2006 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ May 1, 2006 -> 10:00 PM) Arroyo just tossed a CG gem for the Reds again. I haven't seen him pitch this season. What do you guys think about him? A league full of guys that haven't seen you + mixing your pitches better=Bronson Arroyo at the moment.

Booing Jim Thome
In almost all cases, fans will boo ex superstars who went to another team when they return. Such is life, and the sooner people learn to deal with it the better.

Reggie Evans Violates Chris Kaman
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 1, 2006 -> 07:31 PM) He was a Hawkeye. Yeah the Reggie Evans/Pierre Pierce jokes could be made, but I'm not touching that one.

YESSSSSSSSs Red Sox v. Yankees
Well the games mean more this year since only one of them (at most) is going to make the playoffs. I'm just glad I don't watch ESPN, they should realize how many viewers this s*** costs them. There are a lot of people in this country that couldn't give a s*** less about these 2 teams.

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 1, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) With this great start, we are exactly 1.5 games ahead of 2nd place Detroit. Who must be feeling great right now since they are playing way over their heads and still are a game and a half out.

Nash reportedly repeats as MVP
QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 1, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) Kobe haters, bow down, that's all I can say. Nash is still the MVP, if the refs had called fouls at the end of regulation and OT like they should have, the Suns win the game.

Official NHL Playoffs Thread
QUOTE(The Critic @ May 1, 2006 -> 12:51 AM) Being a Wings fan, I obviously am not rooting for an Oilers win, but as I mentioned during game 1 of this series, the Oilers seem so much faster than the Red Wings. I know it's because half the Wings' roster is over 50, but I won't be surprised at all if Edmonton knocks them out. Haha, yeah Edmonton has got to win game 6 at home though, no way they win at "The Joe" in game 7. I just am supposed to hate the Wings since i'm a Hawks fan, even though you guys are obviously in a different class than us. Btw, these hockey playoffs have been great. Regardless of the score, the games are just so much more exciting with a lot more scoring chances. I watched game 5 of Flames/Ducks from Calgary on DVR in the morning yesterday after watching the Sox Saturday night.....very enjoyable to watch.

2006 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 1, 2006 -> 08:11 AM) Amazing that the two teams that meet in the ALCS last year had there highlights shown AFTER the Boston-TB game and NY-Jays games were shown to get everyone ready for the two teams that got beat up in the ALDS.... Yep, and thing I don't understand is this: Normally ESPN has some logic in that they cater to the areas with the most fans/people that watch the show(s). But they seem to forget that not only was Angels/Sox the big series this weekend, but umm the Sox and Angels play in the #2 and #3 metro areas (population wise) in the country.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 1, 2006 -> 12:58 AM) Anyone else pumped about the hour special tomorrow about the Red Sox-Yanks series???????????? I can't f***in wait. I'd rather drink my own urine and be eaten alive by stray cats than watch that abomination. I'm sure Peter Gammons will be there in his season ticket seats though, rooting for his beloved Red Cubbies.

17-7
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 1, 2006 -> 01:08 AM) The hitting so far is as good as it will ever be. The pitching outside of four games has been extremely f***ing good... to a point that i highly doubt they will be able to pitch better. I find it unlikely that the sox have a better month this season. Hmm....the bullpen hasn't been all that great, as good as a few hitters have been, a few others have been subpar, and I disagree about the starters, who can overall (here's looking at you Judy and Freddy) pitch better IMO. Unless of course, this was simply a bait post.....

God bless Jeff Brantley
QUOTE(fathom @ May 1, 2006 -> 01:05 AM) Ask Freddy He wouldn't know, it would take a lot more than weed to pick Papelbon over Phat Albert.

17-7
It's not so much boredom as it is that last year, we were playing so well and winning close games and exceeding low expectations and we were trying to rid the whole 1917 thing and all that. Now this year, we aren't even playing at full potential and we are the defending champs with high expectations and (until this weekend) a lot of our wins weren't all that close. Just a different mindset to be honest, which isn't a bad thing.
-
God bless Jeff Brantley
To be honest, I'd take the DEVIL RAYS STARTER today (Kazmir) over Papelbon if you asked me to pick 1 for my team.
-
17-7
Well the scariest part about this is to be honest is, unlike last April, I don't think we are clicking and playing our best ball yet. However with the encouraging signs from Pods, Politte, Thornton, Cotts, and even Anderson....we're getting close.
-
God bless Jeff Brantley
He says if he could have ANY PLAYER IN THE GAME.......he'd take Jonathan Papelbon. That could be the dumbest thing he's ever said, and that's saying something.

Go Oilers, not only would it be great to see the #8 seed win, but it would knock out the Red Wings in the process.

Swisher's Boys
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 11:10 PM) Apparently the article is yellow journalism if KW is a saint and an honest man. I mean Frank's a clubhouse cancer and a horrible teammate, remember? All our posts were tongue-in-cheek, and then you came in to just s*** on Frank and bring up Thome. None of that was really necessary. Frank and Thome are not peanut-butter and jelly (lame, I know). They both don't need to be brought up everytime the other is mentioned. Hmm ok. Fair enough, and I do agree Frank got a raw deal from the media and KW when he left.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 11:47 PM) Better question IMO, how are the Rocks 15-10??? All 25 of their games so far have been against NL West teams, the Phillies, and the Marlins. Pretty much they have been the tallest midgets, and they have also got some nice bullpen work from Mesa and Fuentes, as well as hot hitting from Hawpe and Atkins.

Recruiting Thread
QUOTE(Fotop @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) It's only crazy because when ND was THE place to be, they recruited whomever they pleased. So to get back to that point in the modern era of college football is a bit more difficult. I cant really cite specific classes, but at the height of the program, ND pretty much got everyone. Therefore, I'm just saying that's some big expectations to fill. Well it's not really fair to compare to be honest. The only programs now that get anybody they want are Duke in basketball and USC in football, so for ND to be doing what they are right now despite not a whole ton of recent success (other than last year of course) is amazing.
-
Swisher's Boys
Well if it's not an issue we let Frank go, why must a few of the Frank fans come into a thread such as this and make snide remarks about KW and how Frank is a clubhouse cancer? And then after I wonder why such things need to be said, all of a sudden I'm starting an argument? Ok.....whatever you guys say.

Swisher's Boys
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) Wanna point me out where someone was comparing Frank to JT? Nobody was, but everybody seems to think we made a mistake letting Frank go, which there is no evidence to prove is fact, or anywhere close to it.
-
Swisher's Boys
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 10:50 PM) Read the post above. I think we're all fine with Thome, but what's the reasoning for s***ting on Frank at every opportunity? What's the need? I'm not s***ting on him at all, he's BY FAR the best player in the history of our franchise and while we had him, I was one of the big time Frank defenders. But at the same time, people talk like we made a huge mistake letting him go, which I really don't understand at all.

Swisher's Boys
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 10:44 PM) And this needed to be posted because...? Is it possible to have any Frank Thomas threads around here without some knucklehead trying to ruin them? Is it possible for the Frank fans to realize he was let go because we have a DH that's a lot better than Frank, who is a huge injury risk and as it is right now, isn't hitting despite being on the field? Did Frank get a raw deal from Kenny on the way out? To be honest, probably. But at the same time it was the right move to let him go in terms of the team this year, and we are a better team without him and with Thome.
