  1. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 09:32 AM) I will take a Gold Glove winner, who could hit over 30 Hr's and drive in close to 100 runs Sox any day of the week. Oh as well as steal many bases... And put up a middling .780 OPS because he strikes out a lot and never takes a walk, and who gets paid ~$20-25 million the next 3 years to do so before he is let go. And who stole a whopping 12 bases last year, and who is 44/64 in his career.
  2. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 09:31 AM) If Danks has a huge first half (which is possible), you never know? He started off pretty badly last year. At the same time, he didn't get much run support. I would hold on Danks and try to make deals for TCQ and Thorton. Even if he has a huge first half, how much would that really raise his value? It's a guy who had a huge first half but who is now only available for 2 months and who is going to be even more expensive tos ign.
  3. How about that, FINRA actually shrunk from 2007-2009 also.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 09:17 AM) Declined relative to inflation, means still increased. The SEC's budget outright declined from 2005-2007.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) Seriously? a comparison between Ichiro and Viciedo? Correct. If you want a laughable statement, go to the people complaining about the defensive reads made by a guy playing his first 3 months in the OF. It's just silly. This is why I spent 2 years getting pissed off over every time we'd change Viciedo's position, because if we'd actually had our act together, put him somewhere and let him develop at that spot, we'd actually be able to say a lot more what kind of defender he'd become. Instead, we get lunacy like complaining about Viciedo's defensive reads after his 1st season in the OF, which was also his 3rd position in 3 years.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 08:56 AM) This. His reads were awful. Could they improve? Sure. By how much? No idea. I bet Ichiro's reads weren't very good during the first 3 months he played the OF.
  7. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 09:01 AM) Do you guys believe we would be selling low on Danks at this point? I think trading TCQ would be smart at this point as he has pretty solid value right now. However, would it hurt us to just hold on to Danks until the midway point? If he has a great first half, contenders would likely overpay in attempt to make a playoff run. Yes, I think we'd be selling low on Danks at this point, but there's no reason to think we'll be selling higher on Danks come July.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 12:27 AM) I agree that depth in the regular season, especially a condensed season, will be beneficial. But in the playoffs, when it's time to see LeBron, Wade and Bosh, that depth means next to nothing. Remember, the playoffs are compressed somewhat too.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 09:07 AM) I can't think of a better plan in the world than throwing money at agencies that have consistently failed in the scope of their duties. After all, all of the increased funding has prevented rouge traders and flash crashes over at the SEC and FINRA. After checking, I was actually kinda startled to find out that the SEC's budget declined relative to inflation from 2005-2009 (and therefore declined massively relative to the share of the economy taken up by Wall Street), and last year's budget post Dodd-Frank was the first time the SEC had actually received increased funding. Thankfully nothing weird happened in the markets over that time period, and thankfully the Flash Crash didn't happen during that time period, otherwise one might scoff at your statement.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) Companies still don't vote Only because the Court hasn't had a chance to rule on that yet
  11. QUOTE (Real @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 01:34 AM) This is where we get pretty much nothing for Carlos, and a prospect for Danks that some random scout has high up in the Jays system, whereas everyone else (BP, BA, etc) has said player ranked about 15-20. lol For Carlos, I'd be satisfied with that. Danks, it would be nice to get at least 1 projectible player.
  12. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 12:37 AM) Viciedo will be great on this team as a part time DH/4th OF. I am all about pitching and defense. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 12:47 AM) How are you discrediting Dayan as an OF already? He seemed to do fine in RF after his call-up, and it's assumed he will only improve from here. As a fan of a team who employed Jermaine Dye and Carlos Quentin in RF for the better part of a decade, I am surprised your defensive standards would be so high for a RF, especially one who has a great arm and the potential to be a huge offensive weapon. Viciedo needs to be in the OF until he proves he can't. So far, he hasn't had the chance. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 12:47 AM) I thought the tank had a crazy good arm? QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 12:54 AM) He does. But his range and reads are not very good. He by no means is considered a good defender. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 12:57 AM) I seen him played a lot last year in Charlotte. My defense standards is for every position on the field. Not a big fan of Quentin. So..."Judging the ability of a guy to read a ball in the OF when he's played the OF for 1 season in his life" doesn't strike me as the wisest strategy.
  13. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 01:18 AM) I am hoping that the Sox can make a trade Adam Jones. Right now we have no CF. Adam Jones continues to be a terrible fit for the White Sox in every possible way.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 12:41 AM) That's why I said for now. The Rangers, along with the Rays and Phillies, are the premier organizations in baseball. So if they feel confident in investing such a hefty sum towards a pitcher, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Throwing away stupid money on a player you may not be able to afford is a quick way to go from being a premier organization to being a floundering organization trying to cut payroll.
  15. QUOTE (kev211 @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 10:42 PM) 5 years 94 million. $94.8 million. Basically an average of $19 mil a year.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 10:12 PM) When did the Pacers start turning into actors? Last year in the playoffs.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 08:30 PM) They couldn't have played the Bucks? The Bucks have 2 games against te Twolves.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 08:15 PM) Why are the bulls playing the pacers twice? Dumb scheduling Because its the preseason and it keeps travel down so you don't lose a practice.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 08:06 PM) Don't forget Mr. Walker. It is amusing that the guys like Doyle and Kuhn who actually succeed are always overlooked...by scouts/talent evaluators/front office personnel. How many guys that they overlook/let go actually succeed at the major league level?
  20. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 06:36 PM) When speculators attempt to embellish their speculation with a three-way trade proposal I then believe they are full of manure. I am sure there have been talks with a lot of teams. We just traded santos to Toronto. Last year we made a trade and we signed Rios. We have taken it in the shorts with the Jays as a trading partner and now speculation is we are giving up two more of our better players to Toronto. Well, after those 2 deals they do owe us a few favors...
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 06:21 PM) I think your view of the political situation is far too static. Things are changing rapidly (not necessarily for the better, but, change nonetheless). We'll see. Yeah, the part whehre things are changing for the worse is the part I'm concerned about. In a Citizens United world, now it's so much easier to own 3/4 of Congress.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 05:11 PM) Yes, because of its bastardization. But there wasn't the groundswell behind it then, that there may be now. Different world. If Obama is re-elected, which at this point seems better than 50/50 to happen, I will bet you right now that a stronger or more complete version of it will come up for votes in Congress. Whether or not it passes Congress depends on a lot of things. ObamaCo may also see if they can get it done without Congress, though I am fairly certain that can't work. The only part of this I agree with is that the Pres's odds seem better than 50/50 right now. The Democrats aren't going to push something that hurts Wall street if they somehow get into power, especially with Frank being gone (who would be about the only one who could drive something like that). And the Republicans aren't going to bring anything even resembling a strong bill that would limit Wall Street's activities.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) Hasn't Volcker disowned whatever bastardized version of his rule was included in Dodd-Frank? Yes
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) 6. One thing that WOULD have prevented this, is the Volcker Rule. I'll bet that rule is in place within 2 years in some form. (will resume sniping once I stop laughing).
  25. That's a nice benefit, to be able to be loaded up on highly processed non-nutritional foods for a few days.
