  1. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:43 AM) Nice. I remember hearing that he's under control for a while. That's good news. Do you see the Sox discussing a long-term deal with him anytime soon? By soon, I mean after this season as the earliest. If the Sox were the Rays, they'd be trying to do it right now, not waiting to the end of the season. But that's never been the Sox's way. If they try to do such a thing, their usual pattern is to wait until a guy is closer to arbitration and then pay a little more at that time (See: Alexei Ramirez, multiple pitchers).
  2. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:40 AM) I'm sure this has been answered before, but has Viciedo officially lost his Rookie status for this season? Yes, too many plate appearances to qualify for rookie of the year voting.
  3. I loved, loved, love the 05 regular season. Great pitching, good hitting, power, really exciting games.
  4. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:37 AM) On a side note, what is his contract status? He was originally signed for 4 years, correct? And then I assume there are some option years? He was signed to a "4 year deal" worth $10 million but there was no out clause like Cespedes has. He is fully under White Sox control for the next 5 seasons, with the last 3 or so being arbitration seasons. The Sox will be able to simply "Renew his contract" for the next couple years in the offseason, or they could attempt to sign him to a longer term deal to buy out some FA years. Key part is, we have his rights for 5+ years.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:58 AM) I have no proof, but I don't think he has really gotten a lot of pitches to hit. He seems like he is hitting a lot of bad balls. The one spot he still can't regularly cover is the top of the zone, and he's not good at fouling those pitches off or laying off of them yet...but people aren't just explotiing him up there like they did 2 summers ago. Couple games ago he had a great swing on a pitch up there...only was a single, but he got his bat on top of it and hit a hard grounder. He covers that pitch, and genuinely there's no where in the zone where you can get him out.
  6. 4 runs in 5.1 innings with te way Shields has been throwing is awesome.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2012 -> 08:54 PM) Squeeze? With the guy who hunted into the triple play?
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 29, 2012 -> 07:29 PM) I thought the reason it was controversial was because he expected us to resign him but wouldn't provide us with any access to his medical records... And his refusal to do so screwed us out of type A arb compensation.
  9. QUOTE (Tex @ May 29, 2012 -> 06:26 PM) Players all time delay surgery, refuse surgery, go to their own doctors. Seems rather crazy to think a player should just have done whatever by whomever. But in those cases, keeping the employer informed of the player's decision is always a key step.
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 29, 2012 -> 03:49 PM) Can someone please explain why the Bulls keep getting linked to Pau Gasol in some sort of Deng + extra player package? Why on earth would the Bulls do this? Gasol is Boozer with a slightly better defensive game. No thanks. Apparently this time, Pau's camp brought it up.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2012 -> 04:04 PM) The team he plays for? The team he was under contract with at the time, more specifically.
  12. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ May 29, 2012 -> 03:43 PM) I never got the hatred for Magglio. Sure things got ugly at the end, but a lot more has been forgiven over time in other situations. If he didn't want to be here, I as a fan don't have to hate him for it. I don't want guys who no longer want to be here - I don't believe in imprisoning anyone. Plus, if we're all kind of in agreement that Ozzie wore out his welcome with the organization last year, why is it crazy to consider he and Magglio just wore out their welcome...with each other. My problem in how he left is that he lied to us. He insisted he wanted to come back, then refused to give the Sox a chance to even examine his medical condition.
  13. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 29, 2012 -> 03:41 PM) While we are on the topic of this kind of stuff, I can not STAND when guests come in and refuse to sit where I seat them. I can understand if they want a booth over a table, I can understand if they want a bigger booth over a 2-seater one, and I can understand if they want to sit by the bathroom or sit near a window so they can watch their car/motor cycle. But I can't stand when they don't even ASK if they can have a new seat. Not to sounds racially insensitive, but I work in a town that is about 50% white and 50% minority, and about 90% of the time it's a black person telling me in a ghetto tone "Nahh nahh, we ain't finna sit there. We gone sit right hurr" and will move themselves. Or sometimes they will stop following me and go to their own seat "Yeaaa, uh, we need menus over here, we ain't gunna sit on that side." It's very frustrating. It's funny and a little bit awkward when some of our black servers come up to me and say "Come on man, don't sit me any more black tables, I can't stand them". lol.....umm? Anyway, yeah, pretty much anyone who doesn't have the decency to ask if they can have a new table pisses me off. Do people not understand hosts have a rotation to follow? And when someone gets skipped, the servers b**** at us for skipping them, even if it's not our fault? And then if one section gets triple sat, they get in the weeds and we get blamed? This happens?
  14. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 29, 2012 -> 03:29 PM) Love how Beckham is now a huge mistake when a couple years ago he was a future HOF'er. I hate "analysts" I'd really like to think that if my job involved knowing what was going on in MLB and studying everything, I might have known that Beckham had been on fire the last couple weeks. If nothing else the HR might have caught my eye and suggested that he was taking better swings.
  15. I just hope he was clean. And that's an appropriate first response by me in this thread.
  16. ESPN blog runs "Chris Sale is now one of the AL's best starters" with heat maps from yesterday's outing.
  17. Jared Weaver pulled with a back injury
  18. I worry about what Greg will do when several out of Davey Johnson, don mattingly, dusty baker, and mike matheney beat out Ozzie for that award.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 28, 2012 -> 08:10 PM) Dave Wills pointed this out, that no other team has come close to having the major league impact so far of Reed and Sale at the major league level (from the 2010 draft). Then you add in Viciedo, and if Mitchell had stayed healthy, you'd have four impact players arriving almost simultaneously. And then throw in Beckham (and if he's ever healthy enough, hopefully someday Morel) and the Sox will be getting solid, cost-controlled contributions from their 2008 draft as well. I'll avoid mentioning what happened to the 5th round pick that year.
