  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 03:44 PM) Where is Cheat / Gene Honda? Could be wrong but thought he had some health issues. The guy that took over SSS I have never been a fan. He's pure vanilla.
  2. This place gets a little nuts at times but it's way, way better than any other area of White Sox fandom online. I won't say too much about SSS but every since Cheat left it's devolved into a meme factory with very little original analysis or insight. I rag on Rabbit a lot but it's the work he and the other more active posters here do that makes this place stand out.
  3. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 08:16 PM) Should probably take it as a sign to keep him when he's one of the few players on this garbage roster other teams are interested in. you are winning the Internet tonight.
  4. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 05:11 PM) Wait the Sox have a crowded OF? Who's crowding it? All the negative WAR bums? lol. touche.
  5. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 04:32 PM) Lawrie: 94 wRC+, .409 SLG, .148 ISO Avi: 83 wRC+, .365 SLG, .108 ISO The average AL RF also had a 107 wRC+, whereas the average AL 3B had a 99 wRC+. I wouldn't call that very similar. Lawrie was also worth almost 2 WAR more than Garcia, and that was a clear down year. The avi comp is one of the dumbest I've seen so far thanks for setting people straight. Besides the obvious differences in wRC+ not only between themselves but relative to average at their positions -- Avi has also never had a 3 WAR year (or even close. Lawrie has. He had a bad year. It happens. Sox are buying low that's smart.
  6. I seriously can't believe this is what they gave up for Lawrie. What a trade.
  7. Wow that's a helluva trade if that is who is going out. Two C+ prospects and Shuck for Lawrie, yes please.
  8. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 04:47 PM) I think we have upgraded our offense at the catcher position from what we had and I am excited about it. Maybe I am just excited for a new face at catcher and I don't have to watch Flowers miss a 92 MPH Fastball right down the middle on a 2-0 count ever again No Beckham to do the same either. Oh yea, it's a new era!
  9. Kudos, I like this platoon. The upside is pretty high IMO. Downside is that Avila is toast but in that scenario you hope Navarro can take over full time. Doesn't seem the ORG valued the pitch framing metric as much as some of our posters here. FWIW I have no idea who is right but it is one data point that at least the Sox perhaps don't consider it that important.
  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 11:25 AM) The "point" to selling low on him would be to prevent him from creating more losses for our team. So what they are contending now in 2016? They aren't contending for jack with or without Avi. He has more upside than Melky so if it's between Melky and Avi for the majority of the starts in the OF that's a no brainer. They have little to lose by trotting him out there and seeing what happens next April/May/June.
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 01:42 AM) I just don't think it's a matter of going to the minors and working on stuff -- I think he's toast because he can't see the ball well enough. At this point, there may be SOMEONE who wants to gamble SOMETHING on him, but by this time next year he'll just be a DFA candidate. I'd rather get a live arm and $2m off the books now. But I see where you're coming from. There is little point is selling this low on him. At this point you give him another 300 PA before July and see what happens. If he sucks, well s***. If he shows something, hell, that's good. He needs to hit 290/330/450 to have positive value. Maybe he can do it. I'd say maybe 40/100 odds.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 11:11 AM) I mean, probably when they finished in the bottom ten of the league 3 years in a row. I'm a bit drunk but yea, thanks for the lol. The Sox, bad talent at ID'ing and refining offensive talent? You don't say! Thanks for the levity we can use it. This team has been bad for awhile. The evidence is on the surface.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 08:00 PM) Was referring to Swisher not fitting into the clubhouse after the Sox paid a huge price for him, only to have to dump him a year later for a terrible package Well duh that was implied and I get it they are both headcases. I'm saying that Puig is arguably a better player in his first two years then Swisher has ever been in his much longer career. The upside is higher with Puig and the downside is what exactly? More s*** seasons? More getting little return on investment? Opportunity cost would be the big downside but hell who is he gonna block?
  14. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 06:37 PM) I heard Greg Amsinger on the radio today saying the same thing. Said he could see them trading Puig and signing Heyward. Correction: Actually, he was saying it about Greinke, and that he may not want to return if Puig was there. Greinke is such a b****. The way he beaned Q and then b****ed about it has always rubbed me the wrong way. Also he says a lot of dumbass s*** to the media about his team and team mates and the opposition and then falls back on the "I'm a misunderstood introvert" BS. No, you're just a dick dude.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 05:24 PM) Hell no to Puig. Last thing Sox can afford is giving up someone like Quintana for Swisher 2.0 Wouldn't be surprised to see Puig to the Indians for Salazar. FWIW Puig's first two years are better (by fWAR) then anything Swisher has ever done. 2015 Puig is troubling but I'm willing to take him on in the right move. Team needs to inject position player talent and high risk high reward moves are the type that need to be made. This isn't a team that will get anywhere playing it safe and making small upgrades that are likely to work but also likely to only add half a win here or there.. You need to make big moves that might pan out in order to go from 75ish wins to 85ish.
  16. Until the team gets a proven organizational strategy to develop young position players I'm not sure I really want them trading away assets for prospects in a rebuild scenario. Something is amiss in their development of position players. That said, blowing it up should be on the table, nobody should be untouchable when the team is this bad and this far away from contending.
  17. He pitches once every 5 days how many tickets can he really sell?
  18. And in hindsight that turned out to be a pretty s***ty decision. I'm not expecting Hahn to rip Shark a new asshole in his comments but I'd like a little more than just COA boilerplate. At least the org is speaking with one voice at the moment and you don't have KW in the news one day saying something and then Hahn the next saying something else.
  19. Good to see this is what passes for journalism at the Sun Times now. The headline and Lede aren't supported by anything in the article. I see one attributed quote about his market -- from Hahn. That's one opinion by a guy that has a very vested outcome in seeing such a "robust" market form for Shark. I mean, FFS, at least get the pro-forma puff piece quote from an "un named scout" that "sees a fixable flaw" and a guy "ready to bounce back at a buy low price". Jeez. Thanks Hahn but I'm pretty sure not having Marcus and Bassit will affect the team going forward and that Jeff's awful season will impact the team in 2016. Hahn is already mastering KW style "cover your ass" quotes.
  20. Holy f***. BEST NEWS EVER! Dude is likely to be a 1 WAR player next year. Chicago has plenty of middle infield options that will cost nothing that can put up 1 WAR. Time to see if Saladino or Sanchez can cut it there.
  21. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 11:34 PM) Ugh team has sucked so long and makes no real changes at the top so I don't see them flipping the script until they do.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 06:38 PM) All of the factors play into why they should replace Ventura: 1- As far as I know, he had no aspirations to manage before October, 2011. 2- They spit out a division in 2012. 3- They lost 99 games in 2013---and he got an extension. 4- They play sloppy baseball. Like it or not, that is a reflection on the manager. 5- They sucked again in 2014 6- The front office went out and made moves we perceived to be positive. They certainly had expectations themselves to win going into this season. 7- They sucked again in 2015 It doesn't matter if it was his fault or not. When a team sucks like they've sucked, you make a change. It was a joke he got hired in the first place. To keep going back to this group year after year is an insult to the fanbase. There has to be qualified candidates out there that they can bring in, and make a better decision for the team. Then you give that guy a 3-year deal which is pretty standard, and try something new. If that doesn't work, you go to the next guy. That's how it works. 5 years for Robin Ventura after these last three? That's a joke. Sticky this post to the top of the page.
  23. hahahahahahahahahahahaahahahah! Yes, fire the bench coach, that's the ticket!
  24. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 12:37 PM) Micah Johnson has 114 major league plate appearances. 114!! People on this board want to sell everything for prospects but freak out and write players off as soon as they struggle. Micah is awful defensively and I have my doubts that he'll be a White Sox long-term but good lord people. He had a wRc+ of 145 at Charlotte this year. He's a really good prospect still. he's hardly even a prospect. He'll be 25 in spring and he hasn't been able to stay healthy going on 2 years. When he did play, he was OK with the bat but historically awful at 2B. He's just "another guy" at this point much like Salidino, Sanchez, Conor, etc, etc, etc. Maybe if he had a solid instructional staff to guide him but a lot of sand has already passed through the hourglass on Micah.
  25. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 04:23 PM) Funny as I was responding to Balta who's whole post was on "hindsight." It's not like we were evaluating a move that happened in the past or anything. My points were A.) Phegley has no role on the team. B.) Bassit can't continue his pitching in the future. But hey, I haven't been around here in a while since I've been busy but to no surprise you come out to attack me right when I return. Did constantly attacking SS2K grow tired when I was gone? I am sure you had to direct your angst at him while I was gone. As it's been your whole time here, you just attack the "authority" here on trivial observations. Only thing is the leadership on this board is the most relaxed leadership you can find on a message board. I shouldn't guess about your personal life, but it just seems like you've really struggled with authority in your personal life that it's become pervasive in every facet of your life. No one's out to get you chitownsportsfan, you're safe here buddy. Nah, I don't care enough to write a paragraph like you. Using fWAR to justify the Shark trade is a joke. Unlike SS2K you actually make decent points on occasion but this was not one of them. SS2K is a professional Internet troll I try and ignore him now. I will poke fun at your baseball career however you seem to think your God's gift to baseball so let me know when you make a MLB roster I'll be sure to come here and write a treatise on how great you are!
