  1. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 12:04 PM) The kind of crap I do when I'm bored at work on a Friday afternoon: Chris Sale averages 1.087 K/IP. If he averages 1.35 IP per team game played, which rates out to 218.7 IP per season, he will break the franchise strikeout record in June 2019, or just a couple months after his 30th birthday. Wow, knock on wood he stays healthy. Some good posts on the Cy Young here. I agree that Chris and Felix are equal enough on rate to where Felix's "extra" 40 or so innings should give him the Cy. Chris has had an excellent year but Felix has done about the same with more innings so in fairness the Cy should go to him.
  2. yes eaton has to play at least 130 games next year otherwise forget it. He's the difference between 82 wins and 86 probably and maybe even 87 if he can play 150.
  3. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 10:32 PM) Keep in mind that Rock thinks Avi Garcia is the next Ordonez I think Avi can be a 290/330/500 type with average defense and above average running. All things considered in today's s*** offensive environment that's a 4 war player. (hi Adam Eaton). That's about as good as Maggs was. Maybe his peak won't quite be as good as Maggs' but he could have a very similiar impact.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 10:26 PM) I believe they think one other good pitcher with Sale and Q as well as a reliable pen could contend right now. One bat and it could win. Mind you thats with a fully healthy squad. IMO they need a really good LH hitter. Wilkins is NOT the answer we can hope. history hasn't been that kind recently.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 10:13 PM) IMO, I believe we can contend with a better pen, one good arm in the rotation and maybe one solid bat (not middle of the order). change that to two bats and I agree. Tall order in one offseason. If Avi takes a big leap forward and Jose doesn't regress too badly OK maybe one but ideally they better production from at least LF and 2B and probably C and one of DH/1B. Where that comes from who knows and Sanchez may be the answer but not everything is going to break right and I don't think the Sox can expect to contend with all of Sanchez/Semian, Viciedo and Flowers in next years opening day lineup.
  6. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 06:00 PM) Speaking of which, does anyone know the last time an AL pitcher has done that? Pedro in 2000 had an ERA of 1.74. That was an ERA plus of (get ready...) 291. Sale's ERA+ is "only" 190. Pedro Martinez is possibly the greatest pitcher of all time. You check his B-Ref page and it blows you away. Dude was dominating during the steroid era, just filthy.
  7. hahahahahahahaha. go troll somewhere else.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 04:35 PM) I think 8-8 will keep them in the top 10, and since I predicted 74-88 before the season started, I'd take that. I think I went with 77 and 85 or something like that so a bit optimistic but if Avi didn't get injured they'd probably be a couple games better. The rest of the injuries were just the usual stuff but Avi's was a bit of a freak play.
  9. pushing Oakland fans over the ledge has been a lot of fun these past few days. Good job Sox. Avi starting to find a little rhythm at the plate. Good to see.
  10. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 11:26 PM) 65th win! I'm all for tanking but this win feels good wins are always good we're not gona get a top 5 pick. that was a good win and once again the "right" guys are coming through...team still needs a boatload more talent though. Seems to be heading in the right direction though. This team is all together much improved (and cheaper and younger) than last year's finishing bunch.
  11. lol people are writing off Garcia? Come on if healthy he's a 4 tool player. Check the projections on him as well, it's not just scouts that love him he's projected for around 10 WAR through age 27. It's terribly over used but his hit tool is legit, he's hitting 278 with all his experience coming before age 24. His OPS+ is 103. He's already a solid hitter, when he gets some experience under his belt he could be an excellent hitter. Not to mention he's fast and can field a bit if he continues to improve. I think personally he's been good since returning from injury in RF.
  12. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 09:31 PM) 5Ks...nice only 1BB If it's one thing this org can f***ing do, it's produce solid starters. I'd like to see them have a SURPLUS of guys again instead of a freaking shortage. The position player talent is awful, any lingering doubts as to how poorly KW left this franchise should be long gone.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 07:56 PM) Well, on the plus side, that makes the likes of Flowers, Garcia and Viciedo look much better in comparison. There is a pretty big reason that 26-27 year old 1B in AAA aren't usually considered prospects, even when they are putting up numbers like Wilkins. He looks awful. This team has packed it in the for the year. They should start sitting Jose more as well.
  14. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 11:32 PM) His ERA with the Sox is 4.28 Like I said, squinting. Ideally he's the 5th with Rodon maybe 4, plus a free agent, danks gone.
  15. QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 11:07 PM) More wins than last year!!! Nice, and quite a bit more anchors to build on in the future too. I like what Noesi is doing I can squint and see a solid 4th starter next year for him.
  16. Caught the final couple innings. What a way to win it! Love spoiling Oakland's season and forget the draft pick stuff for a night -- exciting win! From the box looks like Noesi did alright and so did the pen. Not much offense but Flowers making a strong case to enter 2015 as a plausible starting catcher. I don't know if he'll ever be much more than a good backup at best adequate starter but that's not bad. He is very durable and that's a point in his favor.
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 04:03 PM) I actually prefer second half Abreu. He's been hitting like Miguel Cabrera. Sure I'd like to see a few more homers, but you can't complain about a .438 OBP and .534 SLG. I think he's tired and is trying to pace himself. Next year he'll have a full offseason to train knowing how long the grind is. He came into camp probably about 10-15 lbs overweight (not even saying he was out of shape just a little overweight for a 162 game grind) so next spring I think he'll show up a little lighter on his feet and that will help. Seems like he's also "just missed" a couple HR that earlier in the year he was getting a bit lucky on. And yea, there is nothing wrong with a .438/534 split -- as you said, that's Frank Thomas -- one of the 20 best hitters of all time. And Jose is doing this in a relative dead ball era.
  18. Anyone that thinks a kid that his .199 in AAA would have magically been a 250 hitter in MLB is f***ing delusional. Furthermore, if the kid is that upset about the demotion how in the hell is he going to have the mental toughness to perservere through his first 2 for 50 streak? Some of you guys are nuts, seriously.
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 09:09 AM) The last thing I am going to worry about is how many home runs go into making up a player's .983 OPS. Abeu leads the AL in SLG, OPS, OPS+, and I wouldn't trade any of those to have him lead the league in HR. No kidding. So he's turned from Mark McGwire into Frank Thomas -- no problems here!
  20. The problem is that he SUCKS against LHP. It's an obvious platoon situation and Robin doesn't see it. An idea that could easily work is to use Semian as a true super sub next year (he was playing SS in AAA) as a platoon 3B against LHP for Conor and a day off sub for Alexei, Sanchez and whoever if in LF. That would get him 300 or so PA and it protects Conor's value because he loses a lot of it against LHP.
  21. good job Tank, up that trade value!
  22. Well at least Avi looks good.
  23. anybody need any laundry dried? Like, maybe you own a small country? Because that's how much rope has been laid out against Danks so far. good god the Twins announcers DO THEY DO ANY RESEARCH? John Danks had a f***ing major surgery you idiots he hasn't been the same since. He's not "that type of pitcher" anymore. He sucks!
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 07:39 PM) Wow, I guess they don't throw offspeed pitches in AAA Yea welcome to the bigs. Wilkins hardly walks at all, he's going to have to hit like 270-280 to have any value. Not gonna happen IMO.
  25. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 07:27 PM) That is fine by me because nobody in the Sox dugout has any faith in him anymore other than Jordan. I think only one Soxtalk regular still thinks he's a plausible starter next year and that's Dick Allen.
