McCarthy showed me that he's on the way to becoming a special pitcher, but he also showed me that he's got some more work to do down at AAA before that's going to happen. By the end of the season, maybe he'll be ready, but I'm glad he's going back to AAA to further his development. He seems to have a penchant for serving up the longball, something that he can hopefully correct before we see him at the ML level again. Also, did anyone else notice that he hardly ever threw his changeup? I didn't see him throw it at all, and when he pitched in spring training, that seemed to be a very good pitch for him.

Is there any link where you can hear this after it's over? If not, could anyone give them that suggestion?

The Sox gave up one of their top prospects last year in Jeremy Reed in exchange for a guy who could have been a rental player in Freddy Garcia, but the Sox made sure he wasn't one by almost immediately signing him to a 3 year extension, because they wanted to make sure they didn't lose one of their best prospects for nothing (not to mention add a solid starter to the pitching staff for 3 more years). Any team who mortgages their future for one season in that fashion will pay for it in the long run, especially if the deal doesn't pay off for the one season.

First, let me just say that the question posed at the beginning of the thread is invalid, as NO player can guarantee a team a World Series. Now, my answer to the question that you're trying to ask here is I would NOT even consider trading McCarthy for a rental player. If the Sox were to get a young, franchise-type player with little to no injury history that they'd sign to a long term deal in return, then I'd probably do it.

Count needs to have a good start if the Sox are going to win this game. He needs to pitch at least 1...2...3...4...5...6...7 innings and give up 1...2 runs or less. That is unless the offense gets going.

Well this is good news for the Sox. I hope Vladdy isn't too seriously affected and he comes back and plays well later on this season, but I'm glad he's not going to be in there against our guys.

If you don't think the Sox are getting enough airtime now, just wait until they make their playoff run. ESPN will give them plenty of airtime as their analysts try to jump on the Sox bandwagon and talk about how they knew how good this team was all along.
