So let's talk about the real change this year...
Princess Dye replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Frazier's impact is so huge. Even with this slump factored in -- say it never even goes away, for argument's sake -- you can carry his current WAR out to 600 PAs and it comes out to 2.25......a big improvement over the guys we had manning things last year -
Being a big time Twitter NBA/Bulls guy....These last few weeks have been one heck of an Unfollow fest on the Bulls people i have who are Cubs supporters. I am throwing dat Unfollow around left and right lately

Miguel Gonzalez getting called up, Danks skipped
Princess Dye replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's nice the Sox are addressing this. Even if MG isnt the answer, at least they are not content. The DH thing too.............you get the sense they are gonna act on that, but are picking the right circumstances (my own personal prediction on that-- Garcia and Sands get a few weeks to battle it out, then maybe a cheap scrap heap guy gets introduced.........and finally if nothing else has materialized they will pursue Morneau when he's ready to play and will spend $). -
This is not a stat that tells us much but i thought it interesting to point out-- we are tied for #30 with Seattle in Total # of Players Used so far this year More from baseball reference: their strength of schedule rating says all AL Central teams have faced (in sum) below-average opponents except Cleveland. KC's schedule has been the easiest.

Some things to ponder regarding our offense: -We're #28 BABIP. Victims of bad luck? -We're actually #6 at not striking out. -Our propensity to walk is not great, but with a little improvement we're at 8% as a team and basically that'd be middle of the pack MLB. -#16 in overall contact at the plate, so ..not bad When you consider all that, I think it's actually possible that the one true let down is the team slugging. Also worth noting we dont hit line drives. Some of those positive aspects though show you that we're perhaps on track so far, just being part of the chaos you can expect in small sample sizes early in the season. My goal for this team is to keep the elite pitching and defense, and raise the offense to middle of the pack overall.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 07:54 PM) yeah, I totally missed that the first time around. i think someone here just totally speculated that -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 08:23 AM) Jerry Sands is a better DH option than Coats. agreed. people dont realize how hard it is to come in and not struggle. Coats is brand new and therefore is of intrigue, but Sands is a proven MiLB performer and even HE has struggled in MLB But Sands is practically new too since he hasnt had tons of MLB chances yet. Coats needs to do what Trayce did and make a plate patience turnaround in the minors that he can take with him up to the show. When Coats comes up and stays up, it will be for defense reasons. I get the sense Melky must be pretty darn opposed to DHing but if Trayce were still here, he'd absolutely have to be one. Coats is like a potential Trayce, basically

The offense is taking a beating this year, and we're seen as totally pitching reliant. Not true. Defense has been at a top 5/top 6 MLB-wide level. When that was a huge concern we went off about it daily, but now that it has turned it around...it seems taken for granted. Sox offense just needs to become league average and we'll be OK if the rest holds. -
You'd love to get this guy up and just have him improve the LF defense (Melky to DH) and hopefully have an unexpected Trayce-like debut Maybe a bridge to a morneau signing.

Cleveland outdrew us? Attendance down 13% so far

My midyear pie-in-the-sky scenario Quentin and Morneau DH platoon. If you need 12 pitchers you can still get by if you promote Leury Garcia, who has OF/IF capability. Saladino and him can backup all spots on the diamond besides catching.

In case anyone is curious, here are the AL fifth starters best to worst by FIP. Danks is not middle of the pack, but his FIP is not too different from the median guy (Sabathia) We dislike Danks but this is the reality of a fifth starter -- most are bad, period. -

Should the White Sox and Atlanta talk trade?
Princess Dye replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 09:57 AM) Not really. Jackson, Navarro and Avila are all very replaceable players. Danks is a sunk cost and the team will be better when he is gone (that hurts to say, Johnny was my guy for so many years). Latos has been great to this point - but its not like signing him to a deal over 1 year would have been a good move. Outside of that, I think everyone is controlled for at least two years, and pretty much every one of the above guys is replaceable for similar value to what they're getting paid. Jackson, Latos, Rollins, Danks, Navarro, Avila are a lot of people to have on 1 yr deals. Think about how much all that contributes on a daily basis. Next year b/c we have little farm talent, we have to do it all over again. Find multiyear star and/or fix the rest with short term deals. It is a process that will make you wish you had a farm. That is the larger point. -

Princess Dye replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 15, 2015 -> 07:57 PM) They should be doing what Atlanta is doing to be honest. I dont blame you for thinking that way. That haul they got for Shelby Miller is what you might expect was offered for frickin' Sale. So Atlanta is doing everything right (well forget Markakis and other past sins) You see what the Cubs are doing and no one can fault you for thinking that way. Full farm reload still has not happened here, and when you do that, not only can you 'top things off' with FA signings nicely afterward, but the FAs actually WANT to come to you because of that reloading already being in place. So it is a two-pronged benefit to do what ATL is doing. Are we good enough right now to get to the playoffs? Yes. So your way is not the only way but it is certainly viable. Right now we have a lot of talent on 1 yr deals which aint great. You cant get by that way every year. -

Freeman's contract and age match up perfectly. No team would want to get rid of that. Even a rebuilding team sees that as a guy who's going to be there as soon as a new core is in place. Dansby Swanson should be up in 11 to 18 months. They'll already be thinking about having some luck bounce their way and get into playoff games at that point (or shortly thereafter, 2018) -

We are about as talented as the 2012 White Sox. Which compared to the 2015 group would be a giant step forward in watchability. So, not to aim low, but I think that's where we're at. With a few lucky bounces that '12 group couldve seen postseason games. -
