Well first of all, let's point out that barring the infamous "setback", Count is only going to miss 2 turns in the rotation. Second, Haeger obviously starts tomorrow with B-Mac ready to do middle relief if needed, and what we do with the 2nd start depends on how Haeger does tomorrow as well as if Contreras can be back for the Cubs series when he's eligible to come off the DL or not.

I'd also like to point out that in 112 official at bats, Crede has grounded into ONE double play, which is almost unfathomable considering his contact ratio, how much the guys in front of him are getting on base, and how slow said guys in front of him are.
-
QUOTE(effectivelywild @ May 10, 2006 -> 01:41 AM) Not to rain on the parade, but you guys know how little a guy's SO percentage correlates to his runs created, right? That the drawback in him "not generating a productive out" is easily counterbalanced by the fact that when he strikes out he can't hit into a double play, yes? Over the course of a season, a player's strikeout numbers mean very little except that they drive down his OBP. Regardless, for a player with identical batting average, on-base-percentage, and slugging percentage---the statistics show that there's no real difference. And while I'll agree that Crede is hitting really well this year, it has more to do with his lack of weak outs than the number of his strikeouts. I'm really not going to waste my time with all that Billy Beane Tom Foolery, but let me say this: there is a much better chance of Crede getting on base when he makes contact then their is when he strikes out, and I think the sharp raise in Crede's average and sharp drop in strikeouts is no coincidence. Also, correct me if i'm wrong, but Crede's walk ratio thusfar isn't much different than it ever has been, so his on base percentage isn't really affected, other than the fact it's obviously way up due to his BA being so high.

Welp the Mavericks finally wisened up and put Devin Harris in the starting 5 and moved Terry to the 2 guard, and what do ya know....Harris scores 20 and they blow the Spurs out of their own effin gym. Mavs are going to win this series people, the Spurs should just feel blessed to not be down 0-2 right now. -
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 9, 2006 -> 11:54 PM) I posted this nugget not too long ago: Welp the key is that you had the balls to admit it right now, but you could also be right about him hitting .280. Good news is that even if he does, he will finish with 40/100 and a .430 OBP.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 10, 2006 -> 12:36 AM) Gotta be careful with that... I know the Tribe just lost two in a row to the Royals, but they have a whole week of playing the Royals and Pirates at home coming up. Which is exactly why it's great news we have 7 on them at the moment.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 9, 2006 -> 10:49 AM) Babe Ruth hit more homeruns in a season than most of the teams did in his ERA. Neither Aaron now Bonds will ever be half the player Ruth was. To be honest, I find the fact that Ruth could have been a hall of fame pitcher if he had wanted to be just as if not more impressive than him hitting more homers than most teams every year. But I agree with your premise.

I remember a line from an Adam Sandler movie where he yells "SOMEBODY KILL ME PLEASE!! III WANT TO DIE!!!". If you could make that into a full 4 minute or so song and show as many Cubs moments of infamy as possible during that time, it would be perfect.

When I went to Yankee Stadium, a stayed at a hotel in New Jersey very close to the GW bridge. From that area, it isn't very fall at all to Yankee Stadium and you save a lot of money as opposed to staying in Manhattan. I believe Fort Lee, New Jersey is where my hotel was, and it was in a very cool area. Great time, also the area around Yankee Stadium isn't nearly as bad as it used to be. It's not Bridgeport or anything in terms of how nice it is, but it's a decent area and you can find a spot near the stadium to even hang out at before the game if you wish (which is what I did).

Charlie Haeger to likely start Wednesday

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 9, 2006 -> 08:51 AM) Excellent post Mike. This site will never grow for the better, if people are going to treat people a certain way just by their post count. Every one of the posters that was bashing wcw was a newbie with a handful of posts at one time too. Yesterday was certainly disappointing, and hopefully we don't see any other cases like this. No one is better than anyone here, and some people certainly thought otherwise yesterday. Amen on all counts. If your an idiot with a couple thousand posts, I'd much rather you leave than a very smart person who just found the site a week ago and is starting to build up a good rep as a solid poster. Posts counts be damned, in fact I've always wondered why sites like this have post counts at all, but that's a different argument for a different time. And your right, nobody here is better than anybody else other than Gage. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2006 -> 08:13 AM) I actually had to stop and think a little bit before I answered this. I'll admit my first thought was to come on here and just tear this whole thing apart in a blazing flame job. Then the more I thought about it, if you didn't get the original post, you probably wouldn't get this either, but I also wanted to explain something that other people should understand. You used the term moral compass like a term of derision. Something you completely missed is that the admins/mods of a good website are exactly that. Especially in a situtation where you expect more out of an individual poster, good leadership steps to the plate and does something to rectify the situation. Now I now my answer should have been a little bit less bitter, and I will freely admit that. But the point of the post stands, the attacks were questionable at best. I have seen people trying to justify them by the kids attitude and the way he posed his question etc, but on the flip side of things, the guy has eight posts, and obviously has no idea of Soxtalk etiquette, so what happens? Instead of someone explaining to him what he should be doing, they rip the kid apart. Then to top it off, when all of the people who were yelling so loudly about everything were proven completely and 100% wrong, only one person had the moxie to apologize. Now many of the people who were chirping the loudest, I don't expect anything from, as they have demonstrated nothing that would indicate they would have the decency to look themselves in the mirror and admit a mistake in the first place, so why would they in this situation, right? But others I was extremely disappointed in. Some people you just expect more from. As a matter of a fact, you would expect them to be a sort of moral compass. Someone to help out new people, and be man enough to admit when they are wrong, not to further add to the embarassment by acting like they are above common decency. Another big problem here is that I know of people personally through emails and PMs who refuse to post any new info because of threads exactly like this. Egotisitcal people is a rush to look better than someone else overreact to a situation, and immediately attack the messenger. This has led to more than a few of our "inside" sources either quitting the site, or just not posting anything edgy anymore. The funny thing is that the losers in these situations are all of the same people who are causing this problem in the first place. If you don't believe me take a look around at the people who aren't posting here anymore, and the disappearence of minor league posters and "breaking" news from certian posters anymore, then add it all up yourself. One definate problem here, is this whole clique mentality that has developed here lately, sucks. Its like you have to be a part of the "group" or you are no one. If your opinion doesn't conform, you are driven off as somekind of outcast or idiot, which has become very reminisent of a situation that many of our posters fled other places on the internet. Many days and threads turn out like a bad teen movie with all of the little princesses fighting over who is the prom queen. Well girls, I am here to tell you that you are all snobs. Call me the moral compass, and damn it I am proud of that. I want Soxtalk to be a FREE and OPEN exchange of information and ideas. I want Soxtalk to be a place where someone new can come and fit in, just as well as someone who has been here since day one. I don't want a situation where just because someone has a lot of posts, they can label and deride someone just because. Part of my role as an administrator at Soxtalk is to make a situation here where exactly the ideal situations for member are occuring, and sometimes that means being a moral compass. When I see a situation where I can educate someone on being a better poster, I'll will take that chance, because in the long run, it is for the good of the site as a whole. I don't regret calling out people at all for this. People needed to hear how they were acting, and if they chose to ignore the feedback they are getting, from MANY more people than just me, well that is up to them. *Stands and applauds* Bravo, very well said. I'm with you especially on that somebody with 20 posts can be WAY smarter than some spammer with several thousand *looks around innocently*. Plus, I sit back and watch when a thread like this starts, since if somebody has the balls to post something like this and it isn't immediately closed, it usually has some legs to it. -

I miss Flash Gordon....even if he's old, overpaid, and could suffer a career ending injury at any moment. Dude just gets people out.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 9, 2006 -> 12:05 AM) Griff, like many people my age, is one of the first reasons I got interested in baseball. Griffey Thomas Alex Fernandez (We had the same first name) Same deal here. I'm a bit older than you I think, but I got into baseball because of Griff, Big Frank, Bo, and the pitching punch of McDowell, Alvarez, and Fernandez.

Maddux found a mixture of bad opponents, wind blowing in days, some luck, some smarts, and some offensive help to get off to that start. I think the Maddux of 2004 and 2005 is back to say now, but he's still a decent pitcher. As for the Cubs, don't you think they'd LOVE to have John Koronka back. He's only 25 years old, a lefty, and is now 4-1 with a 3.65 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 25 to 12 K/BB ratio in 44.1 IP for the freaking Rangers. Nice job letting him go Flubs, you really got a king's ransom for him in Freddie Bynum, who is out of options and probably will be released outright because of how horrendously bad he is.

Holy poop stain, what an incredible turn of events there. The crowd reaction shots after the goal to tie it were freaking priceless, lots of people in the aisles leaving going insane. -
Paul Byrd f***ing blows, but it's not a surprise. He's gotta love that Indians offense though, he came into tonight with the convenience store ERA of 7.11, yet also with a 4-2 record.

Former Cub John Koronka with ANOTHER quality start tonight, this time victimizing the Twins in Arlington. Man the Cubs gotta feel good about letting him go for nothing right about now.

Charlie Haeger to likely start Wednesday

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 8, 2006 -> 08:33 PM) If Jose, doesn't go on the DL, who would go down so Haeger could make the extra start? It wouldn't be that big of a deal to send Logan down. One question, when we send Logan down, how long does he have to be down before we can recall him? Good question on both counts, which is why I think we will either do the DL thing and have him miss 2 starts, or have him start as scheduled Wednesday. I doubt there is an in between, since if he misses a start, we might as well just put him on the DL and use our luxury of a team to give him the extra start worth of time of rest. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 8, 2006 -> 08:20 PM) Basically its up to the Sox. This is nothing serious...rather its pretty much stiffness of the lower back. Sox have been doing treatments (first I know of was yesterday but it could have happened before that). If they want to be careful, they sit Jose for 2 starts (with the best record in baseball we have that luxury); If Jose really is feeling good, he'll be make the scheduled start. I think part of this is wanting to be over cautious with Count (and get him some rest in the process) and another part of it is they want to give Haeger a couple shots with the big club and see how he does, since again we have that luxury right now. I'm not questioning your site or article (which are both good), just saying it's funny how much in a period of several hours a story can twist and turn in this age of the media. -

Haha so after all this, it's not even a sure thing that Haegar will get the call, or that Count will go on the DL, or that Count will even miss a start. And worse case senario is he goes on the DL and misses 2 starts. Wonderful, I love the internet and talk radio, just a BIT too over reactive. -

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 8, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) Yep, me too. I feel like such a stroke whenever I'm watching that piece of s*** network, especially during football season. Hey, isn't it time to get Crede in that signature? What about Pierzynski, who is arguably Top 3 in the MLB out of the C slot, all intangible aspects of his game considered? not enough room for all of them, plus I don't want to change the sig around and jinx anything (although maybe I should take Count out of there now...)
