QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) If he had to change his approach due to injury, or had problems with certain approaches because of pain, range of motion, etc, it is very understandable to think that those problems could also affect his mental game. I also wonder if there wasn't a confidence-blown thing in there. IIRC prior to the injury he was looking really good in that ST.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) But we start from a basic premise that taking the life of another human is morally wrong EXCEPT in situations a, b and c. Except when there's a gun involved... I'll let myself out now.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 01:54 PM) Emilio had to do something to be utilized. He sucked so bad from the first day of spring training until he was DFA'd. I'm sure if he started playing well, he would have received his shot, but that didn't happen. One thing IIRC you've said before is that he's streaky so if he didn't get a chance to play regularly he'd probably never get a chance to have a good streak.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 12:17 PM) Is this really true though? I mean, I know there's a lot of money spent out there, but if I'm a billionaire, wtf would I waste hundreds of millions on a candidate that (1) has no good shot at winning and (2) even if he/she does, there's no guarantee any meaningful legislation that benefits me would get enacted? I see very little benefit for doing so. Because right now it only takes 10s of millions to get them through the primary phase and that's a write-off when you're worth $10 billion and make $500 million per year on random stock transactions. In exchange for that you get politicians begging at your feet and worshipping you like you're a deity, plus if you have any issue come up it's probably worth a few billion to have the president on your side. It's seriously keeping some of the also-ran Republicans in the race. Santorum is there because he has the same billionaire who funded his campaign in 2012. Rick Perry can't pay his staff for his official campaign but his SuperPAC has tens of millions in the bank. If Jim Webb had a billionaire, you'd be hearing a lot more other than me laughing at Jim Webb. In 2012, Tim Pawlenty was out already because of a lack of money. Note that isn't happening now even for guys who can't pay their staff.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 11:32 AM) That is fine hindsight. We all wish they hadn't signed him now. If he simply hit how he did last year, a good overall season playing every day despite bad splits, no one would be complaining. The fact that he can't hit lefties this year isn't the main problem, it's that he hasn't hit righties. No it isn't. There was absolutely no hindsight whatsoever in saying "Adam LaRoche should not play regularly against LH Starting pitchers and we shouldn't sign him if he insists that he must". Yes he's been worse against righties, but for the first 3 months of the season his failure against lefties was a major problem too. Hell, he's still put up a .700 OPS against righties on the year, even though that's fallen off over the last month+ while he's been terrible against everyone. He put up a .405 OPS against lefties and that's not that far from what he did last year. If he wasn't willing to platoon he wasn't worth signing.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 10:42 AM) Making a QO to Shark is a win-win for the Sox. If he rejects, the Sox get a comp pick. If he accepts, they get him back but are only committed to him for one more year. While I agree with you, the Devil's Advocate reply is....are you ready to give Samardzija a ~$7 million raise from this year?

Wouldn't a stress fracture have made it very hard to play hurt, and wouldn't that be the kind of thing that would heal very poorly if it weren't diagnosed?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 09:31 AM) I'm really disappointed in this Dem field. Way too thin, and just poor candidate depth. You've got a Clinton, a guy whose ideas are wholly impractical (Sanders), O'Malley, and... anyone else? Really? The Dems have the advantage in that they don't suffer from the MUST FOLLOW PARTY LINE problem nearly as badly as the GOP does. But the Dems have a real lack of leadership bench. If Hillary wasn't there, there would be a much more open field. But really, this is the SuperPAC era. There aren't going to be many billionaires willing to turn against Hillary Clinton if she's the most obvious party standard bearer by funding an alternative candidate and if you don't have a billionaire to fund your campaign, you're facing such a huge headwind that you're outgunned. Both sides are dominated by the billionaire setup right now. 17 Republicans because there's no obvious standard bearer and 14 or so have billionaires who can keep their candidacy afloat, very few Democrats because there is an obvious standard bearer and the billionaires won't ignore that. You've forgotten Jim Webb and Jim Jeffords as officially declared candidates, for whatever that's worth (less than LaRoche against a lefty).

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 09:11 AM) I'm not convinced the White Sox ever planned on sitting LaRoche vs. LHP. I believe they signed him to be an everyday player, splits be damned. I find that hard to believe given the signings of Bonifacio and Beckham...they actually signed exactly the right kind of players - able to hit RH, play multiple positions, run the bases, can use them in several spots and move the weaker defender to DH and actually be able to keep everyone well rested - but I sure can't rule out that they're as inept as you say.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 09:08 AM) Ozzie Jr. used to pretty much stay out of the controversy. It was usually Oney and then Ozney did step in. I was sitting a row behind Oney and Ozney who were with a couple of others at a game last year and they were opening rooting against the White Sox. Jr. sort of surprised me, especially with his anti-Hahn comments. Of course he seems to think he has all the answers, and as far as playing careers goes, he is pretty much in the same boat as Rick. Wasn't Ozzie Jr. still fairly young and actually drafted/playing in the minors up until Ozzie's last year or two? Or am I mixing up the kids?

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 09:27 PM) Of course they would. Follow the money! http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/6339/ira...uropeans-profit So you're in agreement that the sanctions will crumble if the U.S. backs out?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 11:17 PM) The signing did make sense at the time. Then they signed Beckham and there went all the playing time for Bonifacio. Would he have beat Gordon's -0 2 WAR with more at-bats? Who the heck knows, but the pity signing of Beckham doomed him from the start so it's not completely fair to simply judge people's initial reactions before Beckham was added. I continue to disagree with this. In January, the White Sox lineup featured 2 left hand hitters who we knew, 100% knew, had rotten platoon splits against lefties. LaRoche and Gillaspie. Going back 2 years for both of them they had been absolutely rotten against left handers. Bad enough where a Bonifacio or a Beckham putting up a .650 OPS against lefties would be a huge upgrade. (Oh, and that doesn't count the rookie LH hitter we were starting at 2b). If they could improve the defense at some position or be an asset on the basepaths, so much the better. We needed 2 right handed backups on the bench because we had 2 lefties in our lineup who should be in a platoon role. We needed both of them. Beckham's use out of ST was all right & not really his fault Gillaspie couldn't swing it any more. Why Bonifacio never got his chance is probably something relating to where he was physically or mentally or in ST or something like that and it's something I'll never know, but the end result of him not being used was LaRoche facing a bunch of lefties and Garcia and co constantly playing the field.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 06:58 PM) If you want to lose brain cells, read the replies to this comment. https://www.facebook.com/SportsCenter/photo...2%3A%22R9%22%7D Apparently, Sale is barely a top-20 pitcher in baseball. "He's better than top 20 and probably more top 10 but a few I'd prefer over him? Kershaw, Grienke, Bumgarner, Price, Archer, Keuchel, Cueto, Scherzer, Kluber, Arrieta, Gray" Chris really needs to stop with the inconsistency and just snap off a clear Cy Young winning, Pedro Martinez level season so we stop having to hear these comments. -
He double clutched, if he didn't get him that's why

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 03:59 PM) nope. empty pen Well, to be a little charitable, as hot as it is a warmup is 2 minutes for most guys out there. That said, someone ought to be throwing when the inning break hits.

Ump pissed him off and he went 98, 99, and then beautiful slider.

Calm down Chris, stay focused.

Time for Chris to keep dominating Bryant.
