  1. 1) Neal Cotts , the once hated.
  2. without his contributions during the year, winning us a few games.... that last series with Cleveland couldve been quite a bit more pressure-filled. thanks Frank.
  3. too bad we're pullin hair and s***... they were totally unhateable
  4. first thing out of my man's mouth was a shout out to Chevy... i was hoping he'd say it was a team award all the same.... he definitely deserves this thing.
  5. i guess another reason i'm inside is because i live near too much ugly blue and red
  6. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 11:53 AM) If Paul could hit over .300 with a kick-ass OBP and display some actual range on defense, I might consider a 5 year/65 million dollar deal as reasonable. As it is now, he ain't even worth 10 million per. I know that someone will be stupid enough to give him 12 million per, and it better not be the Sox. #1 so you save $3 mil per year or more... but you screw up team chemistry, get people mad, lose a leader. Konerko may have more value to us than other teams, in a way. Usually when a champ in any sport uses the next offseason to make a 'smart' deal, it derails them for the next year. your points are on target, but even so we'll be asking to become post-Pedro Boston. #2 Who do you replace him with? Not much out there this year. #3 another thing to think about... and i know no one wants to turn the Sox into the social club going on up north... but lets face it. when people buy Sox (like they are this year)... that means more money for free agents, and keeping your own. Keeping Paulie keeps the fans happy, keep someone everyone can (thinks they can) relate to. Losing him means we become that White Flag organization again.... and if we don't get off to a good start next year, we'll be just as ignored as ever by June. If that happens, I bet you payroll comes back down to earth. #4 aside from maybe a reliever or DH... what would be saving this money for, anyway? i'm not seeing too many holes.
  7. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 11:09 AM) Let's go back to the beginning. This is one of the worse pieces of s*** you've ever read because he discusses this being a Cub's town? Have the read this thread where yesterday soxtalkers basically discuss the same thing? Are you disagreeing that in fact it is a Sox town? Shall I pull up the threads here that talk about zero celebrating on the north side? You don't think it's a story? Should every columnist write about the same thing? Jay is writing about the same things that hard core Sox fans are discussing. Reaction from the city is always a story. Whether it's over turning cabs on Division Street after a Bulls Championship, or zero celebrating, it's a story. I think we all look silly when we complain about a columnist writing the same things we're talking about. i dont particularly like Mariotti at all, but these are some good points (and i'm not saying you do). the article picks up on some interesting things that are going on in town right now. obviously generalizing about Sox fans as neanderthals is too much... but if under the 'humor' he means that Sox fans tend to have the self-victimization thing going on... then it's not far from the truth. he's a pud. but he's right that most Cub fans...those who really care about baseball.... are either rooting against the Sox... or with them in a not-so-passionate way. the social-club Cub fans (which make up most of their revenue) are all fully jumping on the bandwagon... since we're the hot thing now. and of course, we're a fresh, new reason to drink.
  8. two talented teams, obviously, but more scared of the Cards. i'm just speaking in likelihoods here... but the Cards can kill you two ways... with the bats and with solid pitching. it's true that the 'stros have more shutdown-type starters.... but i dont see us going back to the zero offense part of this year. half of our run production has been coming with executing on bunt/sacrifice... i'd see us still being able to do that, even agains tthe best pitchers. good enough for a few runs here or there, which is maybe all our staff would need against their lineup. i want the opponent that lets us play to our strengths...the pitching.
  9. yet you just know he wanted to trade those youngsters. i think if the asking price had been anywhere near sane, he wouldve parted with some prospects this year. he loves to win each year. as fans we have to appreciate that. what fun is it to wait around for prospects forever? think about how much time you have spent thinking about/drooling over prospects that never did a thing at the major league level. it's scary, i want all that time back
  10. is 40 points higher than Uribe's? Juan has the power, but i wouldnt mind seeing Blum get some time at SS. someone who can get a walk.... that would actually help us get closer to being the small-ball team we're purported to be
  11. .... absolutely wouldve been complaining if the opposite had happened.... if a trade had gone down, ppl would be saying how we gave up too much for Baez, etc sellers were asking for a lot this year... it's not like we were the only team trying to pry away Baez (or starters) to those displeased ppl out there... at least be happy we still have a farm system ... one we can trade away next year if we have to, when the market might be a little more fruitful. and that's another thing: the guys we have are better than a lot of whats available anyway. why throw away your young players for that?
  12. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) How did he upgrade the team? Will this guy even see much of any playing time? I assume we will see him play some 1B now that Gload went back down, but geeze did we need him? Ozuna can play the IF, and Gload can play 1B. Gload is probably better then this Blum dude. I don't understand this at all. I do understand the Harris demotion- but i don't understand the Gload demotion. Oh well- i guess too many teams were buyers not sellers this year. And from what i heard- the sellers were all asking for waayyy to much in return. i like Gload too. he'll be back. but right now we really need to get this bullpen some rest. you want all these guys overworked and deadarmed by the playoffs? right now we have no true long reliever on this team. vizcaino does it but he has no history of doing it. we're going to the playoffs. it doesnt matter how bad Adkins will be. what matters is that we get the pen some rest. also: comparing Gload and Blum is pointless. Sox arent saying Blum is BETTER than Gload.... they're doing this because they have no legit use for Gload. and they REALLY have a need/use for Blum. Pablo struggles at 3b... the Blum option will really help us with PH and strategizing in late innings.... pinch hitter who can play all the infield positions? this is a good move. he has had at least some consistency as far as getting on base, and thats a little more than i can say for Mr Uribe during some stretches.
  13. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) Did they mention for whom? sounds like it's for minor leaguers, because they're saying it's being done just to open the spot for Duque.
  14. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) No, there is no importance at all. If we posted all of the links that said a trade is happening, there would be no end to it. If we reported every radio station that said a trade is happenign, there would be no end to it. agreed, but 670 is mentioning this in the updates -- not just the usual sportstalk rumor mill. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) Remember when Boston reported that the A-Rod deal was done and the only thing that was holding it up is the players association deciding if they could re-work A-Rods deal? yes. and my thread in that case would be called "A-Rod deal is done and the only thing holding up is the players association deciding if they can re-work ARods deal." and it would be accurate, + very necessary. just like this one.
  15. would a thread reading "670 reports shingo is gone" be more palatable?
  16. so there is no importance to the fact that the Score says this trade is happening? lets face it: if i wasnt here entertaining myself with a faux-smarmy attitude, you would have said, 'thanks for the info' .... and you would have been informed, instead of pure evil.
  17. Balta: work on detecting typed sarcasm better. truth time: i dont care about having the inaugural thread. what i will argue for though is the legitimacy of my post. the Score 670 reported that the trade is happening. Balta, your reasoning does not exactly hold up. are you saying we cant post that a move is happening until the exact moment it's official? one, we have no exact way of knowing when that is. two, we post on these things when they are reported. Shingo-to-Zona has been reported. if you want more accuracy, how bout you let me know when the i's are dotted, etc. case in point: should one never post about any of these agreed-upon NBA contracts until July 22, when FA season officially begins?
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:36 AM) So if I post a thread saying the White Sox have won the world series, would I get credit in October as the inaugural victory thread? finally someone is with me.
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) I hope you are joking for your sake. you are hideous!
  20. the key, however: will my thread be credited as the inaugural Shingo is gone thread? this is what Matters.
  21. thread title changed? tyrant. when i'm proved right, i'll demand 8 apologies.
  22. score 670 reports that it is happening. so i thought i would let you all know. i suppose we've seen that sort of thing before, when it falls thru. but i'm into taking huge posting risks, Dude.
