the Suns took advantage of it. This team can't continue to do this, I refuse to believe it.
  21. So the guy that is like 20-3 in game threads is thanking the posters? Well done sir, I would also like to thank the great posters who do well to hide my mediocrity, thanks guys.
  22. It was great to see Mark attack inside for once, and yes hopefully Jon was watching. Usually when it comes to pitchers, attack in and stay in, pitch away and go away. Gotta be able to go inside to set up the stuff away and get guys reaching.
  23. Well if the velocity AND the uber calves are gone, I'd say maybe he's off the juice, however it could just be that's he's an injury prone pussy and his velocity is dying as a result. QUOTE(G&T @ May 24, 2006 -> 10:24 PM) Who said this on the radio? The same guy from Baseball Prospectus that broke the story this spring that Prior was injured and the Cubs were hiding it.
  24. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060524/wl_nm/...ramilitaries_dc Err wait, wrong Uribe? Oh....
  25. Well done all around, other than that Dye f*** up, which didn't even cost us a run (guy would have tagged and scored if he catches it IMO). Way to go Bobby, way to go Mark, way to go 2 out clutch hitting. How sweep it is, let's enjoy the day off and then beat the hell outta those Canadian bastards. And I'm glad they got that game done, the storms were imminent and I hate rain delays.
