  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 11:44 AM) If Hawk is an employee of the White Sox, I believe Selig can actually fire him under the MLB Constitution. MLB Constitution Punitive action against Harrelson is the one thing they could practically do, but seriously, are they going to want the spectre of MLB stepping in and firing a broadcaster for ranting about the umps?
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 11:26 AM) I'm responding from a legal standpoint, which is what I thought you were looking for. In a realistic standpoint, Bud would put pressure on his pal Jerry to make him shut the hell up or be fired. That is basically what happened here. If for whatever reason Hawk continued to do this, and Jerry refused to muzzle him, yes, I imagine Major League Baseball could license the games to another station which would not crack down on the League's umpires in the middle of broadcasts. I'm pretty sure the contract with Comcast runs through something like 2019, and the White Sox happen to be part owners of that network. There's just no realistic way that could go down. They can put pressure on him, but there's nothing they can do other than giving him a good talking to, unless they're willing to fire him or have the right to fine him for on-air comments that aren't offensive but bother the league.
  3. How are they getting Kevin Martin? What are they trading for him? Rose + Pau + Noah + 2 2012 draft picks + Butler is >$50 million in salary commits, leaving ~$5 million under the cap to offer to FA's. Martin is a FA after next year correct, but the Bulls won't have the money to sign him if anyone offers the MLE. They could swap Deng for him pretty readily if the Bulls took on 1 filler player, but then the Rockets would have to want Deng's contract.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 11:22 AM) They could probably refuse to license the ability of Comcast to disseminate the game if he is calling it. Can't tell if serious...will respond as though it was. Yeah, that's right, MLB is going to take a team's games entirely off the air because of a broadcaster disagreement.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 11:17 AM) Oh boy...sounds like that will be the last of his rants... What are they going to do if he goes on another, fire him?
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) Wasn't there some major juror issues? Like, one juror flirting with Edwards in open court? Didn't see that one, but there were some reports of weird questions/etc. from the Jury. Can you add a link?
  7. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 09:43 AM) 25 inning increase is what he was comparing it too. So yes, twice as much. Really, that's how that was meant? Man, that's nearly incomprehensible. Props.
  8. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ May 31, 2012 -> 11:47 PM) I know I've thrown my 2 cents in a few times on the subject but something else popped up now. In my previous 2 posts I mentioned my desire to get back a SF with an expiring contract failing to realize the Bulls already have 2 of them on the team...Korver and Brewer...If they cant make a good trade for Boozer, amnesty him.... Lets say someone signs him for 8 mill so the Bulls save 8 mill, take that 8 plus Korver, Brewer, and CJs 13 mill combined for a total of 21 mill for 2013. That money could give them enough to get a SG like Curry, Ellis,Martin, or Harden should any become free agents and Taj Gibson. Lets say the Pau deal is for Deng, Asik, and Korver or Brewer (maybe future picks as well)....Trade CJ to Golden State for one of their 4 picks, either 30 or 35... Draft John Jenkins and Tony Wroten... Use the MLE on Hinrich, and get a league minimum big for the year. Hinrich/Wroten Rip/Jenkins Brewer/Butler Pau/Taj Noah/ Big Year after that when Rose comes back (I know he might come back late next year) Rose/Wroten Martin/Jenkins (Just used martin as an example) Butler/Rookie (Yes I believe Butler can be a starter in the league) Pau/Taj Noah/Mirotic ...Or somethin like that... That still doesn't work. If the Bulls are sitting there with Noah + Rose + Pau's contracts on the books, they are simply no where near able to offer a free agent contract. Ditto Rose + Noah + Deng Those 3 alone come to $44 million, with the cap being at $56-$58 million. Pau is even worse than Deng in this regard, Pau + Rose is nearly $40 million. Throw in keeping Taj, Butler and anyone else for maybe >$5 million a year, and the Bulls would only have $5 mil or less to offer Martin.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 03:15 AM) Another example of "the Year After Effect." Mark Buehrle threw 170 innings between the majors and minors in 2000. In 2001, he threw 221.1 innings, which is almost twice as much. In 2002, he threw 239 innings, but because his ERA increased, he actually failed Verducci's "Year After Effect" formula because his ERA increased. Mark Buehrle was a good pitcher in 2002. Yet, according to his theory, there is no correlation between the 260 innings Mark Buehrle threw in 2005 and his horrendous pitching in the second half of 2006. Why can't the Year After Effect work for pitchers who are over 25? That's not "Nearly twice as much", that's an increase of 52.1 innings on top of 170. That's 33% more.
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 09:08 AM) I'd love to take a shot with him...even when he does frustrate, he seems to always be able to limit the damage. However, if you need an innings eater, he's probably not your man. Cooper does also have a rep for helping build guys not named Peavy into innings-eaters. How long before Volquez hits FA?
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 09:03 AM) That leaves a million dollars a year, right? There has to be someone out there who takes a chance on that. I'd assume that getting the Cubs to do that would involve giving the Cubs something back at least as useful as Travis Wood.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 08:57 AM) Out of curiosity, can anyone else compare to having two major leaguers out of the 2010 draft already? Let alone a #1/#2 starter and a closer? From the first 10 rounds of this draft (plus supplementals) I count 7 players who have made the big leagues. Josh Spence (LHP, Padres), Drew Smyly, Chance Ruffin, Drew Pomeranz, some dude named Bryce, and the 2 guys for the Sox. The Tigers have 2 players in the bigs from that draft.
  13. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 31, 2012 -> 09:53 PM) Starting to wonder if this year's Jordan Danks = Last year's Alejandro De Aza...as far as this board saying "PROMOTE HIM!!" We don't have a Juan Pierre getting 700 PAs
  14. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 31, 2012 -> 09:35 PM) I haven't. Unless we no longer value Danks as a prospect and future OF for this team, then yeah, severely limit his playing time and improvement by putting him on the Sox bench. Next year that's probably what we do with him, it's hard to see him doing much but striking out a lot of he gets 125 at bats the rest of the year.
  15. I really doubt he'd e able to do any better playing once a week or less.
  16. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 31, 2012 -> 08:25 PM) They won't. The motherf***er of all motherf***ers gets off. Literally, in so many ways. Actually...that's pretty funny. I wish he would go to jail, he should, but the law really is just that pathetically weak.
  17. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 31, 2012 -> 07:10 PM) How long was Morel on DL for, if his bad hitting was really due to bad back and he is back to playing already.. seems like a very quick healer. It'll be 15 days on Saturday.
  18. QUOTE (mataipaepae @ May 31, 2012 -> 07:58 PM) I wonder if the mets would be interested in gavin floyd, jordan danks, nestor molina or simon castro, and a lower level prospect or two for david wright? I like quintana over floyd right now. And weight as the number two hitter would be great. I don't think Id take anything the chisox have in exchange for Wright if I were the Mets other than Sale.
  19. Marcus Jordan tweets a hookup message to a pornstar that seemingly should have been a direct message.
  20. George Brett uses twitter to find missing dog.
  21. Ok, I think I get the gist of this, and it sounds fairly serious if this was able to happen.
  22. LaHair is in the middle of a 6 for 38 stretch going back 2 weeks (.404 OPS over that time).
  23. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 31, 2012 -> 04:06 PM) The NY Super Bowl will be the test. If its a cold game and iconic/money maker, they wont care if the next Super Bowl is played in Anchorage. If the NY Super Bowl suffers due to weather, no way Chicago ever gets it. I personally think that it will do well, but its a hard one to guess, because I can not recall a major football event that has been held on a neutral field in the cold. Even the Big 10 went for Indy, although that was partially due to the nonsense that is involved when you deal with Chicago and the Park District. If the Bears built a 95,000 seat stadium, they'd get a Super Bowl and the teams would be told to like it. They didn't.
