  1. Literally the exact thing you described happened. He went out fore the next inning, started at 80 pitches, gave up a single on pitch 83 and was pulled. Right call?
  2. So you think it was right to take him out when they did against Boston?
  3. Watch them take Covey out again on 80ish pitches. He might have a CG in him if Rick will just let him stay in.
  4. Must feel good getting one right after how often and extremely you've been wrong about Abreu, huh?
  5. Dylan Covey: the reason everyone needs to chill out about young players and realize that development isn't linear and the results don't matter this year anyway.
  6. With how much time be missed he's bound to be much more fresh than your average college player, so they might start him as soon as he signs.
  7. Moncada would be on pace for 20 fWAR if Ron started talking badly about him.
  8. If he's traded, it's not likely to be before the ASG.
  9. No it wouldn't. I think most here would've taken a ~4 fWAR season as a result for Moncada prior to the season, and that would put him on that pace.
  10. If each is a game of roulette, the draft is the penny bet table while free agency is the high roller table, except that the payout for winning at each table is similar.
  11. I'm only comparing size and Sophomore season production in this case. Rutschman's 2018 compares well to Posey's 2007. Obviously if the White Sox draft him, I'll want him to be the next Posey, but I'm not even suggesting that as his upside at this point.
  12. He should. Could easily take Tomshaw's rotation spot with Hansen sliding into Adams's.
  13. Rutschman as a Sophomore is looking a lot like Buster Posey as a Sophomore. Similar build, power numbers, etc. I doubt he has the monster Junior season of Buster Posey, but crazier things have happened.
  14. The BABIP and strand rate were meant to show that some regression would've been expected, while the walk and K rates play to your point that he just doesn't have it this year.
  15. His BABIP was .189 and his stand rate was 92% last year. He's much worse in both categories with a walk rate that has more than doubled and a K rate that has almost halved. Based on those numbers, it's not mind boggling at all.
  16. Anyone know the peak of this for the Astros and Cubs before they started getting good? Also, when do Futures Game teams get released?
  17. But he's just an average hitter, right Ron? @Hot FiRe
  18. Everything in the gamethread from last night suggested he looked downright good for the first few innings before it all unraveled. Several comments about sitting 93-94 with command and that pitch working well, as well as having a much crisper curveball. I didn't watch the game last night, but from those who did, it didn't seem like his stuff was the problem, at least not early.
  19. I'm personally a big fan of Adley Rutschman and hope the Sox are in a position to draft him next year if he continues to look as good as he does now.
  20. I hear "unfucking pitching mechanics" is part of Don Cooper's job description. I also hear he's pretty good at his job.
  21. The whole reason Washington traded him is they screwed up his mechanics.
  22. For now. That could change next year, there are two very highly regarded catchers in the 2019 draft class in Adley Rutschman and Shea Langeliers.
  23. That's just because he wants to JUST WIN, BABY! AND it would totally be possible if this cheapskate ownership group would just STOP BEING SO CHEAP and spend $100 million or so every offseason signing the right free agents, clairvoyantly picking which free agents are "the right free agents", of course, since most of free agency is a crapshoot statistically speaking.
