  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 06:20 PM) Straight up? We'd be getting hosed. Alonso has upside but he has a lot of flaws (I'd flip Gordon for Alonso; Reds probably wouldn't since Gordon has struggled at the major league level, but neither are can't miss talents). Plus the Sox don't currently have any need at 1B. Would be an awful trade. If we got Volquez as well, I'd have considered it. Grandall and Volquez and I'd have been all over it. Although I assume EV is a free agent soon. Yeah, that'd be getting close to getting hosed, but Hell, right now I really don't think we're getting better than that, and IMO we already threw in the towel on this season when we gave away Santos for scraps.
  2. Joe Paterno's testimony to the grand jury was read aloud in court yesterday.
  3. Pistons extend Stuckey Jeff Green (Celtics) is now scheduled for a heart surgery in a couple weeks (non life threatening) but he'll miss the entire year.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 06:17 PM) Oh and if we traded Danks for Alonso I'd have been pissed. We wouldn't have gotten all of this for Danks though, Latos is a better talent and cost controlled. I would have taken that deal.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 06:12 PM) They'll do it if they have to in order to replace Wilson with a proven SP. Of course, they'll probably just promote from within... They're already moving Feliz to the rotation officially.

  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 06:09 PM) If Danks would agree to a deal in order to be dealt, just imagine what a team like the Rangers could send back to the Sox for him. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...lb&c_id=mlb The Rangers didn't make 2 world series in a row by giving up crazy deals.
  8. QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 04:54 PM) Classic trap game unfolding for IU. Notre Dame has something to prove after a dreadful start to the season and IU is coming off its biggest win in years. Good to see the local kid Dragicevich doing well. Having that full week off to refocus probably helps.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 06:07 PM) Honesly, Howard is a DH in the making. He has massive power, but not much else. The Phils need a guy who plays better D at 1st and Ks less. Jim Thome work?
  10. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) With deals like this, I am hoping KW trades pretty much everyone on the Sox, to bring some fresh young talent. Konerko is an amazing player but want to see him traded as well. KW needs to build the Sox for 2014 and beyond. I can't believe the Sox would get a price anything like this for our guys. Hell, if the Reds thought this was a good move, KW had to be asking for the moon for Danks also
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) Then they shouldn't make a trade for the sake of making a trade. Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Humber, Sale is a major league rotation that can win if everything goes right. If they have a rotation with Axelrod and Stewart, they're not winning. They worry about attendance so why not at least sell a little hope with a pretty good rotation and see where they are in June/July. Then trading Sergio is a firing offense.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 06:03 PM) Yeah, this is one of the worst trades I can recall. Can't believe they gave up so much for Latos. Padres should be thrilled with what they got. How much are we asking for Danks if the Reds looked at their options and thought this was a good move?
  13. Doesn't exactly make them better, but with Howard out, they couldn't afford to get worse.
  14. Holy Hell, we'd have taken 1 of those 3 guys for Danks.
  15. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) The show has average ratings. But its not unusual for companies who have scheduled their ad buys months in advance not to make any more ad purchasing decisions in the last month of the year.At least in the ohter thread, someone was insisting that the show was fairly low rated and that its ratings were plummeting.
  16. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 10:34 AM) A lot of the list of people who have pulled those ads are incorrect. The list includes people who purchased schedules that have run its course - not people who have pulled their ads. And "Choosing not to continue buying ads on a show with low ratings" is not an unusual business decision either.
  17. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 10:07 AM) I get that. But, there's a way it can be done and maintain the same profit levels. Then everyone gets what they want. Except the government. And there's why it will really never change. My issue is...the thing the government should want is "the best possible health care outcome for the country", which also includes the subsection "Not having people who can't access the system". Any system which leaves people out to dry is a failure from the start. What it winds up being of course is that the government just protects the entrenched interests who own themselves the best lobbyists.
  18. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 01:40 AM) Does everyone that makes these lists need reminding that the organization also includes a former Baseball America #4 & #5 ranked player from the Marlins? Martinez and especially Marinez are at least in the Sox top 10. But then those guys went to the White Sox. That's an immediate downgrade.
  19. Kobe Bryant's wife Vanessa is divorcing him
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) The only direction that's logical for a FA is trading Thornton and then replacing him with another "journeyman" type in the realm of Arthur Rhodes or Darren Oliver. Don't trust Ohman at all as the primary LH guy in late inning, pressure situations. We'll find out quickly enough if they want to waste a year of Santiago's development as a starter to make him the 2nd lefty in the pen. Do people really think Santiago is a starter candidate?
  21. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 07:59 PM) Lowe's should have said that was the reason. "Yea, ratings weren't high enough. So we didn't want to advertise during that time slot" honesty is not always the best policy But then they wouldn't get the positive press from joining in the Muslim hating.
  22. No one wants to. That would break the game.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 07:30 PM) Wasn't Martinez cheaper than Dunn? 4/48 for Martinez I believe, 4/56 for Done.
  24. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 16, 2011 -> 06:04 PM) I don't know when you heard about it or not...but two days AFTER the Lowes story broke, the show aired and the ratings went down, they didn't benefit from any news of it. How that has anything to do with what you're saying, I'm not sure. I'm not saying as the story gains tons of momentum it may or may not see a short term spike...I'm simply saying that thus far, it hasn't really helped it. And based on the comments in this thread of the show, I hope it doesn't...because it sounds like another stupid reality TV show the world can do without. Because there's an enormous difference between "Lowe's actually taking the step" and "People actually hearing about the step". It is fairly difficult for people to react to something they haven't heard about.
