QUOTE (Scoots @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 08:50 PM) Gotta love those starts by our minor league studs though. Kopech 6 IP 12 K's!!! 2 Hits and 1 ER Lopez 5 IP 10 K's!!! 4 Hits and 2 ER Dunning 7 IP 6 K's 6 Hits 1 BB and 0 ER!!! All of their ERA's are in the mid-3s. Very exciting for the future rotation with the way these guys are pitching, especially considering the current monstrosity that is the 2017 rotation... what kopech is doing at his age in AA is extraordinary. I think he will be an offseason top 10 in all MLB prospect.

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 08:33 PM) I haven't heard much Benetti, but, man, is he dumb. Ross said he likes how quiet the Cubs catcher is behind the plate. Benetti asked if he meant quiet vocally or in his mannerisms. indeed.

I told myself I wouldn't get upset watching these games but I am. Just tired of all the losing. Maybe better to stop watching.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 07:42 PM) That's some serious framing there...f***. wasn't close according to pitch trax, easily a strike.

It def seems pitchers give Moncada a healthy amount of respect for a rookie.

Reinsdorf Needed Convincing to Trade with Cubs
Couple points: 1) This is coming from Sherman at the NY Post. It didn't bubble up from any of the local guys or Nightengale. To me this immediately puts a question mark on the report. Hahn's words only strengthen that argument. 2) It makes zero sense from a business operations standpoint to have a three day lag on a trade of this magnitude. If anything it seems like a routine "owner needs to approve" got turned into the usual JR gossip.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 09:23 PM) Good point, Flavum. Best to look at stock portfolios 2-4 times per year...depending on market conditions/current events. Have to trust your original decision-making process. I dunno you gotta try and know when to cut bait too. KW was pretty good at that.

7/25 Games
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 08:34 PM) OTOH, there's only so much you can do. Phegley had defensive question marks from the moment he was drafted. Flowers, however, after the AFL with the Braves, came over as a potential big-time hitter with lots of defensive question marks surrounding him. That they turned Flowers into a fine defensive catcher is promising. At a certain point you can only blame the coaches so much. Players play. I'm not really that high or worried about Collins. Anything he produces is a bonus. Catching is so thin at the MLB level and so few teams really have a stud 3-5 WAR catcher that a platoon surrounded by guys like Moncada, Eloy, Rutherford, Burger etc will work just fine.

Tim Anderson
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 07:43 PM) Lou Brock said it best - "Show me a guy who's afraid to look bad, and I'll show you a guy you can beat every time." well said, reminds me of the end of my playing days.

Tim Anderson
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 06:43 PM) I don't care if he chases first pitch, but at least have a plan and swing hard. He rarely hits anything with authority anymore Hopefully this is the lowest point of his career, today. His swings are just so half assed. It's one thing to not have a plan. It's another thing to go up there half swinging the bat. I hope Todd can convince him to just look fastball the rest of this season and to go up there and take a pitch most AB just to see it and then SWING LIKE YOU MEAN IT.

Can Rodon become a quality mlb starter?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 07:42 PM) Dude has some of the best stuff in baseball, of course he can be a quality starter. Obviously his stuff is nasty but until he learns first pitch strike he's going to have days like today where his ERA and xFIP diverge by 10 runs.
