  1. Yea Mike sure could go get it but his power never really developed how we hoped. That said, Mike had a great career and should probably be in the "hall of very good". If Robert comes close that would be awesome.
  2. Well nobody wants a bunch of rain/cold/snow outs to start the season but at the same time as @Balta1701 noted the southern teams don't want to have a top heavy late march and April schedule either so they usually compromise like it appears they've done this year. That said, weather looks good this year mostly. Thank god! Baseball is not meant to be played or watched below 50 or so degrees. Here in Seattle we've had a crazy winter and now start to spring with record cold and now record heat and finally more normal seasonal temps. Should be in the mid 50s, maybe slightly colder, for the 4pm game here against the Red Sox. Should be a fine afternoon to play and the roof open.
  3. when does the season actually start, is it this week? ah, it's Thursday cool.
  4. The season starts in about a week. Until then, it's still the offseason and it's been a dumpster fire and folks are going to comment on said dumpster fire. As I've said many times if you admins just made a "b****ing and moaning thread" it would clean things up. But what do I know.
  5. “When we originally sat down with Jerry a little over two and a half years ago to outline the process we were about to undertake in terms of this rebuild, there was a portion of it that dealt with the economics,” Hahn said. “Part of that was continuing to be aggressive with our young players, players we projected to be part of a championship core and trying to get them locked up for the long term. “Jerry was fully on board. He understood that given the current economic landscape, the importance of doing this early and being aggressive when we did do that.” JR: Rick, my accountant guy told me that according to something he read on Fangraphs this morning called "ZIPS" Eloy is probably going to cost us a lot of money in arb and you know I CAN'T STAND that! Rick: Don't worry JR, if it's one thing my ass has done for you it's save money. We'll get this one done before the season and get this -- I got a killer plan -- we'll wait until after Machado and Harper sign elsewhere so it makes the optics better. JR: You're gold Rick, you're really something. I keep you around for a reason.
  6. I'd like to see the overall numbers for MLB in AZ given that spring training in MLB seems to be more and more a "thing you do in the beautiful march weather of southern Arizona". Last time I went in 2017 there was a palpable sense that it had grown into more than just about baseball (good for baseball really) and was about just having a really good time while laying in the sun and taking in the chance to see pro athletes for 10 cents on the dollar and taking that savings to buy booze and food. edit: well, perception can be a helluva thing. Looks like the last year I went in 2017 was a high water mark for attendance and they've seen a small dip the last two years. Dodgers increased their attendance this year at Camelback as well but only slightly, around 2%. Wonder if the nasty Chicago February weather helped? Couldn't find much on Cubs attendance this spring.
  7. It's spring training. Anybody still on the mound is either ready the fuck to ship north for the real games and throwing at 70% of game speed or is some marginal roster guy trying to make a team. If Yoan hits 300 this season well then fuck me. But nothign in his profile says high average hitter. His bread will be buttered with patience and power.
  8. lol, dude, how old are you? If you're older than 30, just stop. spring training is a joke. the stats don't matter in 95% of the cases. this sox team is going to be at best mediocre offense with a bad pitching staff. I'd be shocked if they win 75 games.
  9. Huge year obviously for the kid. Time to stay healthy and turn that potential into tangible production and progress. You hope he hits enough to move up to Birmingham by July.
  10. I have 100% trust in Ricky to make the right decision.
  11. Imagine being a white Sox exec and thinking the kid you just drafted to play middle infield, currently in low A ball, is so guaranteed to be a good regular that you move a guy that by most metrics graded out slightly worse than league average to a new position. I mean, this is the fucking WHITE SOX SCOUTING AND DEVELOPMENT TEAM HERE. Nick Madrigal has so much to prove before you even CONSIDER this move. It's beyond stupid. I don't fucking care if Moncada turns into Joe Crede at the hot corner this was not good process and bad process, as we've seen time and time again with this club, will lead to bad results more often than not.
  12. That seems like a steal for Boston -- health depending of course. Sale is averaging like 6 fWAR a year in Boston. $29/m a year for that isn't bad, at all.
  13. I'm totally cool with it because everybody knows the Sox' MLB coaching staff and scouting department is legendary and if they think it's the right move you have to trust them.
  14. Never been a fan of ban bets. I like sig bets tho. If he plays over 50 games in MLB I'll make it whatever somebody wants.
  15. I'll take a sig bet that takes the under on 200 career MLB games played for Burger. Hell, I'd feel pretty confident at 50.
  16. I really don't think Pablo Sandaval is the guy you want to point towards optimistically. He basically ate himself out of the league.
  17. You can do a lot of athletic things 30lbs overweight at age 18-21. That doesn't make carrying that weight a good idea long term. There is absolutely no good reason to have 20% body fat as a MLB 3B, or any position other than DH.
  18. just looks like he's training with too much body fat imo. Gotta get disciplined if he wants to stick at 3B. To be completely honest tho I don't see how anybody comes back in pro sports from a twice torn achilles, I really don't care how young.
  19. if he was, he wouldn't be a former guy in baseball now writing about it. He's good at being loud.
  20. Now if that's even close to true then it's grievance time, yikes.
  21. right but couldn't the Union? I have no idea why they would, but it seems like something they might press for leverage because it is pretty good evidence that he was ready, they just held him down for service time.
  22. Eloy's in the union now so I'd have to think that they would respect his wishes and NOT filed a grievance on his behalf.
  23. so the only reason (to keep him down) is to make it appear they weren't going to manipulate his service time? If so, that's...not a reason.
