QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 07:49 PM) I'm getting there. I don't see any hope under this ownership. Then if ownership ever changed they would probably keep the same people. Yea I couldn't root for another team as much as change my skin color. Silly example but the Sox are in my blood. I'm like that with all my teams. Who I picked by age 10 or so is it. It's a wierd hodgepodge but it works. UM sports, Sox, Bulls, Lions. Could never even consider rooting for anyone else. That said, my fandom certainly wanes when the teams suck. THat is just natural.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 07:22 PM) Agreed, there's a contingent of Sox fans that are always miserable and you wonder why they haven't gone to another team already if they hate the franchise so much. I'm not happy with the current state either but I don get the point of endlessly complaining. Yeah we're a bandwagon fanbase but so are most fanbases so meh. We're hardly unique there. What fanbase that hardly ever makes the playoffs and has 1 world title in 100 years isn't miserable? Ever visit a New York knicks board? Mariners? Come on, don't sell the fans s*** and call it gold. This franchise and this ownership group has not been good overall. 1 title in 100 years does not, and will not ever, negate that. Just on average you'd have expected 3 titles or more over a 100 years, and that's average.

huh, good thing they don't rank pitchers on "hits allowed", expecially when your defense is one of the most porous in the league. You guys really under rate Q. Sometimes I wonder if there isn't a little more to it than just he's not a sexy high K guy that throws 96. Sorry to imply like that but it does cross my mind.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) Sullivan still thinks he gets at least $80 million. There is probably no way he would tske it if he loved Coop, but if true, it would seem to cement it. Kaplan did say there was no interest from either side lengthening the relationship. That said, someone not liking their boss isn't so unusual. I would put the over under at 3 years 50 million at absolute most for Shark. He's not going to take a 6 year 80 million dollar deal, not with his ego and nobody is gonna give him 6 years 110 million.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 03:29 PM) It's embarrassing to see the White Sox run the bases. How does Vince Coleman still have a job?

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 11:20 AM) I strongly suggest reading Steve Rosenbloom's column on the Sox today in the Tribune. It is 100% right on the money. When the executive VP says publicly he can't figure out what's wrong with the team while the G.M. is saying publicly that everyone is open minded in what needs to be changed you've got a serious disconnect...to say nothing of the disconnect between the organization and the fan base. Really good reading. The reality of course is that as long as JR owns the franchise there will not be much substantial change certainly not bringing in skilled people from outside "the family." Which means more losing, more irrelevancy in their own market and more fan apathy. Also one of the other Sox writers for Chicago Now has an interesting column on why Kenny Williams needs to go at the Tribune web site. Mark I said the same thing yesterday.

Ah yes, that time of year on the Sox message boards: complaints, and the few die hards complaining about the complaints. That's the pattern!

What an awful idea it was to bring back Beckham. Pretty much guarantee this guy won't ever see another MLB contract. Now hitting a robust .199 on the year with a 543 OPS. I don't care if he's Brooks Robinson you can't carry that bat.

QUOTE (harkness @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 08:18 PM) Abreu cold lately... He really has to learn to not just give away at bats. A lot of talent and good concepts of hitting... but he also really is unsound mentally up there at times. I really think he struggles with the schedule. RV needs to give him more off days IMO.

wait, saladino is leading off?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 12:40 AM) He made a few mistakes like saying Alexei hit the home run, not Avi. Stoney made some point and Hawk first said loudly, "What??" Then after Stoney repeated it, Hawk said he never heard of that before. He was speaking very loudly tonight. When he said that about Stoney's point, it's almost as if Stone didn't know if Hawk was being mean or weird, so Stoney didn't say anything. I noticed that, too. I guess Beckham is a decent utility player. Sox have so many of those. Gillaspie was not one of them cause he is so bad defensively. But Beckham, Saladino, Sanchez, Flowers/Soto both are all part-time at best players. Same at DH as LaRoche should never step in the box against a lefty ever again. jesus, I'm glad I've checked out outside the box scores. What an embarrassment this franchise is. Hawk needs to retire.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 10:38 PM) 9th time this season the Sox lost a game when leading in the 7th inning or later. And the first "blown" game didn't happen until May 26th. The bullpen has been directly responsible for losing seven of those nine games. Nine games is a lot to me. Mark The bullpen is mediocre but the real problem is the putrid offense. You hand over a 1 or 2 run lead enough and you're gonna blow games. That's what Hawk always gets wrong. Suddenly, when you're up 6-2 instead of 3-2 your bullpen looks a helluva lot better.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 10:21 PM) Too many cooks in the kitchen IMO. agreed. Probably part of the reason they weren't able to get anything done at the deadline. Too many inputs, not enough incisiveness. KW's comments around the deadline about "running off 10 of 12 and getting back in it" coupled with what Hahn said today are completely contradictory IMO. One guy is talking about everyone and everything is on the table and the other guy things the 25 they got are likely to run off 10 of 12 or some s***.
-
I agree with LDF, it seems like there is a rift in the front office. KW and Hahn do not seem on the same page IMO. I really do not like that both KW and Hahn are mouthpieces. Speak with one voice.

Robertson Claimed by Yankees, pulled back by WS
chitownsportsfan replied to Dunt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 12:44 AM) Why wouldn't they dump Robertson when given the chance? They certainly don't need him at this stage of rebuilding and have other candidates to close by committee? Because it's very hard to get a better closer at the price. Robertson is the least of their problems. If they are actually good soon, he'll be an asset. He's had some tough BABIP luck and some control problems but for the most part he's been very good. Worst case they suck next year and they get more for him at the deadline. -

White Sox Futility Under Williams/Hahn/Ventura

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 06:19 PM) In a ballpark that's generally considered a hitters ballpark and in the AL where you don't have to face the pitcher, you can be one of the best pitching staffs in baseball and still meet that standard. While there are some issues with using it on its own, fWAR is a good double check to see if that fits. Here's where our staff has ranked in that stat in all of MLB over the past 7 seasons: 2015: 5th 2014: 23rd 2013: 16th 2012: 12th 2011: 2nd 2010: 1st 2009: 4th Yep, can't really use ERA at the Cell. Good post. Cooper and Pitching is not he problem. IT'S THE OFFENSE AND DEFENSE -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 06:16 PM) Says the poster who said Hahn's offseason was great before the season started. Well thank god for hindsight! Jeez, it's almost like someone, a national writer, well respected by both scouts and saber guys, someone like like Jonah Keri even said it was a great offseason and wrote 1k words on the Sox for Grantland... Wasn't just me friend. -

QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) let me play devil advocate...... then why should RV be blame. Because he does dumb s*** like not challenge in the bottom of the 9th and bats Salidino 2nd and runs out of pitchers at least once a year. I can't stand RV's tactics. His "teaching" and "leadership" are more amorphous (and harder to critique) but I see enough with just his piss poor tactics to move on. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:02 PM) 63-99 66-96 66-96 70-92 Gardy's last 4 years. Tell me, how many division titles does RV have? And Balta, I think they are mostly partially guaranteed on a case by case basis. There's no CBA to abide by. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 12:29 PM) By the reports I've seen his extension runs through the 2016 season although we don't know the dollar amount. I don't think they are guaranteed, are they? If they fire him he's done getting paid, not like DFAing a player.
