  1. If Tim improves to league average defensive SS and they can get Jose off 1B a few times a week the infield should be pretty solid. Moncada and Madrigal are going to vacuum up anything in their area.
  2. Not really, I think it's mostly quality of FO. Look at TB. They are a forgotten entity even in Tampa, they play in a glorified bouncy house and yet because of a strong FO they contend more often than not.
  3. As I noted in his thread, Keuchel would be the main beneficiary of what should be a very solid defensive club when Madrigal and Robert are integrated in. On paper this is a solid move but the proof will be in the pudding with any Hahn FA.
  4. I'm OK with this deal but need a couple more. I think you can project him for about 160 innings and an ERA around 4.20 so around 2.5 bWAR, maybe a little better if Chicago has a really good defense once Robert and Madrigal are up and settled.
  5. I agree 100%. He has to adjust his training. He's a young buck man when that T is flowing through you after a 500lb squat it's hard not to keep doing them. But he'd be better served doing almost all light weight high rep stuff mixed with holistic style training focused on injury prevention, athletic movements specific to baseball (starting and stopping constantly) and general flexibility.
  6. You guys are silly. You ever try and walk with a strained hamstring? How about run? It's not a bruise. You try and play through something like that and rip it and you miss the next 6 months and a lot of guys never fully recovery from a grade 3 hamstring tear. Or if they do they are impacted the rest of their career -- see Chris Paul and Jozy Altidore. So yea be a tough guy and hurt yourself more. Lord knows we already went through that BS with Reynaldo and thankfully Jose was there to let Rick know what was going on. Ya'll ever play sports after grade school or train? Man, I wonder sometimes.
  7. Good. The hamstring stuff is probably from over training quads relative to hamstrings. Hopefully he can put it all together next year if he plays 162 games he will be worth about 6-7 WAR. @EloyJenkins ha just saw your post yes indeed, great minds!
  8. I'm sure Kornheiser has studied the move in depth and can quote $/war spent this offseason and how Gio slots into the 5th starter spot in Chicago.
  9. Very long odds, they aren't going to add him to the 40 man when they already have Mendick. I'd be shocked if he breaks camp with the MLB club. He probably just liked the depth chart and is hoping for an injury.
  10. When you listen to Jim talk on his podcast you wonder if you accidentally tuned into a like a bird watching expert that had to talk about baseball for a day. Like, his opinions are...valueless. He's frames every topic in this moronic sort of "well it could turn out like this...or like that". Thanks Jim, great insight.
  11. He's toast. Over under on career WAR from this point from him is probably 5.
  12. So whats the money? I want to compare it to the Wade Miley deal.
  13. At the start of FA or now? Either way that's such a fail. You...held out for one of the shittiest Boras clients? For what exactly?
  14. say they throw in like 25 million, which is realistic -- maybe 40 man scrub like Engel and then whatever random C+ prospect they want. But if they do that they should have just signed Wheeler!
  15. No kidding. Those guys would net someone like...Yoan Moncada! Someone you could project 300+ million surplus on before FA. Not a fucking overpaid bum like Price and a guy entering FA.
  16. Of course they are. Maybe any scraps they want to drop on the ground from the adult table the Sox can pick up.
  17. Cashing in on Vaughn and Madrigal and turning them into Price and Benintendi would probably kill off half this place as fans. You'd be turning about 100 million in surplus projected value over the next 3 years into 0-30 million depending on how much cash Boston ships. Yikes.
  18. so a top 10 prospect and a top 30 one for a guy with about 40 million in dead money on his deal relative to production and a 2.5 WAR corner OF already in arb. Gammons, just retire dude you called the wrong number that wasn't a Red Sox FO member that answered it was the Barstool Boston guy.
  19. It dovetails nicely with getting the extra year back, so there's no doubt as soon as that day passes (it's like early may right?) he'll be up.
  20. pretty team friendly deal. that said, he's not very good. that option doesn't have a very good chance of getting picked up.
  21. I feel like this happens a lot: JR: so who is are the _____ to get us over the hump in FA? Hahn: these guys, but specifically this one guy. JR: will we have to overpay what your metrics say we should? Hahn: No, I can make it happen at the price we consider good. *player signs elsewhere* JR: What happened? Hahn: we can make better use of the payroll.
