Ozzie is leaving on a jetplane
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 05:36 PM) It's quite simple. I don't see how anybody can call him a "piece of trash manager" when he led a CHICAGO team to a WS. When I see outlandish s*** like that, I feel like saying something in support of Oz. You can say he lost the team but he's not a piece of trash manager. I mean he's been in Chicago longer than most managers/coaches stay with their teams. Change is coming but if he was total trash Florida wouldn't be ready to sign him for four years. about 90% of this post I was ready to sit there and say, wow, this all makes sense. But you couldn't resist. You had to throw something in that made the post unable to respect. You just had to.

Chapter 151: the future (6:10pm, CSN)
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 05:33 PM) Not much 3B inventory available right now. And CQ certainly wouldn't net one in return, anyway. Not one with more potential than Morel and a full year of MLB development under his belt.

2011 Films Thread
Señor Spielbergo will release Raiders and ET on Blu-Ray with changes that he previously made for the DVD versions undone. Lucas supposedly has added another "embellishment" to the Blu-ray star wars versions, with the Emperor yelling "Nooooo" as he falls to his death. Sigh.

Chapter 151: the future (6:10pm, CSN)
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 01:13 PM) Nice to see Morel find power, but I've got to believe that if there was any semblance of meaning left in the games the Sox play (there hasn't been for quite some time now) his power would still be a myth. That first Detroit sweep took a lot of pressure off this team. Since they've been losing wholesale for the last few weeks...doesn't that mean that they're playing worse with no pressure on?

Financial News
Consider this a question for the experts of not only how the trader pulled this off, but why the trader wouldn't actually hedge against the losses? Link. Worth noting that the article says this has happened before at a different facility but that it seems no one reacted to it happening before? The cynical part of me thinks that there are traders in these institutions who do exactly this...make risky trades and then cover up the potential losses if things go bad...then both the company and the trader look the other way or make a fortune if everything goes well. Especially if this is something that has happened before at a different institution. I'd like to know why I should not listen to that cynical voice.

The Democrat Thread
Michigan House bans all benefits for domestic partners, Michigan state senate is likely to follow suit, and Michigan has a republican governor. Here's the bigoted jackass who sponsors the bill commenting on it. The law would also prohibit cities and universities from offering Domestic Partner benefits, which may not even be legal and has little to do with the State budget, but hey, if a university employs a homosexual faculty member, Jesus kills a kitten.

Cooper and/or Ozzie status could affect MB coming back next year
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) I want Quentin and Danks (and others) gone regardless. I want Buehrle back (at the right price). For once, I can agree with that.

Cooper and/or Ozzie status could affect MB coming back next year
That $88 is also before $6 million or so for 12 minimum salary peoples. So, add in those guys and $10 million for Mark and we're pretty much at $105 million if we were to drop Quentin and Danks and not sign anyone else.

Cooper and/or Ozzie status could affect MB coming back next year
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 11:43 AM) Absolutely. I want those guys gone if Buehrle leaves. This team isn't good enough to keep together. So, you kinda missed the point...keeping Buehrle probably requires moving them. I get that if buehrle leaves you want them gone, but if keeping Buehrle requires trading them...what then?

QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 11:41 AM) I don't follow the Marlins. Would they have room for Rios? If so, Ozzie and Rios, for nothing in return as long as the Sox don't pick up any salary. No.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 11:02 PM) Alex Gordon is making Dayton Moore look really stupid for keeping him down in the minors for the majority of the past two seasons. That guy can play. Simply disagree. That guy was not going to be an effective player for the last 2 years. He'd have looked like Beckham.

Cooper and/or Ozzie status could affect MB coming back next year
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 11:30 AM) Was a typical Buehrle year. Given what he means to the fan base and the outlook for the pitching staff over the next 2 years his 190+ innings would be a nice stabilizer as they rebuild the staff. 2y/$20M? It's all about what the total salary is. If we have to drop below $110 million, 2/$20 requires trading Quentin and Danks. U up for that?

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) He was never on the DL. Do you really know that little about this sport where you don't know that guys are tired, beat up, and in worse shape at the end of a season? Joe Credence would lose like 20 lbs every year because he wouldn't have time to lift during the year.
