  1. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 10:44 PM) And this needed to be posted because...? Is it possible to have any Frank Thomas threads around here without some knucklehead trying to ruin them? Is it possible for the Frank fans to realize he was let go because we have a DH that's a lot better than Frank, who is a huge injury risk and as it is right now, isn't hitting despite being on the field? Did Frank get a raw deal from Kenny on the way out? To be honest, probably. But at the same time it was the right move to let him go in terms of the team this year, and we are a better team without him and with Thome.
  2. QUOTE(Fotop @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 10:01 PM) Benn would be nice as well, he was on campus for the spring game along with the other recruits. Looks like a monster, he'd be a great add. Like I said before, ND's new found ability to recruit skill position players is a huge plus because in the past, it's been a tough sell. Obviously, Weis has a lot to do with this; high powered offense, NFL pedigree, gives him lots of leverage on the recruiting trail. Now if the defensive players start to fall into the fold, THAT would be amazing. We could use a little help on that side of the ball. Regardless, this has been quite the start to '07 recruiting. As I've been saying, and call me crazy but I believe it, I think this turns out to be one of the best recruiting classes in ND history. I don't know how saying that makes you crazy. It's all quite true, and this will be one of the great classes in ND history. BUT they do need to recruit a bit better on defense still.
  3. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 09:56 PM) Who else would be in on Lee? The Cardinals won't have the money with most of their pitchers free agents. The Cubs should be interested but probably will come up short on the dollars. I just kind of wonder why the Brewers are going to let him walk. He might not be worth a 5 year contract but he's very productive and really does help take the pressure off the kids in the lineup. Could he become a Met? Hmm. Between that new stadium, the attendance, and the fact they may make the playoffs again and DESPERATELY need an outfiedler....I still think Lee to St. Louis is a very real possibilty. Not sure where he ends up, but I think the Jock Jones contract sillyness and how long it is might cost the Cubs El Caballo, and that would be so Cubs.
  4. Indians better figure out their bullpen, or else they are going to fall WAY behind yet again. Detroit is a cute little story, but I'm not all that worried about them yet. If we keep playing as well as we can and should, the Tigers will either fall behind or all of a sudden it might turn out that the AL Central gets 2 playoff teams anyways.
  5. Anybody now can feel free to point out Garland is our #5 starter BY FAR as it is and was pitching in the only day game (when the ball carries a lot better) in this series.
  6. The Angel fans putting on an AMAZING charge to try and catch Cub and Red Sox fans as "biggest retards in sports".
  7. It's too bad we have Thome at DH, he really sucks. Bring back Frank!!! We need him!!! He's ON FIRE this year!!
  8. Kenny would have never heard the end of how bad a trade this was had we not won it all last year.....and ended up even better this year......but I'm glad it worked out for both sides. Oh and where are the Cubs going to play him (lol)? Pie and/or Pierre is the future in CF, they are stuck with Jock for 2 years after this, and Lord knows how much they love Matt Murton. Plus, the Tribune company showed this offseason they are going on the cheap on the REALLY expensive guys, and Lee is going to be just that.
  9. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 05:55 PM) Nash was not even involved in the last play of regulation Ok it wasn't the final play, but Nash is the guy that got the ball taken from him by Smush which led to Kobe scoring to send it to OT. I forgot all about the real last play actually. If Nash isn't sloppy at the end of regulation, the game never goes to OT.
  10. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 05:50 PM) What did Nash do? allow the turnover, mass scramble, and basket by Kobe to send it to OT to occur. Then in OT decided to wait until 2 guys were all over him and about to steal the ball to try and call timeout. Well done "MVP", enjoy the offseason. (And mind you, I don't even like the Lakers).
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 02:17 PM) What the f***? Since when did the Reds become the best team in the MLB??? Welp they are now tied with the Cardinals for 2nd behind us. Oh, and how bout them Cubbies the last 2 days!! 25 to 2.
  12. Hmm the real MVP's team appears ready to pull the upset. Phoenix got what they deserved btw, that was not a foul at the end of regulation, it was Nash being an idiot. The jump ball was also questionable, but the Suns deciding not to guard Kobe on the last shot wasn't very smart either, he had way too much room.
  13. Hey Angels, f*** YOU!! Do we still "cheat", or will you just admit that your sorry ass excuse for a baseball team can't beat us? SWEEP!!! 17-7, JUST LIKE LAST YEAR!!
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 11:06 AM) You know another thing I've been wondering about? The ban on amphetimines ("greenies"). A lot of people speculated that one of the big groups that might have popped those things would have been the pitchers, and relief pitchers in particular, since they wind up exerting a lot more during each game than the position players, who only have to react quickly. I've been wondering for a while if some of the power surge could come from pitchers losign a little bit of that upper that they had. Especially with some of the relievers we've seen struggling (Izzy, Lidge, etc.) Ahh well done!! That's a point I completely forgot to think about. You know you'd think the greenies being gone would affect the hitters negatively a lot more since they play all 9 innings almost every day, but the pitchers are going balls out every pitch, so they'd be the ones that need the greenies. So no greenies AND no steroids could really be messing with pitchers velocity and recovery time (especially pen guys), quite a combo indeed.
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 09:58 AM) That's no reason to like a guy, as a matter of fact that's pretty damn stupid. I do not like Josh Beckett, never have, never will. period. It's all good that you hate Beckett, but if you don't think it would have been a nightmare if the Cubs had went to (and maybe won) a World Series before us, you are kidding yourself. All we would have heard last year was "hey we won first in 2003!!" from the stupid ass Cubs fans without Beckett. LeeAnn Tweeden? If that is who you are refering to, they broke up a while ago. That Marlins team a couple years ago had Tweeden (Beckett), Misty May (Matt Treanor), and Alyssa Milano (Carl Pavano) as girlfriends....wow.
  16. I honestly think that their relationship in the booth and their cohesiveness has been A LOT better since the beginning of 2004. I used to really dislike DJ, but he's improved a lot and continues to do so, and he and Hawk do a very entertaining broadcast now.
  17. Ok as we all know by now, the current home run per game ratio is 2nd highest in the history of baseball (just behind 2000). But the question I ask is, why? Why is it that home runs are out of control again all of a sudden with the new tough steroid policy? I'd like to hear everybodies thoughts, but here are mine. 1. Juiced Baseball. I think the baseball is juiced and it's very obvious. Now how much of an effect this is having can be debated, but there have been more a few home runs that looked like the ball was on a "magic carpet" as it carried out as DJ would say. Also, by doing this and seeing home run rates go to levels seen in 2000 and 2001, baseball could be thinking they can subconsiously make people discount how much steroids helped the home runs leave the park. 2. Underestimation of how many pitchers used steroids. I think as much as steroids helped the batters, they may have helped pitchers just as much, ESPECIALLY power pitchers who work out of the pen. Has anybody noticed how many bullpens and relief pitchers have struggled early on? I think A LOT of these guys were on the juice (here's looking at you Juan Rincon and Rafael Betancourt), and without the extra boost on the fastball, that 96 heater is all of a sudden 91 or 92 and a lot more hittable. 3. No HGH testing. As much as we'd like to think the game is clean, there is still no test for HGH and there are still plenty of people using it *cough Bonds and Giambi /cough*. Also, HGH at least based on everything I am aware of and have read (which is a lot) is something that would help the hitters much more than it would pitchers, another advantage. Other theories I have heard are the new parks helping the hitters (but remember, the only new park this year is Busch), steroids effects are overblown (which I'm sure some of the Bonds defenders and such will say, even if it's wrong), and that weather is warmer than normal this month (very vague and hard to prove in terms of the whole league). What do you think?
  18. In terms of just a person?? Schilling is probably a bigger dick than Bonds, but Bonds just trumps everybody since he was a future HOF, 500/500 player....AND THEN decided to be a cheating ass when he didn't need to.
  19. Well I'd rather see Cleveland lose, and Beckett is the only reason we made the World Series before the Cubs, and maybe the reason we won it first. So I can't say much on this subject.
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 06:30 PM) Ben Broussard just hit a grand slam against Josh Beckett in the top of the first on the first damn pitch he saw. As the ball carried on its way to the stands right I actually smiled, I f***ing hate Josh Beckett. Umm you know without him the Cubs would have made the World Series before we did and possibly won it before we did, correct?
  21. Suspend him for the rest of this season, make him do anger management, and review things next February. You can't do that, period. Lifetime is too much, but he should for sure be done playing baseball in 2006.
  22. f*** the Heat. Cheap shot assclowns who don't defend. We might have a series all of a sudden.
  23. It's officially on, b****. I thought Heat in 4 or 5, but between this blowout, having game 4 at home with a chance to make it 2-2, Shaq looking bad, and the f***ing pussies from the Heat taking these cheap shots, IT IS ON!
  24. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 08:56 AM) How quickly people forget that Oz rested his starters a lot in 2005 too, and guess what? It worked! Yes it worked, but the fact it lost us 4 or 5 series last year and will do it again this year doesn't change, and it still pisses me off right now, even if it's for the best in the long run .
  25. Anybody have a link to a video of what happened? I need to see it for myself before I can decide how long I think he should be suspended.
