  1. Even dumping 80% of Greinke? Collins isn't exactly a lottery ticket. What do you think it would take?
  2. You're correct. In that case, never mind.
  3. They acquired Kelly about 5 minutes after I posted that, plus Collins is more often seen as a guy who will end up on the short end of a C platoon while playing a lot of his games at 1B, which was recently vacated for them. Ray has 3 years of control according to baseball reference, I wouldn't be interested otherwise. He's also coming off a down year and would be coming with Greinke.
  4. White Sox receive: SP Zack Greinke SP Robbie Ray $20 million Diamondbacks receive: C Zack Collins Thoughts? Too much? Too little?
  5. If you get a 1 starter for elite closer money, that's a steal. You would have to be pretty sure about that, though.
  6. I'd target Wong as a 4th OF/super sub/replacement for Engel.
  7. I think Harper to the Cubs is all but a lock now.
  8. While I'd love to get Alec Bohm, that isn't happening.
  9. I just want Herrera. If the Sox take on Santana, what would they need to give up to get him?
  10. Since we're discussing Santana, how realistic was my idea? As a reminder, it was Odubel Herrera and Carlos Santana for Jose Abreu and Yolmer Sanchez.
  11. They're both good for 4-6 WAR per healthy season. The difference is Harper will be in the 4-5 end of that range while Machado will be in the 5-6+ end of that range.
  12. The going rate for 1 WAR is $9 million. Manny Machado's average season over the last 4 seasons has been worth 5.4 WAR. Should similar results continue, Machado would have to exceed $48.6 million AAV to be a bad deal. Any lower contract would have surplus value.
  13. It illustrates very clearly that all of his value is in the bat. That's higher risk than someone who is more diverse in their value. The fact that he's a lefty slugger leaving the Nationals doesn't help either.
  14. Which is why you sign the more consistent 26 year old whose value isn't completely tied up in his bat. That would be Machado.
  15. That sounds like an entirely Yankees move. Solve 1B, get a good SP short term, take most of the contract, and pay peanuts (in talent sent in trade) to get 2 quality, productive players. Also secretly hoping they'll do it to quash any Machado to Yankees talk.
  16. All the reasons you state here are the reasons I want to sign Machado to a frontloaded 10 year deal that he's unlikely to opt out of before year 6 and almost assuredly will opt out of before year 8.
  17. My goal is for him to opt out in year 6 or 7. That said, I agree that you don't need to go that high on the numbers, but I was working with the number I got. Maybe something like: 45-45-40-/-55-50-40-/-40-/-25-20-15 Would be more palatable? That's 10/$375, which would still work out as the highest AAV in history (I think) while also reasonably assuring that your FA of choice (mine would be Machado) won't opt out after year 3, and will after year 7.
  18. Split evenly between the teams, it's about $24 million per year per team.
  19. Which is why you structure the deal to make it stupid for the player to opt out before year 6, even if they have the option prior to that.
