He's been playing a little better and with Colson's back a bit iffy he's gotta stay for now as I don't think they trust Gonzo or Chase at SS, and I think that's smart. Acuna has been solid in the field at SS and that has some value for a backup.

Yes and without some big bats in the lineup recently. Defense has been solid too overall, since they were at around -10 runs below avg they've climbed up to -8.1 over the last few month. Not a great defense, but solid.

Now 6th in fWAR at 10.3 for position players with a 107 wRC+, also good for 6th in MLB. Pitching 17th in fWAR but 21st in FIP. I don't really use xFIP anymore but if you prefer it 25th in xFIP. So good to borderline great offense and mediocre to borderline bad pitching. All adds up to 1st place so far.

Trading back end 10-15 prospects in system for immediate help bullpen makes fine sense imo. just get some cost controlled arms if any turn out.

Things can change quickly so at this point if you keep winning I'd say f*** it, at least trade some prospect depth for high leverage arms this season. If they are like 65-57 before the deadline, why hte hell not?

I wouldn't say he's an ace, but I also wouldn't say he isn't capable of what he did tonight. Very good 2nd starter at the very least. Great player to have. Kinda crazy to think that and we got the number one pick and few live arms and bats still down in the farm beyond teel hoping to heal up for the stretch.

It doesn't even feel real. But there isn't a single guy they've call upon other than maybe Nishida and Quero where I thought that's just not a MLB player. Gonzo and Montgomery look like players, in their own way. Even Nishida for what he is isn't horrible, we just have a good depth now to where a .5 WAR potential 29th man is a complaint.

It's legit crazy how many players we have peaking right now. Even if 1/3 crash hard it's still a core. This is like in OOTP when you get insanely lucky on the fantasy draft to start a league. I gotta give Getz his credit here. He's got a good development staff in place for the first time since the 90s here in Chicago and he's ID'ing the players that will thrive in it.
