QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 10:45 PM) After Johnson's appearance in the Southern League All-Star team in the middle of June and the collegiate draft additions and an assortment of players start getting pushed up or released. It's going to be in Chattanooga on June 17th, so he should be in Charlotte around the last two weeks of the month. GMAB, they don't make roster decisions based on how long the flight to Charlotte is. Come on.

This is the kind of thing people should expect when they demand high risk, high-reward guys. You don't like Lance Broadways in the draft? Then you'll get a mix of guys who are really spectacular and guys who spectacularly fall apart.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 27, 2014 -> 12:27 PM) There are ways to get word through intermediaries, but it certainly is on the conspiracy side for sure. I think the Cubs/Sox rivalry has been kicked up a few notches since Theo took over and JR spearheaded the new rules for the draft and international spending that was surely directed towards the Cubs. Hoffman's soreness really throws a monkey wrench in the Sox draft plans. Do they deal with Boras, take a high school arm, or disregard the soreness and take Hoffman. I think the opposite. No one seems to care any more because the Cubs have been bad for so long. Even my Cub fan friends can't stand talking baseball.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 06:19 PM) That is the first name that came to my mind. They made her sell. They gave her several chances but it's not like this is his first problem. Multi-million dollar suit settled for the same issue previously.

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 04:52 PM) I think it's more that the players that come here have seasoned themselves to professional baseball, are older than guys in the states coming up from AAA. If Abreu came here two or three years ago it would have been a better equivalent. Perhaps wording it along the lines of "to be eligible for ROTY honors a player must have played the majority of the last season (or whatever) on a United States minor league team or played (3 years or average minor league time) on a professional team outside the US. I'm guessing here but someone who was a AA or AAA league MVP in 2010 would have been on a MLB roster by 2012. One way to make an exception to that would be an injury. AAA MVP who goes down for Tommy John surgery right at the end of the year, misses a full season, then steps back up.

QUOTE (Whitey @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 06:47 PM) I like the idea of getting rid of Beckham/DeAza and freeing up Danks salary for young prospects... But, trading Alexei and Dunn seems counter productive. The Sox are trying to move upward with a quickness, not throw in the towel on the next half decade like the north siders... Both Alexei and Dunn are worth more to the Sox right now than they are to any other team in MLB. How does Dunn fit into that sentence? Dunn is a free agent at the end of this year as well and thus the next "half decade" wouldn't be impacted at all even if he was just released. -
Gillaspie to DL, Noesi to active roster

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 04:39 PM) For tomorrow's starting pitcher. Could they put Noesi in that slot? -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 04:39 PM) Maybe they will do the same thing that the MLB did to the McCourts, basically ice him out and force him to sell. It won't be easy though, Sterling has fought this fight many times and won Marge Schott could be a similar scenario perhaps? The full suspension of all management rights?

QUOTE (farmteam @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 04:33 PM) What can the NBA really do to him? Serious question. I'm sure there's some sort of censure option, but is there anything of actual substance? Well there's supposed to be an Adam Silver press conference at like 8:00 tonight, so we'll see.

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 10:45 PM) OMG THIS IS THE LONGEST FOURTH QUARTER OF MY LIFE God that was tough to watch. The barrage of free throws and fouls just got so tiresome.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) We still need to send someone down after the game today. Might even be Noesi I guess. Why? -

Well, maybe that means Cooper liked waht he saw in that throwing session. -
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 12:47 PM) Curious about this Hoffman soreness. Chances Theo got to Hoffman and said miss a couple of starts with "soreness" and we'll give you 1-3 money if you get past the Sox? Something tells me the risk/reward there doesn't make much sense. That seems like the kind of thing that would get a guy thrown out of the league.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 06:33 PM) Beckham never played 3B before 2009 and did a great job. He was a SS in college and the minors. Sox moved him to 2B and he is a plus defender there too. Semien right now seems to be the ideal super IF sub. He can play all three positions. There is nothing wrong in todays game to have such aperson. In thje past they were seen as a fillin but today they play an integral role in building a roster. Just so it's stated every time someone says this...no he isn't. He was a plus defender there in 2011 but he has gotten progressively worse there every season. He's at best average, maybe even slightly below average there. He turns the DP well but his range has decreased and he's gotten sloppier. He committed 12 errors at 2b last year while playing only 100 games, making him one of the sloppiest 2b in the league. Just to say it...he had a worse fielding percentage than Dan Uggla!

White Sox claim P Hector Noesi off waivers

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 04:22 PM) I think he's a good pitching coach. I've said that several times. He's just not the pitching god people make him out to be. No one is. Leo Mazzone was a genius in Atlanta. He went to Baltimore, got some bad pitchers got fired and then couldn't get hired. Did Leo Mazzone actually want to find a job after Baltimore? IIRC he only went there because a friend of his was managing. Just to point out... -
Bit of help needed, can someone tell me what the Baron's current starting rotation order is? Beck is set on the 25th, anyone have the other 4 in order?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) I get the feeling we will find out soon. Sox have to make a roster move with the claim of Noesi. Though I would imagine a pitcher would go with this claim. They already sent out a pitcher when they replaced Leesman with Beckham right? So they're already down a pitcher? -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 03:21 PM) Do you really like Nate Jones as a prospect? If so, I defer, but what makes you think he will be adequate to special? I know you guys love stats but Nate truly truly does not pass the eye test. I can't remember too many guys I've deemed eye test failures who ended up good. Hopefully I'm wrong. 1. It's not difficult to be an adequate closer if you're an adequate relief pitcher. 2. Nate throws 95+.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) Yeah but what if that player that walked tripped on his way to first base and Jose Abreu tore his ACL trying to avoid him and the White Sox injected him with horse placenta to try to cure him and he had an allergic reaction and died. Are you trying to tell me that you don't care about Nate Jones inevitably murdering Jose Abreu?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 03:01 PM) I don't know what you guys see in Nate Jones that encourages you. If he's a successful closer I'll be stunned. He's way too wild. Nate Jones walked 26 people in 78 innings last year. Addison Reed, who you believe would save this season, walked 23 people in 71.1 innings last year. If each of them pitched 100 innings, that is a difference of...1 walk.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 02:04 PM) 34% O-Swing! If he keeps that up, I'll fly in to Chicago and have a session on the upper concourse where you guys can all stone me for hating on him so hard. Still waiting for the other shoe to fall, though. Hope he proves me wrong. I'm not calibrated on that number...is that actually good or is that just good relative to what he was doing before?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) Anyone done a trip to Cumberland in KY? We are considering it with a couple of other places for summer trip. Any comments, experiences, or recommendations? I'm about 2 hours away but don't know the area at all. Extremely rural.
