QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS 2m2 minutes ago Manhattan, NY padres have interest in cubs power prospect javier baez. teams have talked. http://cbsprt.co/1Kz17Ac I don't know what the Cubs would get back but that makes sense as a place for Baez. They can struggle for a couple years while giving him PAs and he absolutely has the power to hit the ball out of that ballpark.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) I think the Rockies would take a lesser prospect for CarGo, but maybe not. If I'm the Sox, I don't think I'm trading Montas (I like his upside too much) but if their scouts long-term see him as a reliever and they buy into CarGo and you can free Danks payroll, then I could at the very least see the logic in it. Personally I just think playing with these talented guys with high contracts (who aren't playing up to them) is a slippery slope. Add in the adjustment from the NL (and Coors) and it just seems like the chance of it blowing up in your face is too great. Plus, if it did blow up in your face, that contract does actually do a lot more to cripple you long-term then what we did with LaRoche. I believe the Rockies would take a lesser prospect than that if they didn't accommodate the other team in salary relief. I don't know that they'd take much less than that if they still had to absorb $20 million or so.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:26 PM) Not really. LaRoche is a whipping boy, but he'll hit again. Wasn't too long ago Melky's contract was an albatross. I was told by one, he wouldn't put up a 4 WAR total from his low point for the balance of the contract. He is already 25% there. He has eked his way back to a positive WAR. LaRoche will hit again. Pretty sure I said 5 and over the full contract. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:02 PM) Carlos Gonzalez for John Danks, Frankie Montas and a filler. Who says no? I think that's the type of deal the Rockies would jump at.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) Goddell reviewing his own decision seems ridiculous enough for the NFLPA to agree to it. They clearly have had issues with this setup for a while yet they did not find it to be a big enough deal to be willing to give up something to ownership during the last CBA/Lockout.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 01:23 PM) There ain't much difference between D and R in the ethics department. The only difference is who gets excused by which people. I looked earlier and we're at IIRC 2 D indictments and 1 R indictment, along with 1 R who resigned before the indictment, so far this year, counting all of Congress.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:38 AM) If EJ still qualified as a prospect where would he fall in the top 100? I don't think he'd make it given his "incredibly down year" and "still unexplained velocity issues".

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 01:11 PM) Has everyone read the finding? I mean, it's very thorough and well written. The most damning things to me: Brady was asked to produce the phone and text/email records beginning in Feb (and multiple times thereafter). His interview with Wells was March 6th. He destroyed the phone March 6th. He DID provide a cell phone used a year prior, and he offered to provide his new phone (starting on March 6) but the NFL said it wasn't necessary. He instead refused to give the phone during the most damning time period - from the AFC championship game to March 6, his interview with Wells. Clearly his concerns for his private records is a bulls*** argument when he had handed over or offered to hand over 2 other phones for inspection. More importantly though, the NFL agreed to let Brady's attorney pick out the responsive communications and to keep the private ones private. Brady still refused to do that. The whole thing is silly and dumb, but I really can't say I have any qualms with what the Commish did. 4 games seems like a lot for such a minor offense, but he reasoned that it's akin to a first violation for steroids. Both involve an attempt to gain a competitive advantage by skirting the rules (and it doesn't require you to prove a competitive advantage was obtained), and both come with a 4 game penalty. Add in that Brady basically destroyed evidence and refused to fully cooperate, and I think what probably should have been a 1-2 game suspension goes to 4. Still dumb in the grand scheme, but I can see the logic behind it. This general case has seemed persuasive to me throughout, well summarized. I will be intrigued to see if they're able to present anything else solid in response when this case goes before an actual judge.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 01:04 PM) This is so embarrassing that he is leading in two primaries. I just don't understand these people whose sole standard for the most important person in the world is they just attack and make jokes of liberals and media. Give me the person that just rates the president by their looks anyday. To give Republican voters a bit of credit...we saw a heckuva lot of bouncing around between leaders who repeatedly fell off with embarrassments piling up in their 2012 race. They wound up settling on probably the sanest candidate in their field.

Starlin Castro and Jorge Soler not in line up for Cubs

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) I don't know why either, but everytime I ask a cubs fan I basically just hear "YOU CAN FIND X, YOU CANT FIND AN OFFENSIVE SHORTSTOP" even though it doesn't make sense. I'd probably take the gamble on claiming him on the waiver wire. But I'm not sure about that, there'd be some deep conversations with scouts first. -
QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 12:56 PM) I feel Gonzalez is attainable for Chris Beck-type prospects (outside of the top 10) plus potential salary relief (John Danks). Salary relief is clearly not an option for a potential Bruce trade, and I would guess our more upper echelon pitching prospects would be in play. If that's the case, I'd rather keep the good prospects and get CarGo. I don't think you can get both Gonzalez for Beck-type + salary relief. I think if you want a solid salary relief you'll need to include a solid player.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 12:36 PM) Ivana said that she felt very violated but didn't want people to interpret her comments as a criminal accusation. That's fair. It's also what I'd do if I didn't want to be in court against Donald Trump anymore. Trump's lawyer's comment was incredibly callous and inaccurate and is getting so much play because he proceeded to threaten the reporter with Donald's resources. That plus he was 100% factually incorrect on his legal assertion.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 12:26 PM) Aside from Adam's atrocious numbers, the Rockies have already said they would be better off keeping CarGo to further build his value for the rest of the season. Then trade him over the winter for a bigger haul. Sorry, just don't see the Rockies taking on LaRoche. I know the Rockies took Reyes salary back in return but Reyes is still a productive ball player, LaRoche is not. If you sent them Anderson or Montas, they'd probably take LaRoche on for that return.
-
QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) Ah, you're right, they are signed for the same length. My bad. I like CarGo a little more, but would be happy with Bruce if the price wasn't super high. What do you determine as "Super High"? We certainly have the ammunition to get him but it's going to likely require parting with someone we'd hope for the big league squad, maybe a couple someones.

White Sox will be buyers at the deadline

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 12:37 PM) That's what I thought, too. I see this as "totally how I expect the white sox to be thinking". -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 12:15 PM) The Rockies are trimming payroll and looking for pitching so can someone explain to me why they would want LaRoche? LaRoche has been hitting .141 with a .345 OPS for the month of July. No team is willing to take that on, just like Danks. Because the White Sox aren't likely to take on all of Cargo's remaining salary with their payroll constraints so the white Sox would have to send some salary back. The Rockies wouldn't normally be motivated to take salary back, requiring the White Sox to have to include a pretty solid player in the deal to get the Rockies motivated to do that. That's exactly what the Rockies did with the Blue Jays. They took back Reyes's deal which they probably didn't want, but they got the sweetener of Hoffman and others in the process.

Rep Chakah Fattah, D-PA, ranking member on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies for the Appropriations committee (helps write my budgets) gets a 29 count indictment on fraud, racketeering, etc.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 09:46 PM) Exactly. That's why I've been beating the drum. Not with his contract and injury history. Plus he's hot right now. They'll want to move him now while the iron is hot after they moved Tulo. The problem is...they very likely could have moved him several times over the past few years if they were just looking to get out from under his contract, and so far they've passed on those opportunities. They've been waiting for someone to offer them something decent in return for him, so they actually need to change that concept. Plus that's still a ton of money for the White Sox to take on. If you want the Rockies to take Danks back, then you need to include something to motivate them to do so.

Blue Jays interested in Quintana or Samardjiza

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 05:14 PM) Yes they can stand pat. And it's probably the right move. They have a chance, but it's small and it's for a 1 game wildcard. That's not enough to "go for it" but it is enough to keep Shark and take the comp pick v. the returns. It's 100% the wrong move. If you think your team really has a shot then make that decision and add a bat. If you don't think this team has a shot then sell him. Standing pat is just silly when it's clear your team has holes you could fill. If your GM isn't bold enough to make a decision, then hire me for his salary. I'll make one and if it's wrong you can fire me. At least I'll have made a decision. If you're paid that much to make decisions your decision better be "something". -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 04:31 PM) That's too much. Rockies don't need Micah. Their GM said today that no one is beating down their door for Cargo. I bet they would take just Adams for him. Tough call. If I were the rockies I'd take Adams, dump that salary, and be thrilled.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) I was just thinking it had been one post I wrote that you didn't bother to respond to with some pithy little insult. Seriously, do I need to re-register under a new name so that you don't feel the need to quote and respond with your "I think the opposite" response to literally every single one of my posts that you read? Of all the things written on here you think "butt buddy" is worthy of pointing out? You need to seriously relax on my posts. In fact, I've tried to ignore you so I don't have to deal with it but you can't ignore admins. Go figure. He wasn't the only one who thought that was unnecessary.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) Never thought I would ever post this a month ago, but I really wish Sanchez was in the lineup. as far as I can tell he has played every game since the AS break, including a DH, with only the scheduled offday on June 20th as any time off. The Sox don't have an offday for a week and a half from now, and they've only got 5 offdays the rest of the year with at least 1 more DH in there. I'm generally ok with giving a guy a day off in that. In fact I wish we'd do that more. I just hope Robin doesn't decide to PH him and end his hitting streak.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) I really hope Shark dominates tonight. For our sake and if they're going to move him. If they're going to move him it would probably be best for the White Sox to lose 1-0 on an unearned run tonight. If they're not going to move him, f*** it, keep scoring.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 03:40 PM) Yes its going to make their window a lot shorter. The Tigers had a nice run but nobody will remember because they never actually won the title. And IMO its worse for the Royals because their lifeblood is the development of these players. If you viewed Alex Gordon as a key part of their window...there was a solid risk of their window closing after this year anyway.

@CST_soxvan Last White Sox to make 10 consecutive starts of at least 7 IP was Mark Buehrle from 9/4/04-4/21/05. Colleen Kane @ChiTribKane Jeff Samardzija has pitched at least seven innings in nine consecutive starts, a career-high and the longest streak in baseball this year.
