QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) Give me some examples... I'm still waiting on definitive proof that pitchers parks are a good way to win championships.

QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 10:03 AM) Didn't Dunn also come out of the gate tearing the cover off the ball? He started to "Kenny", after he had his surgery.. I wondered if that had something to do with this season. For what, 1 game?

Oh, you're referring just to the "American Jobs Act". The giant defense cuts happen if/when the "Supercommittee" can't agree on anything. I'm lumping it all together right now, especially when you say that you want no new tax or spending plans.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:54 AM) I don't think that number is right. Which team am I missing? The Nats/Expos? Probably, makes it 5 then. Same standard for them though.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) I also want to go on record as saying I hope both sides stick to their guns and nothing gets done on that plan. No tax cuts, no new spending plans etc. I hope no one compromises and it goes down in flames. You do realize that if it goes down in flames, there are huge defense cuts unless Congress can agree on voting them away?

Cooper and/or Ozzie status could affect MB coming back next year
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:50 AM) so are you trying to say that dunn sucked this year because he was playing for ozzie?? Personally, I seriously wonder if Ozzie gave it real easy to Dunn in ST, because Ozzie always thinks that a veteran never needs a push to get himself in shape or ready. Ozzie always says that his veterans know what they need to do.

2011 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:39 AM) The same cycle of teams loses every single year. Of course, this is simply untrue. There are exactly 4 teams in MLB that have failed to make the playoffs in the last decade...2 of them I actually have some sympathy for, the Blue Jays and the Orioles, because of what they have to compete with...but it's been made clear over the past 4 years that you can build a winner in that division despite the Yankees and Red Sox with decent management. The same teams lose each year because 2 of them are trapped behind the Yankees/Red Sox and haven't been smart enough to manage their way out of it, and 2 of them have done a horrible job of drafting, developing, and trading for the better part of 2 decades.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:31 AM) Because something like 10 teams every year can't. GMAFB man...the team with what was it, the 28th highest salary in MLB made the WS last year after filing for bankruptcy, and then lost to a team that was #10 in salary.

Cooper and/or Ozzie status could affect MB coming back next year
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:31 AM) Can you give me an actually question? Can you establish beyond any sort of doubt that a pitchers park helps a team build a winner? Thinking back over the last decade, you've got teams like the Yankees, Phillies, and Red Sox with hitters parks, the Rangers have become a winner with a hitters park, the White Sox won in a hitters park, the Rockies had a WS appearance, the Diamondbacks have a WS win, the Astros had a WS appearance, the Twins had a ton of playoff appearances while in a hitters park, switched to a pitchers' park, and still made the playoffs. You said it's 100% certain that a pitchers park helps build a winner, but if that were true, then we'd have a lot more pitchers parks.

Ozzie is leaving on a jetplane
Edit: here's exactly what happened with Pinella. The Rays wanted to let him go but they didn't want to pay him the full $4.4 million. Pinella wanted out but wanted to be able to manage again. As long as he was under contract with the Rays, he couldn't manage anywhere else, so the 2 sides arranged to a buyout, and if Pinella coached again the next year, then the Rays recouped a larger amount of money. The Sox own Ozzie's rights unless Ozzie can negotiate them away.

Ozzie is leaving on a jetplane
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:30 AM) It is true. If they fire him, they no longer own his rights. Then they wouldn't be paying him. This is why, for example, Lou Pinella kept winding up in the broadcast booth after being fired. He couldn't coach unless he negotiated a buyout with his previous team.

QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:30 AM) But, there is allot of bad money on that team as well. They also have a great pitchers park, which history has proven is easier to build a winner. Huh?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:29 AM) The wins are concentrated at the top of of the league. That doesn't sound like much of a distribution to me. As long as teams can move in and out...who cares?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:04 AM) History proves me out. Who is the last team to do a complete strip down and recover in a couple of year span? I think it's the Giants.

Ozzie is leaving on a jetplane
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:07 AM) That depends. if the Sox fire him, he is a FA. If Ozzie quits then we own his rights for that year. I actually don't think this is true. If the Sox fire him...the Sox are still paying him for that year. That's the key point...the Sox own his managing rights as long as the Sox are paying him.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 07:01 AM) A young oline playing in that environment was not going to be good and than to make matters worse you have no Bennett or Williams for the good chunk/all of the game. Than you lose Carimi as well. This game had ugly written all over it. To be frank, I expect our line to be a lot better by seasons end and think it is better than last years. The Bears line isn't as bad as it was during this game. I will say this. Jay looked flustered in the pocket but he also didn't make any dumb throws (maybe one I saw all day) from the perspective of TO's. Additionally, he was killed with some costly wide-out drops and there were some times where as soon as it looked like he had someone to throw to, he couldn't get the damn ball off cause he was getting crushed. All that said, the long TD was inexcuseable in the cover 2 and that sack with the fumble was as well (Cutler had what...2.5 seconds). That was a collosal failure to block and killed the momentum we had built up (heck, the offense looked like it was getting into rhythm with 2 straight field goals). I still will defend the roster construction some, but I have to look at playcalling here. This is just an inexcusable stat. Martz ran less than he did in the worst of the worst games for his Kutler-cilling efforts last year.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 02:01 AM) I know people in our society think of dogs very highly. But IMO, the well being of a human being is exponentially more important. Vick paid his dues, people shouldn't be wishing harm upon him anymore, doing so just makes you out to be less humane. "Wishing him to lose a football game in the city where he disgraced himself" ≠ wishing harm upon him.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:09 AM) The difference between the top and bottom of the leagues just keeps getting wider. ? But won't we have like 4 different playoff teams from last year? The Yankees, Rangers, Phillies, and Braves repeat, the Reds, Giants, Twins, and Rays step out? That's a lot more upward mobility than there is in the U.S. economy.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 18, 2011 -> 06:27 PM) Most of the difference is the O-line. If what happened today continues for the rest of the season, Angelo should be fired for not addressing the O-line correctly. To be a little fair, they're now down their entire starting right side. This Bears team is officially "Banged up" going into Green Bay.
