We’ve legitimately talked about not pushing him too hard. He’s not throwing 140 pitches to go 9. Was terrible last time out, get him out on a high note now and take it a little easy.- 8/12 Gamethread: Tigers @ Sox, Norris v. Kopech
Who do they even have healthy enough to play? Sheets?- 8/12 Gamethread: Tigers @ Sox, Norris v. Kopech
Guy is 1 out from a win chance and Hinch pulls him because there’s now a RISP and I can’t fathom the white sox’s manager ever having the balls to do that.- Injuries - They need to be fired
I'll be honest, that website is proprietary, so since I don't pay for their results I can't see the algorithm. I think of it as a guidepost to go along with the raw numbers at spotrac. However...someone like Crochet, a reliever, isn't going to count as a huge WAR loss anyway. I could see Lynn being underestimated if you think "Lynn would be a 5 WAR pitcher if he never got hurt", but he's been worthless since he came back. I don't know how they deal with that. I would have to say that Eloy probably doesn't count as a big loss because he's been pretty bad for 2 years now.- Fernando Tatis suspended 80 Games for PEDs

Checking some of my favorite lists, I predicted at the start of the season the White Sox would be in the top 3 or something like that in terms of days spent on the IL this season. As of right now, they're 13th - almost average. Notable teams that have had more IL usage than us include the Cubs, Red Sox, Twins, Rays, Dodgers, Tigers, Padres, and Phillies. There is some concentration of their IL time amongst guys who are highly paid - they are 8th in terms of dollars paid to IL players (the Red Sox are dominating this list). However, since they're 7th overall in payroll, this doesn't seem excessive either. But oh, they've certainly lost more key guys than any of these teams right? So they've lost tons of WAR? Well, here's a week old version of that using a "lost-WAR" metric, that could of course be calculated a couple ways for guys like Crochet who have been out for the season. The important detail there - the White Sox's lost WAR is tiny compared to many of the teams ahead of them, including Minnesota. They are in the bottom 10 for how impactful injuries have been by that standard. Overall, they're sort of middle of the pack in terms of number of injuries and impact of those injuries based on how guys have performed when they were here. They're substantially healthier overall than I predicted during the year. The idea that injuries have been a major factor in the White Sox hanging at .500 but the teams ahead of them have been healthier is inconsistent with most available data. The only way to make this look different is to imagine that when other teams have injuries, their players come back at 100%, while the White Sox have had guys go out and come back who no longer contribute like they did before their injury, so somehow the injuries are more impactful than what has been shown here. But of course, if that was the case for multiple people, that is telling you something else about how you're treating the players, perhaps you are bringing guys back too early or without enough rehab time.- 8/12 Gamethread: Tigers @ Sox, Norris v. Kopech
4/7 out of them then, thanks. Didna check that schedule specifically enough. They needed to go 5-2 against the Royals and Tigers and have already lost 3 games there. Blah.- 8/12 Gamethread: Tigers @ Sox, Norris v. Kopech
This seems like about the time when they'll take 4/6 from Detroit and Houston, and then follow that up by losing 2/3 to Cleveland, thus winding up still a few games back and yet only 1 game above .500.- 8/11- Chicago White Sox @ Kansas City Royals - 1:10 PM CDT NBCSCH
Do not forget that the owner has to approve any interviews you get with any other team.- Boycott time (respectfully)
I find it interesting how different Brooks’s message in this thread sounds from their November 2020 replies.- 8/11- Chicago White Sox @ Kansas City Royals - 1:10 PM CDT NBCSCH
These guys decided they didn’t need to search for a manager, conducted a faux interview with Willie Harris to check the box of interviewing a minority (same thing got the NFL sued), and then sat in front of press folks announcing the LaRussa hire knowing he recently had a DUI and conveniently leaving that out (lie of omission) because that’s a crime that shouldn’t matter for someone this important. You think they believe they owe you anything? They think you owe them money for this post.- 8/11- Chicago White Sox @ Kansas City Royals - 1:10 PM CDT NBCSCH
Depends on what they did it for. “If you demote me I will leave” is an extremely solid justification in any business - the owner took away a key authority he needed to do his job effectively. If I were an owner, leaving in response to that would make me more positive about him, not less. Businesses that hire yes men don’t usually succeed.- 8/11- Chicago White Sox @ Kansas City Royals - 1:10 PM CDT NBCSCH
Like I've said before...what would have done more damage to his reputation around baseball - resigning (or at least interviewing for other jobs) after the owner took away what was supposed to be a fundamental and important power of the GM, or hanging out here for 2 more years while the team completely collapses under the manager he didn't want? 2 years ago I'd have hired him to be my GM if I was the owner of any number of teams. Now that all this has happened, why on Earth would I want this guy anywhere near my organization? If ending his baseball career is the worry, if he gets canned to save LaRussa's job this offseason, that will be the exact end result of his toadying.- 8/11- Chicago White Sox @ Kansas City Royals - 1:10 PM CDT NBCSCH
The right answer is "I am the general manager of this baseball team. They are a billion dollar business with a revenue in the hundreds of millions of dollars per year. I am going to conduct a professional search interviewing a large number of candidates because that is my job and that is the only fitting way to handle a business like this one. If you are taking the power away from me to run this team in a professional manner then you will need to find a general manager willing to accept that restriction because I cannot as that restriction means I am no longer the general manager in anything other than name only. Either you must drop that restriction or I will tender my resignation."- 8/11- Chicago White Sox @ Kansas City Royals - 1:10 PM CDT NBCSCH
I would admit to being a little disappointed if they hired Cairo as they'd be hiring someone from wtihin the organization again. But my biggest question would be about the process. Did the new GM actually get to conduct a search with interviews? Did they interview a large group of people, with significant diversity in experience and in style? Did they conduct second interviews? Are they serious about doing this correctly and Cairo actually had a really great plan and got along well with the new GM, or are they trying to be cheap by staying internal again and slacking off out of doing any hard work?- 8/11- Chicago White Sox @ Kansas City Royals - 1:10 PM CDT NBCSCH
Apparently this is the 3rd game this season where the White Sox have had a bases loaded, 0 out situation and come up with 0 runs.- 8/11- Chicago White Sox @ Kansas City Royals - 1:10 PM CDT NBCSCH
They're 16 games through perhaps their easiest stretch of the season. They've gone 8-8 during that stretch and are still stuck at .500. They only back into the playoffs if 2 different teams fall below .500, which seems unlikely.- 8/11- Chicago White Sox @ Kansas City Royals - 1:10 PM CDT NBCSCH
lightheadedness for Joe Kelly- 8/11- Chicago White Sox @ Kansas City Royals - 1:10 PM CDT NBCSCH
Coming into today 47% of his inherited runneres had scored this season. His career number is 48%.- 8/11- Chicago White Sox @ Kansas City Royals - 1:10 PM CDT NBCSCH
How about this - Rick Hahn is not the worst player acquisition person making decisions in the white sox organization?- 8/11- Chicago White Sox @ Kansas City Royals - 1:10 PM CDT NBCSCH
Guys, I'm starting to think Joe Kelly might not put the White Sox over the top.- 8/11- Chicago White Sox @ Kansas City Royals - 1:10 PM CDT NBCSCH
Ok offense. 2 runs through 6 innings and you will have the lead.- 8/10 at KC - Cueto vs. Bubic (7:10 start)
Lambert has been everything we could ask him to be. I certainly can’t complain about using him in close games. - 2022 MLB catch all thread
