QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 09:18 PM) Where is the NSA campus located? Fort Meade Maryland?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 05:32 PM) I think I just figured out how you prevent tanking in all sports - last place team gets thrown into the volcano. You just got me an NFL contract!

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 04:22 PM) How long do you think it will take the Sox farm system to start producing the talent needed to contend? My guess 3-5 years. Then why on Earth do you think it's a good idea to spend money on a pitcher who will be gone in 4 years?
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 04:10 PM) You're not taking away from Quintana's value if you sign a mid-rotation starter. Would you rather have Jimenez or Santana and say Jason Castro going forward or Quintana? Who will we spend the $13 million on that we're not spending on Jiminez?

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 02:34 PM) If the SOX signed Garza to the contract the Brewers are close to signing him to, I wouldn't be mad. I think Garza would be a nice addition. Do I understand why waiting another year makes sense? Absolutely. But you can never have enough good pitching. Garza (with no draft pick compensation) for $13M per year is not that big of a risk. Now, Santana and Ubaldo are a bit different due to draft pick compensation. No point in the SOX forfeiting that pick when they've had their best draft position in eons, and when considering the overall state of the organization. Like I said in the other thread, the Brewers won 10 more games than the Sox last year and I can't figure out how he makes a lick of sense for the Brewers either.

Apparently GMail is down.

This just needed to appear somewhere.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 10:55 AM) Just know that once you become a gun owner, you'll immediately be considered a crazed vigilante. Also, don't cross paths with Balta. He'll run away in fear that you'll shoot him for no reason. Please note that I respectfully chose not to say anything on that conversation until you decided to be a ****.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 01:19 PM) Not a big deal either way, but... I'd think the time for this would be after, or at earliest during, the 2014 season. After last year's atrocious showing, but balanced against 2012 overachievement, I think 2014 would be the telling factor. I'm left wondering why he took the extension now when he wouldnt' take it after 2012.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 01:17 PM) I see why some don't like it and why some like it. Me personally, I like it because like others have mentioned, it gives stability to the young guys through this rebuild. Remember, we have young guys that are wiling to prove themselves now, now that they finally have a chance to play everyday unlike Rios and Keppinger last year (I think Davidson will start at 3B). Better to extend him than have him go through the season as a lame duck if people actually want him there. But a month on the field that looks like any month last year and I have dibs on the Fire ventura thread.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 12:01 PM) Actually in his chat he said he doesn't write his headlines and he specified he thought Tanaka will be around a top 20-25 starter. Which is very good, but not elite. Scott (Boston) I'm surprised that you would label a top 20-25 pitcher as "elite." Or did someone else write the headline? Klaw (1:22 PM) Writers don't write their own headlines. I am no exception. That offense could make a top 20 starter look a whole lot better if people stay healthy.

At least last season's team earned it for him.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 10:01 AM) He was 8th in the entire NBA in PER last season. He was 10th the season before. The season before that? 8th. Russell Westbrook is oh so much f***ing better than you give him credit for, dude. It's not just me, a lot of people make a big f***ing deal about "Westbrook needing to shoot less" or various incarnations of that statement, particularly in the playoffs...so I think seeing Durant push his scoring up without sacrificing efficiency fits along those lines.

Top White Sox Prospects - 2014 Pre-Season

QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 09:52 AM) I think this is something being undervalued by the fans about our farm system. At this point next year, we have the opportunity to take major steps forward in how our system is evaluated. Having the 3rd pick in the draft, Adolfo's professional career beginning, another summer of increased Latin America spending, where we should conceivably be able to sign 2 highly ranked kids, plus another year of pro ball for the guys we signed when Paddy was hired. There is a burgeoning possibility that our system could be considered middle of the pack by this point next season. We're starting to throw a lot of stuff at the wall, increasing our chances that we'll be able to get some of it to stick. Keep in mind that in terms of how the system is ranked...the latin american spending, Adolfo, and so on, won't really have a chance to make much of a positive impact for probably 3-4 years. Those guys are being signed at 16 and 17, they're years away from making a dent in the national level lists. -
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 10:27 PM) Way to move the goalposts. You asked if they had anyone capable of having that kind of game. No, they're not as efficient as the Heat, but a lot of that is Lebron setting them up. Lebron makes Mario Chalmers look like a useful offensive player. Specifically that efficient was what I meant. I absolutely know Westbrook can drop 40 on a team when he's around...but can he put up those numbers on an efficient number of shots? Yes Lebron could score more, but in the process he'd probably have to take more shots that are less efficient. That's the tradeoff that Durant has to make right now also - his team needs him to score and so it should be impressive that he's managing to keep up a pretty solid efficiency at the same time

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 04:51 PM) 2.) A few people got on me on here recently for b****ing about the unbelievably cold weather that gripped the country for about a month straight. I made a crack about global warming and people attacked me for suggesting it was not real. My question to you then is: "What's with the f***ing 10 below temperatures all over for a month???" They were real and they were here and I froze my ass off and even had to buy long underwear cause I could take it no longer!
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 08:21 AM) And before someone posts that they drive better high than straight then why isn't there a scandal in autoracing calling marijuana a performace enhancing drug? Because it's not true? Not sure I'd exactly believe Steve Howe if he called cocaine a performance enhancing drug either.
-
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 10:22 PM) Are you intentionally being obtuse? They have a guy named Westbrook that's only played 5 fewer games than Wade despite actual knee issues instead of mileage problems. Also, Ibaka averages only 2 fewer PPG than Bosh and Jackson only 2.8. OKC is one of the most talented teams in the league. But are they anywhere near that efficient?
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 09:54 PM) And like with 2k5, I can't talk to you when it comes to the Heat. Your hate is too high. I respect both of you as posters even though we agree on nothing. But you two just can't get over July 8, 2010. I wanted LeBron and Bosh and wouldn't have given two s***s on what other fanbases thought about it. I can't hate because it didn't work out the way I wanted it to. He made the league unwatchable. I've barely watched nba basketball in more than 2 years because of that bs. That's plenty of reason for me to still be pissed.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 10:03 PM) Tonight is a good example. There's like 6 minutes left in this game and LeBron has taken 12 shots. Chris Bosh has taken 20 and is having a great game. That's LeBron and what separates him from past and current greats. He'll scale his game back and let others flourish. Is there anyone on the Thunder ever likely to put up a regular game like that?
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 09:36 PM) Do you really believe LeBron is not capable of 29-30 ppg? That was the whole point of leaving Cleveland. So that he wouldn't have to do that and lead the team in every other category. Durant is spectacular. I'm not hating at all. But he's not LeBron and probably never will be. The question then is how efficient Durant could be if he decided the league was too hard unlesshe had 2 allstars to make things easy for him.

QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 09:28 PM) Not if Avi and Spanky are hitting .300 as well along with Dunnerko with 40 bombs at DH. Playoffs Baby!!!! They could all do that and still win only 85 games if they field the ball as well as last year.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 09:35 PM) If you take your premise to its logical end, Chris Sale should sit out next year. His health is a much bigger risk to the franchise than any contract the Sox can enter into. If you could guarantee me that no one gotten in return would bust you'd be right. But the problem is you can't, in fact if you got 4 guys back you'd assume 2 of them bend it like Beckham. And that's where the risk in moving him comes, which you always ignore.
