  1. Team is must watch right now. Very enjoyable. Leaving work a few minutes early to get home for first pitch. Mariners are doing well too here in Seattle (town is getting a bit excited) and it's another picture perfect 70 degree sunny day. As bad as spring as Chicago has had it's been that good here in the great PNW (as Hawk would say). Days are long, man. Sun's up at 5:30am and goes down at 8:30pm. We earn it being so damn far north. Some short ass days in the winter, goodness.
  2. In case anyone was wondering, Flowers has an OPS+ of 64 and is currently mired in a four game hitless streak. I really do believe he was part of the problem in the clubhouse and removing him was one of the first signs that BAU wasn't going to continue in 2016 on the South Side.
  3. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 9, 2016 -> 07:13 PM) Truth but I like the idea of seeing if Avila can heat up with the bat. Be a good problem to have. Maybe just run it 50/50 for a couple weeks and see what happens? "heating up" for Avila at this point in his career would probably be a month of 225/325/375. Dude's bat just looks toast. Injuries have really robbed him of any bat speed it seems. That said, he's still a good defensive catcher and with the way the Sox are playing right now they don't need much offense from catcher to keep winning. Just play solid D and go 1/4 with a walk most nights.
  4. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 9, 2016 -> 06:03 PM) Word! Get the Bacon n cheese whataburger, add jalapenos, and get her on texas toast. f***in delish Ha, Whataburger is alright but for my mouth give me the roadside torta stand every time.
  5. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ May 9, 2016 -> 04:25 PM) Its more what cant I do in other cities that I can do in Dallas, there is not a whole lot. Same applies to Houston. SA has a little more character. Austin is maybe my least favorite 1m+ city in the USA... god I hate Austin. I've hung out some in the Texas triangle. Houston is OK, the area around Rice was were we hung out it was a good vibe. Austin is an awesome city but I could see living there full time to be a bit much with all the "local flavor". I enjoyed the beaches around Galvanston quite a bit. Padre National Seashore is a nice place.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2016 -> 04:23 PM) My guess would be MiLB deal, with short time to an opt out. Say 30 days. Promised money around a couple of million, with a couple million more in incentives. Sounds about right. Personally I'd pass. Be better to invest the time and effort and money into the guys already here or potential trade targets.
  7. I bet he gets a minor league contract. Nobody is going to sign him to a guaranteed MLB deal without seeing him in front of live batters, are they? I mean, Danks could go and throw 41 decent pitches against air.
  8. QUOTE (Green Line @ May 9, 2016 -> 02:05 PM) As bad as some of his jokes are, I would still take it any time over the dead air and awkward silences that Hawk provides whenever anything bad happens. No doubt.
  9. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ May 9, 2016 -> 01:58 PM) Plus there are rumors that he is wanting more than he worth. Would assume $5M+. He's worth a cheap gamble but not much more than that. Wish Fulmer was closer than he was. I do have a feeling that whoever (hopefully Gonzalez) fills the 5th starter role will do well once they settle in & have a good outing. My biggest question with the off-day on Thursday, do you go with your top 3 guys this weekend or still have a 5th starter go Sunday? I'd skip the 5th spot whenever possible. Nobody has ran up any egregious workloads yet. If guys are starting to pile up innings in July it's a different story.
  10. I dunno if I'd bother with him. What's his upside in the AL? Not much IMO.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) Neither one of them would have signed here if they were forced to take an option year. The whole attraction was that they had immediate openings, and they could be on the market in a year. They both literally took less money to do so. Exactly. That and the promise of plenty of playing time.
  12. QUOTE (harkness @ May 9, 2016 -> 10:39 AM) The Twinland joke was pretty hilarious..... I liked him a lot better a couple weeks ago. Last game, at times, he was way too corny. I think he could be good... but he has to learn the balance. Not everything that pops into his head is joke worthy. I like Jason I think he brings a much needed positive vibe into the broadcast but ya sometimes he's a bit over the top. He's brought out the best in Stone and that is a big benefit.
  13. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ May 8, 2016 -> 10:31 PM) It's not a great contract but would definitely help us over the next few seasons....do y'all think we could get Joey Votto from Cincy? Given the Cubs success and youth, I can't believe Cincy sees themselves as competitive any time in the near future. Maybe they look to unload that contract now. It's a lot of loot but if we are WS contenders for the next 3-5 years, it's worth making the move. that would be a high upside high risk move imo. Votto isn't what he was, but he I think Adams as a starting point might pique their interest. I'd prolly do it if Cinci threw in some cash.
  14. tangent: remember when it was a "good idea" to trade Q? Ha.
  15. baserunning this year is excellent. RISP hitting not so much.
  16. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 8, 2016 -> 12:11 PM) I guess they're still the stat nerds' team of choice year after year! Pretty much. What's more shocking to me is how poorly the projections like the Royals.
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 7, 2016 -> 11:38 PM) Ballpark atmosphere was awesome. I was in attendance. Nice crowd. yea 28k I think was the announced. nice to see.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 7, 2016 -> 11:03 PM) Yeah...obviously at the time it was a one run game, but Sale has tended to wear down late in the year and I'm hoping this year is the Sox longest year yet (just like 2005!!!). Last two starts Sale has thrown some pitches, but prior to that he was a model of efficiency. Either way, I tip my cap. He was nasty after that 1st inning. 7-0 is awesome. yea, it's a long season. 7-2 on the box score makes it look obvious but at the time it was a close game and if he doesn't get the leadoff guy, it's a different story. That said, Sale is the man. Maybe he told RV to GTFO.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 7, 2016 -> 10:59 PM) Another big 7th inning. I didn't like Sale throwing so many pitches, but he was clearly cruising late. Another great win. sale made rv look smart tonight. In general, I don't really think that move was a good idea.
  20. They won. f*** the Twins. Everyone did well again...some s***ty hitting with RISP but ok 7-2 win can't complain too much. Sale is the man. We knew that. 63.4% playoff odds. Yea, it's early, but, believe.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2016 -> 09:51 PM) Frank Thomas-esque great minds!
  22. what a clinic Jose and Todd have put on the last two innings. Wow. That swing by Jose is just picture perfect oppo field Frank Thomas jam session soft liner RBI.
  23. was that a strike on pitch trax? Looked a bit off from CF cam but that cam is crooked.
  24. Eaton plays so close to the line.
  25. Jesus Lawrie, get the easy hop next time eh?
