7/21- Sox at Rays, 12:10, NBCSC
I hate when catchers double up the change.

I was just gonna say that. It's all part of the process.

That kid's got a wild delivery. He looks like he's bringing it like a closer.

Midseason Top 30 at Baseball America
I think you move Rutherford up to AAA next year. He'll probably struggle in the first half again. Have him repeat AAA and look for a September call up in 21.

Bryce Harper and Machado?
The key to all of it is going to be Madrigal. Will he be good enough to justify moving Moncada off of 2nd. I doubt there's a GM in baseball who would trade Moncada for Machado. Harper's a big can of whatever.

Luis Robert
Eloy doesn't have the talent of Robert. He has a much longer swing and slower hands too. The reason it took Moncada longer to adjust is because he has such an advanced approach. I think Robert will be much more aggressive at the plate, but won't have the same strike zone mastery as Moncada. To use a White Sox comparison, Moncada is more Thomas and Robert is more Belle. I think Eloy is somewhere in the middle, but he's not nearly as physically gifted as the other two. Robert and Moncada are physical specimens with tools across the board. Regardless, Robert's timetable for adjustment has absolutely nothing to do with Moncada or Eloy or any other player that's played MLB.

You realize development isn't linear right?

Midseason Top 30 at Baseball America
I agree. Outside of the top 6, I think Rutherford is easily the most likely to stick on MLB team for years. Nothing really wows you, but he's good at pretty much everything. From the pitching side, I feel similarly about Pilkington. Again, nothing really wows you, but when I watch his videos and look at his make up, I see a guy that's going to have a nice career as a 4th/5th starter. There's a lot of value in that.

Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans
I mean, okay. I like Beane, but his influence outweighs his actual accomplishments. If we're talking about GM's that have built consistent winners, he shouldn't be included. That's all.

So, no? Exactly.

Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans
I've never really understood the entitlement of sports fans. The economy of sports isn't built on a barter system, it's built on entertainment. Either buy it or don't. It's like buying a ticket for a movie and asking for a refund if the movie sucks.

Yeah, but has Beane every actually built anything? How many rings? How many pennants?

I guess the "momentum" towards being competitive was just dumb luck?
Wouldn't the opposite be a 15 year run of injuries? That could be it.

Is Giolito an ace?
I think he's a 2, but I also think he comps pretty well with Scherzer. I'm undecided, but at this point if you asked if I wanted him to start game 7 of the world series, I'd say no. So in that regard, he's not an ace. Also, Buehrle wasn't an ace. Out of all our pitchers, I think Kopech is the ace because he has the heaviest fastball.

Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him
Good thing we have a year to figure it out.

Will Nick "The Little Magician" Madrigal be called up this year?
He doesn't. People are weird.

Any time you can get value from a reliever when you're a non-contender, you take it. We have months to replace Colome, either externally or internally. One of Burdi, Hansen, Fulmer or Hamilton could emerge. If not, you have the entire off season to find relievers.

Robert to Charlotte? Per his Instagram
Moncada's eye gives him the edge, but it's a 1a and 1b situation.

White Sox vs Cubs 1:10 PM Nova vs Hendricks

I'm fine with that zone if both pitchers get it.

I think it's Moncada, but Robert isn't far behind.

It's going to be interesting to see how he reacts to older pitchers with more control of their offspeed stuff. Can he lay off sliders that might not be as dynamic, but can be thrown for strikes more often? Regardless, there's gonna be some fastballs launched into next year.
