The other side of rebuilding, for your consideration...
It's so bizarre to me that anyone would say "oh no but now we can't win" when we didn't win last year The division sucks. We can afford to lose some pieces and still have a few spots where we will have to depend on a surprise performance. We may not win in '12, but rebuild or not, we were going to need some magic to come our way. if '12 success ever had a chance of happening in the first place

2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion
I can't really look into this myself since I've begun drinking Tank 7s tonight..... but can we look at those Cuban stats for Cespedes and say Alexei's Cuban stats were against comparable competition? Is there some way of finding this out?

Carlos Quentin traded to Padres
The big question is can these guys be in OUR top ten prospects Maybe the larger question- is there anybody that can't

Carlos Quentin traded to Padres
It's crazy how people will take a rumor and offer it as proof in an argument. To say "the braves were interested" --even if true, means nothing. Says nothing. What if they were offering prospects of exactly this SD package's caliber?

Carlos Quentin traded to Padres
Quentin wasn't going to get a long term deal here, and teams know that. There are lots of guys like him on other teams, who have shown flashes and then shown inconistency. Teams are going to look at all those guys and try to get them for cheap. We have likely just been waiting it out for two years and finally are caving to save the $. Whether injury-related or not, he was not consistent enough to be in high demand.

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
Interestingly, not offering Buehrle a contract creates the side benefit of protecting his legacy here. It's a gift to him, in a sense, in that there's no zero chance he gets the Thome treatment in CLE (even though the chance of that happening was tiny to begin with)

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
Sox weren't able to extend an offer because there's a chance he could've accepted There's no reason to spend tons of $ on Mark right now. We dont need him, b/c this isn't going to be a year we go for the championship. I'd rather spend that $ in 2012, 2013.

Aaron Rowand Signs With Marlins
You guys are ready to instantly hand a starting spot to Lilli? Sample sizes aren't big enough. He should definitely be allowed to compete with Beckham for the 2b job, but he's handed nothing. Rowand fits as long they are willing to play Lilli at a few positions. And with a player like that, you get the most value out of him that way (unless he wants to prove even more offensively than he did last year....)

Aaron Rowand Signs With Marlins
I like this...but only for one reason -- leads me to believe that Lillibridge could be given a chance to get significant playing time in the IF

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) If Mark goes anywhere other than St. Louis or here, I'll feel mad betrayed. I really hope this is to gauge his market price, then come back to the Sox to match. Mark deserves to go to the place that offers him the most money. I really don't see how anyone could argue otherwise. He's done everything you can do for us. And I dont even put this into the equation, but some can also look at the fact that he already has given us a hometown discount. On top of everything.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
How bout this for a lineup vs RHP De Aza DeJesus Viciedo PK Dunn Alexei AJP Beckham Morel Then when relief LHP comes in late, you can put Rios in one of the top two slots to combat this and improve defense at the same time

How you get a 16k sq ft house in Scottsdale...
Lets get real. Most of the people getting those types of houses in Scottsdale are rich kids inheriting crap
-
Could Sox trade AJ?
All Flowers has to be is OK defensively. The great hitting potential he has shown in the minors would simply be a bonus. AJP's money owed is an albatross when one considers what a franchise with our budget issues could do with a few guys off the books. I wouldn't say this if AJ could do much else defensively besides block a pitch.

Get the crystal ball out. Can Flowers be a jr. Napoli perhaps?

Greg Walker next hitting coach in ATL
People need to understand that the White Sox routinely gave him low amounts of hitting talent to work with. Hitting coaches are not worthy of blame or praise. Surely not heaps of either, at least.

If the Sox are serious about rebuilding
The Sox will retool because they can't draw with a team of youngsters. Pairing Rios with Danks is never going to happen....because of the monetary savings you get from that is put towards ANOTHER bust player....KW is just going to look even dumber. For having given away Danks.

Big Hurt Beer Launch Party
It'd just be so awful though if everyone assembled ends up hating it. Right there in front of Frank Thomas

2011 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 06:11 PM) I don't know. Theo was a huge beneficiary of the steriod era. This would imply the other teams in the league didn't have these same benefits available to them. The GMs not getting steroidal players weren't being noble - they were mainly the ones that didn't have money. Epstein within a few years will give the Cubs roster some consistent direction, year in year out. It's hard not to be jealous when you have your own FO churning out teams that each year have a wildly different bent.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
He'd never DH himself, to the team's detriment

KW: Joe Cowley a Liar
The funniest thing to me is that the source of this mess - and no, we'll never know some of the things that have gone on - but at least publicly, if you go by what made OG/KW the most vocal and irate in the media...it really does seem to have been the most embarassingly petty stuff. 1) whose KID did or didn't get drafted in what slot 2) who's the one who did or didn't want Thome The only eye-opening thing about the Cooper interview today is this clearer glimpse of just how ridiculously chaotic the organization has been this year. Makes you wonder why a fan would bother expending so much energy on a group that does not have its s*** together. Ozzie- very flawed individual. But to put it all on him is silly when the things you hear about KW inspire something far from confidence going forward.
-
Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
if you vehemently hate Cowley on this then -if logically consistent- you support gun control laws. b/c Cowley is the weapon, Ozzie is the one firing the shots. though that leaves me nowhere since i hate all aspects/sides of the situation

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 01:19 PM) I thought Robin made that pretty clear on yesterday's call. Didn't hear the call. I'm surprised they're so open about this part of the whole thing. Not a huge deal on its own, but it'd be a big thing when part of the media battle you have to wage is how motivated to manage your new manager is going to be.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
Terry kind of led Robin into a comment that makes it sound like it was the White Sox idea to have him manage -- not Robin's.
