  1. I'm about 3 yrs too young to remember Rudy Law...in the winning year i see he was maybe average as a leadoff guy (i should say besides stealing bases). If you remember him, briefly describe what he was like, perhaps chart him with regards to other past Sox leadoff guys. Pods statistically was not off the charts in '05, this i know. obviously he got things going at opportune times and will always be remembered as such. Leads up to the question: can our leadoff hitter --even if just average to slightly below--be at least as good as the ones we had in winning years?
  2. This one Cardinals fan told me St Louis has bigger sports fans than Chicago b/c the Ozzie Smith restaurant thrives whereas Jordan's restaurant comparatively didnt last long. Ha. Supply & demand much?
  3. cr/ap still makes me laugh also, this thread title makes it sound like jc/bc both are done for the year already
  4. So after this year which major contracts come off the books?
  5. Konerko seems like a really stand-up guy Still doesnt make me rue the day that we locked him up for all those years. But a great guy nonetheless.
  6. well he's very old for a baseball player, especially one that stayed off the wild juice
  7. He played the most games in his career since 2003 Wants to go two more years but also said he doesnt know how much longer he'll wanna play
  8. Re-sign PJ Brown for a 1M 1 year, then package him with Orlando Cabrera for K.G.
  9. Jose looks motivated. Last year's run mustve really got him fired up.
  10. Is his wife from here originally? Or St Louis area? That 1-yr deal he mentions, i'm sure he'd want it with STL.

  12. Nix will be gone, but Wise is the only guy last year who had good PH stats i believe. I think he stays on.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 14, 2009 -> 11:46 PM) This is the year KW finds out which of our prospects can play. Owens, BA, Fields, Getz, Clayton, Lillebridge, etc. I am kind of looking forward to it. It's great, as long as the answer to the first line isnt "none"
  14. QUOTE (tommy @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 11:15 PM) EDIT: Thanks for clearing it up. I really want Orlando Hudson, at leadoff 2B, Brian Anderson CF, 9th. Agreed. I'm fine with BA playing if it's in this scenario. Makes our corner outfielders less of a detriment.
  15. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 10:19 PM) The last time Brian Anderson had a bad spring training was 2004. i meant it more like, what they do at the plate - it's their usual bad. Career .221/.277 BRIAN LOVAHHHS
  16. Well i suppose Lillibridge in CF is possible. OK well lets still answer the question about Alexei, so yeah, lets make it so -- say Betemit -- takes an IF role out of the blue.
  17. First nightmare situation: All the CFs are their usual bad in spring training. The two people who really stand out are Lillibridge and Getz. Would the organization really consider a humongous about face and put Alexei in CF? We'd have our 1 and 2 hitters at ss and 2b. It'd be quite a turn around since they already promised AR his favorite position and just signed his buddy Viciedo to a bloated contract based on his own surprising rookie year. Would suck to now slip ss out from under him. Would they even consider it?
  18. The Boras grudge has never been so great that they cant get little things done. I believe Crede avoided arb one year at least
  19. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 06:58 PM) He did have the homer in game 1 against TB as well. But overall you're right, he's a career minor leaguer. Owens>>>>Wise Pods was a career minor leaguer. It's not a death sentence at age 30, there are guys who just figure it out late. Not saying he is one, but with his first good statistical year as an older player, he at least has the earmarks of being that. Owens is not so much younger and has been unable to string together more than a month of consistent MLB play. Wise has at least done something recently. Lillibridge I would play out because of his ceiling, but not Owens.
  20. It's funny to me how everyone slams Wise as a player who didnt do it consistently but got a couple lucky big hits late in the year. Cant slam someone for a lack of consistency if they werent giving consistent playing time all year long. On that note, he's one of the only players on the team who has shown an ability to grab a bat and PH. So platoon him if you have nothing else proven already. It's happened before where a guy learns how to finally hit at 30. Pods in fact. If we have no real leadoff hitter, I'm curious to see what kind of year Wise can turn in. Owens and Lillibridge would have to be given opportunities with a great ST, but if they dont do that...Wise is the last guy who actually did something with his offense recently.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 09:48 PM) s***, I am emotionally attached to Dye. But I'm even more emotionally attached to the franchise. If moving Dye can help make this team better, so be it. This is how i feel. If we as an organization begin holding onto lovable franchise stars past their due time to go, we become the 90s Cubs with Dunston, Grace etc With Dye he can obviously still hit, but when you consider what he's projected to be in this phase of his career, what the park is like for him, what he's asked to do, and what the team needs..........it's time.
  22. for the sox games at wrigley i would have to wait til feb 20, right?
  23. I read all the fan comments and started feeling bad for this Ben guy. He made huge leaps, but even in his article he slots the Quentin part as his own speculation. He heard a rumor about a central guy going to M's...wrongly speculated it was Quentin instead of Delmon or someone like that. Obviously he doesnt know enough about Carlos but the fans tear him eight new ones, whoa.
  24. QUOTE (3E8 @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 11:18 PM) Hello logic, I didn't hear you come in Abreu doesnt want to play for the Reds though. Quentin to Ms for that package - ha
