  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 10:17 AM) Robin would be wise to fade you. You have no idea what you are talking about. So is your game just to never advocate for anything and just criticize when other people take a firm position or do you actually think Jordan Danks is a good leadoff hitter and we'd be better off with Viciedo as a platoon only player?
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 10:09 AM) Again, you are picking out odds randomly that even Caulfield couldn't come up with. They were facing a left handed pitcher. You wanted Gillaspie to lead off. Versus a left handed pitcher, how do you come up with 5 to 1 odds against that Semien would outperform Gillaspie? No, I actually listed everyone in the lineup other than Jordan Danks as a candidate to lead off. Thanks for the easy to shoot down lie. Jordan Danks, of course, then led off the next day.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 10:01 AM) On that night, with the other options and short term, it was fine. It wasn't a permanent thing, and Semien was up to the task. So because it worked, it was ok to do something silly and you think that's something you can brag about. Like I said, $100k on a 5 to 1 game a few times. Same setup and you can brag to me about the millions you bring home. After all, there's no downside to silly moves.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 09:56 AM) Nice comeback. Now go back to managing on the internet, and continue to get out managed by the guy you complain about. So you don't believe your own crap? Not willing to stick by your statements that .200 hitters batting leadoff is always a good thing?
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 09:53 AM) Be a Spring Training instructor and then do the ambassador role and then he'll eventually begin to take on more responsibilities and maybe within 3-4 years of retiring, he's on the bench full time in some capacity. How old are his kids? I'd figure there's a chance he might genuinely want to do the "Spend a couple years with family" thing at some point.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 09:46 AM) Yeah you are a genius. You complained Paulie wasn't in the opening day line up after complaining after he signed that he would play TOO MUCH. You complained De Aza was playing on opening day when he it 2 homers. You complained Semien led off the other day when he had 4 hits. You really don't know as much as you think, but keep patting yourself on the back. Tell you what, I think you should continue showing how strongly you believe in your defenses of moves that are poorly planned and really shouldn't work. There's a real simple technique, go to Vegas and bet $100k on the underdog in a bunch of games where the odds are 5 to 1 against. then tell me how spectacularly it works out for you.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 09:28 AM) It could be a lot worse. Robin could have actually listened to your complaints and suggestions. I know, I mean, all I wanted was for Viciedo to get playing time, and now that he's gotten it look how awful he's been. Clearly he belonged on the bench that first week of the year. He's useless.
  8. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 09:23 AM) There will be injuries and Paulie will get more at bats. Now when the increase comes, he may decide he does not want to continue. Then again, he could also get an injury and hang them up sooner. He could also get more playing time, go on a tear and sign again for next season. He may be the manager next season. 2+ years ago I wasn't looking forward to the "Konerko as manager" talk when it comes around. Now? Can't be worse. Wonder if we'll get Thome first.
  9. QUOTE (MEANS @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 08:32 AM) Why is it so hard for people to accept and understand his role this season? These same people will call him a class act but actually suggest him hanging it up mid season? WTF? Unless he get's hurt he not hanging it up mid season, and even then I'm sure he would be in the clubhouse helping mentor the younger guys. Well first of all, he's 2/19 and not looking very good at it. Second of all, he's not even on pace for 200 PA's, he's on pace for half that.
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 08:27 PM) Who said anything about giving up on Johnson, that would be nuts. The guy who wants to replace 2 starters in a 5 man rotation. This is pretty simple. 5-2=3. One starter must be removed out of the other 4 to do that.
  11. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 08:24 PM) I think they are going to need three of the high-to-medium priced pitchers on the market and then take a chance on a guy for a year. Some combo of 2 starters and 2 relievers. So does everyone else here agree that we need to give up on Johnson?
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 08:01 PM) Garcia has some nice physical tools, but if you can turn him into a quality utility guy I think that's a win. I just don't see his defense getting to the level that will offset his lack of a hit tool. If he were playing shortstop every day his defense could get there with what those guys hit today, but he's not working there every day so that probably does leave him as a utility guy long term.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 07:54 PM) Velocity on that Abreu home run was "only" 93 MPH...no Verlander's best. But STILL. Tigers' announcers seem to think the strategy with Abreu is to get him thinking inside and then trick him to the outside...at least it was in that at-bat. Another play that COULD have been made by Jose but wasn't. Oh, well. Learning curve year. Dude that's what Verlander ALWAYS throws early in the game.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 05:12 PM) Dude is fragile. If this year's injury didn't convince people of that, nothing will.
  15. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 03:46 PM) Pitching depth has become underrated? Please elaborate because I'm not seeing this so called "depth". This isn't the first year that a few guys in the minor leagues have gotten off to weak starts for whatever reason. Rienzo did last year and wound up contributing in the bigs after 10+ dominating starts.
  16. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 04:59 PM) Danks can strike out with the best of them. Especially for someone who is not a power hitter. When he's bad, he's bad. De Aza should get the playing time until July and then we should move on from him. The chances of salvaging value from him are obviously waning. I just hope we have someone pushing to get ABs in August/September (namely Thompson). This would continue to be very much a rush with Trayce. He's actually still young and he seems to be showing benefits from the team stopping at AA and taking their time with him.
  17. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) A non-overused Rose maybe? If Derrick Rose is overused after the last 2 seasons, then so is Ronnie Brewer.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 03:29 PM) I think the need for a premiere pitcher (with their lack of pitching depth) is just too strong for the Sox to take another middle infielder. With that said, if they were picking in the 8-10 range, he absolutely would be a guy they would take. I think the Sox pitching depth has rapidly become underrated...and I absolutely think they should target a pitcher here. The pitchers by everyone's account are just standing head and shoulders above the position players. And there's no such thing as too much top flight pitching.
  19. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 02:22 PM) Money for 2013 winter spent on Abreu. No chance they go after Daniel. This guy's best year looks to be about an .860 OPS in Cuba. Yes he's younger, but compared to the 1.260 OPS Abreu put up...
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 02:21 PM) I personally couldn't care less about the COY award but using the no titles argument is silly. Then explain to me why all the points you guys just made didn't add up to Thibs winning the title. Y'all just spent several posts explaining why he should have won.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 01:55 PM) I don't get how what Pop did this year with the Spurs is more impressive than what Thibs did with the Bulls. The Spurs have Tony Parker and Tim Duncan. The Bulls lost their #1 star 6 games into the season, and their #2 star was traded away. The Bulls were a freaking lottery team under about any other coach. Even if their record was reversed at 34-48, that would have been impressive with the complete lack of talent they have. Then he should go win a title.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) I should say that I wouldn't doubt that they do move, just that they're not going to give up 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for it. If that's the draft sheet price for the 14th pick, it could be possible, but as I noted in the second clause, it could depend on how much demand there is to move up. If the 49ers are the only team looking to move up and there are 20 teams looking to move down, the price to move up will decrease.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 01:38 PM) I just think he clearly had a bigger disadvantage than Pop did and made a much bigger impact. This is no disrespect to Pop, he has a well oiled machine and everyone knows their roles. The Spurs did what everyone expected them to. The Bulls did the exact opposite, the tank calls came out strong when rose went down and even stronger when Deng was traded and this team became one of the best in the conference starting in January. I'm not pretending about anything, to me the award goes to the coach that did the best job over the course of the season. You play who is on the schedule. Again, Pop is amazing, they are by far one of the top 3 teams in the nba. IMO, Pop is at the point now where he's also almost getting COY awards by default. Unless there's someone else who clearly carries a team, his team will be at the top of the conference, a finals contender, and everyone will credit him. I agree that there's a very strong case to be made for Thibs, but the case is just about equally strong for Popp, and guess which guy has 4 rings?
  24. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 01:46 PM) We can probably chalk up the next two games as losses. We should look forward to Thursday's matchup. Remember, this is still baseball, when you write such things, even if they should be correct, they're likely going to wind up wrong.
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 01:43 PM) .228/.286/.368 Those are his numbers now? Man he fell off about as fast as De Aza.
