these are pros nobody is going to "give up". That said, bringing back Gordon was exactly like bringing in Vizquel, or hell, Hinrich on the Bulls. Just one of those moves JR makes you just scratch your head.

Sucks it's gone this way but this team is awful, the run differential tells the story. The games they win are mostly close, many of the losses are blowouts thanks to the offense. Clean house.

Optimism? At least one of these guys has a declinable option for '16: http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&sort=21,a Seriously, you have to try very hard to pull a negative WAR in SS and CF as the positional adjustment alone almost guarantees any semi competent fielder will finish in positive territory. Of course, Ramirez and Eaton haven't been competent at all either in the field or at the plate. The Cubs are looking to deal Castro. The Sox should be all over it. Trade from the pitching depth and get him. He's having an awful year, almost as bad as Alexei, but he's also 6 years younger and still fairly cheap.

I don't hate RV at all. In fact, if I met RV I would shake his hand vigorously and say "you were one of my heroes and my pops loved you too; way to work back from that horrific injury you had". That said, dude is in the .0001% of dads that can take 3 days off work for graduation and nobody gives a f***. Lot of working class dads out there that would love to do the same. You don't know jack s*** about anyone here bro. Presume what you're gonna presume, but don't get it twisted many of us raising a ruckus here are about as far from "meatball" as it gets. Go ahead with your one liners tho, they go over great with the meatball crowd. You ever seen your pops cry because he has to work and he can't be with you? I certainly have. RV should wake up every day thanking his creator he gets to take 3 days off for his daughter's graduation. I've seen the tears in my working class father's eye when he had to go away from his family. You want to tell me, and others, about what it means to be working class and sacrifice everthing and anything for your kids? Get real man.

Again, most fathers are not public faces of multi billion dollar operations. Here, go on one of your google hunts Southsider, what other managers have taken two, three day breaks during their tenure for graduations. Good luck, don't think you'll find many. Forget RV, he never even wanted the job in the first place I'm not going to cut him any slack. He's getting paid damn well he can take my abuse on a message board. EDIT: only thing I could find was Bud Black, who yea, didn't miss 3 days: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/print.jsp?ymd=2010...b&fext=.jsp

Let's be real, most working class fathers would kill for 3 days off in a row to attend their daughter's graduation halfway across the country. Robin could have easily taken a travel day, a day for his daughter, and been back after 2 days. That he took 3 says something about something IMO. I agree, be there for your daughter, but 3 days? I mean, come on. With great privilege comes great responsibility. You have one of 30 MLB managing jobs, how about you act like it? Of course, he has a lifetime job so he could probably take a week off and nobody would mind. Oh well, I can't stand his managing Parent will probably do a better job.

SouthSider2k you sure do try hard to wrap up KW in your loving embrace, I give you credit for that but KW's statements wouldn't stand up to any halfway decent cross examination. He "came around" to it back in 2012 but today his recount doesn't mention any "coming around" just how he knew at the moment. The guy likes to talk, that's my only argument. He talks to talk. The fact that he found it necessary to point out how he could win a fight, lmao. He should have just challenged Sale to a dick waving contest.

Avi somehow lost .2 fWAR last night. Sometimes I'm really not sure how the defensive metrics are working because was he expected to catch the ball in the 9th? That was a smart play keep the ball in front of you don't turn a single into a triple, even with a 2 run lead you just don't want to give away runs. -
Who cares about the stolen base or lack of last night. Geo needs to be starting 3-5 times a week. If Flowers continues to get 80% of the time at catcher I"m going to be pretty pissed. Geo is young enough yet where he might have a couple good years left. Don't trot him out there 6 days out of 7 as he is injury prone, but 4-5 days a week would be ideal.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 01:52 PM) Sale called him, not the other way around. I was using "call" liberally in order to illustrate the absurdity of claiming he knew at that moment that Sale was a stud, had off the charts makeup, what have you, etc. KW's account comes across as silly as Hawk's TWTW. So, it was at that moment that you knew he had #1 stuff? GMAFB. There's been plenty of hot heads in MLB that sucked ass. I just enjoy the hindsight bias of it and once again how KW inserts himself into the news. Whatever, the Sox are actually on an uptick, let KW have his 200 words in the USA Today.
-
KW certainly does love to hear himself talk: Too bad he didn't make that call to some of his other draft picks.

FWIW, over the past 2 seasons, his partial one last year and now this one, Avi's isoD is like .60 That's pretty good. He gets hit quite a bit and he takes just enough walks that combined with his high average (I think he'll always hit at least around 280, with some seasons up around 310) that's going to result in a OBP of around 350-380. Not bad. -
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 08:30 PM) I'm actually not terrifically happy with his performance so far, and I rate him extremely highly. His good ERA and FIP are more to do with a very unsustainable homer rate. His SIERA (probably the best avanced pitching metric) is 4.41. He's not throwing enough strikes (last performance was a lot better) and he needs the changeup. However, I have full confidence he will become an excellent starter at the MLB level. Yea but the stock right now is "buy". He's 22 and pitching in MLB, he was put in some really horse s*** spots early on. He's been lucky on HR rate no doubt but for the most part he's held his own and lately he's been turning it on. Also, the raw stuff is there. Those concerns about his fastball falling to 90-93 seem laughable at this point. I still can't believe in my lifetime the Sox drafted the #1 overall player in the draft by a huge margin and they somehow got him at #3. Thank god for the f***ing rules changes a couple years ago on bonuses.

I think Shuck has earned some more playing time as well. Here's a plan: DFA Boni (someone will claim him and maybe more than one, work out a trade pickup 500k whatever, he's not being used properly and he sucks anyways) Call up Micah Micah and Sanchez form a semi strict platoon and Sanchez is the primary backup at SS instead of Beckham. Shuck and Soto now start 2-3 times a week. ___________ This team really needs to squeeze every damn bit of WAR they can out of this pile of suck they have at 2B and C. Who cares about development right now make the damn 2nd wildcard. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 09:41 PM) Nice at bats by Avi I love his approach, not the best batter eye but his plate coverage is tremendous and he never gets pull happy. Eventually you want him to pull the ball more in the air but if he's a 300 hitter and the power only develops to 20 a year that's fine as well IMO. -

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) Nice catch by Avi. Don't understand why most folks here don't like his defense. He's been solid the last month or so. But before that he was bad. I will be happy if he's run neutral the rest of the year and maybe +5 or so next year. -

I'm not sure how RV came up with this lineup, but it's f***ing awful. Why would you give EAton the night off tonight and Boni at 2B is just asking for trouble. -

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 09:06 PM) Guys who 'only' throw 92 can still have success by not chalking up big pitch counts early in games. Pitch counts are about the dumbest thing around to measure a guys ability to stay in a game, but it unfortunately is the metric that still some how reigns supreme. He has to find a way to find some efficiency. He's pitched more innings than Sale the last two years combined, what now? If you're gonna b**** about a guy that's thrown over 200 innings each of the last two years and will likely do so again this year -- then you will b**** about 95% of starting pitchers because there aren't many Jim Palmers and Nolan Ryan rubber arms left out there. -

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 08:59 PM) If Q could be more direct at going after guys, who knows what his career W/L record would look like. 101 games career, 600 innings...these 20+ pitch innings have to be much less a part of his starts. You want him to turn into John Danks? He has a 92 mph heater. He works with what he has man. Being "more direct" would lead to gopherballs. -

Jesus, he's one of the 20 best starters in baseball signed to a team friendly deal. Yea, if Boston wants to give you Bogarts and Betts for you him you drive him to the airport himself but short of being bowled over like that with an offer of young MLB ready starters -- f*** no you don't trade him. -

lol at trading Q because as usual his defense sucks donkey dick. You guys need to appreciate him more. He could have gone off on his fielders a dozen times over the last few years. His body language is always neutral or positive. Dude has reason to be angry and he keeps it together. -

QUOTE (Chris Sale @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 05:22 PM) I can't imagine they do either, but the White Sox offense is unimaginably bad. The White Sox are 30th in offensive WAR (with -1.4, the only team in the negatives), 29th in wOBA, 28th in Runs, 28th in Home Runs, 28th in Stolen Bases (and 30th in Stolen Base percentage), 30th in isolated power, and 26th in BB%, and (by far our best offensive metric) 22nd in batting average. There are teams that are arguably worse at certain facets of the offensive game, but there is no other team that has been so awful at so many components put together. Shuck has shown some promising ability lately, when Avi was out, and Boni was pretty solid at the top of the lineup for the Cubs at the beginning of last year. If they flop, they flop, but it's absolutely worth a try. OMG they've been so bad and yet here they are somehow still hovering around .500 If they just f***ing regress to some of these guys' career lines... -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 05:35 PM) Maybe his hips are tight and that's what leads to the poor motion at the end. Yea that's a good point. Get this man in Vinyasa class.
