  1. So lefty on the mound and guy at 2b has 25 steals, so you run?
  2. If the Braves are willing to give $16 million to Jansen, there are teams that would take Hendriks on. I just don’t envision a big time return.
  3. Hendriks would be challenging to trade. Only a handful of teams are willing to spend that money on a closer and his contract is weirdly structured so that his luxury tax number is much higher than his contract thanks to Ricky’s creative options. He is certainly movable but may not bring the return you’d want, nothing that makes the white Sox dramatically better.
  4. 6 for 17 with RIsP yesterday, 2 for 10 today. 8 for 27 is still hitting .296.
  5. OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD I WAS TRYING TO SHOP DISHWASHERS WHY WHY WHY
  6. They said they’re saving him for when Martin pitches, presumably tomorrow, since they’ve worked together before. But yes, this is a lot of work for Zavala.
  7. They’re not going to be eliminated until that last week if it does happen. Cleveland would have to go on a run to make that happen, and they’ve shown no signs of sustaining one either. Right now, the most likely scenario is they maintain a tolerable lead, maybe even one that narrows a bit, and then clinch things while the White Sox and Twins are playing each other in two series in the last 10 days.
  8. For guys who have pitched 100+ innings, the largest "underperform" between ERA and expected ERA in baseball are Lucas Giolito and Hunter Green. If you flip to FIP, Giolito is still high, But Patrick Corbin and his 6.81 ERA win that round because his FIP is in the 4s. The biggest overperformer in baseball based on FIP and 2nd biggest overperformer based on xERA is one Johnny Cueto.
  9. You know what you're right, I missed the update in late July while moving. Apparently the QO system is back as it was during the last CBA and the deadline for an international draft deal fell through. My bad.
  10. I just gotta write this before we move on. 7/17 with RISP tonight. That’s a .411 batting average. 5 runs scored.
  11. Opening Day is in Houston??? Well ain't that some s***. I'll have to get tickets to that if they change managers. Never been to a true opening day.
  12. "Hahn drafted Madrigal #4 overall and traded him away before he became terrible. This sequence of moves is a positive for Rick Hahn." does seem like it's kinda ignoring part of the story, doesn't it?
  13. The White Sox have been at or near the top of the league in record in close games pretty much all of 2022, you're right that's one thing that has kept them afloat above .500. https://www.teamrankings.com/mlb/stat/win-pct-close-games?date=2022-08-24 However, the top 5 teams this year are Houston, Atlanta, ChiSox, NY Mets, San Diego. The top 5 teams in '21 were the Giants, Yankees, Seattle, St. Louis, and Boston. The Dodgers, Yankees, and Mariners were all top 10 two years in a row, but that amount of repetition should happen just by chance. This amount of turnover suggests to me that even if your team has a good bullpen, this is a stat that over time turns out very close to being a tossup, and if you've been doing well in this stat for one long stretch, you should expect that over the course of >1 season, that performance will not hold up.
  14. I would be generally skeptical on guys who were so directly involved in the Astros cheating scandal, but I would still say the same thing I've been saying since 2020 - act like a billion dollar business, conduct a series of in depth interviews, and then pick the best fit for the organization based on those discussions, and if that turns out to be a Beltran then go for it and we'll judge the performance on the field.
  15. Something worth noting - the White Sox have a ballpark that is generally more conducive to offense than either Cleveland or Seattle. So, if you look at OPS, the White Sox are tied with the Guardians and Mariners. However, if you look at OPS+ which contains a ballpark adjustment for the slugging - the White Sox fall clearly behind those teams. In fact...the White Sox are tied for 20th with the Orioles in OPS+. Here's the kicker...no team worse than them is over .500. So their offense is basically "bare minimum for a team to be at .500".
  16. The White Sox also traded Omar Narvaez for a closer who cost them over $10 million in '19-20. While he's been hurt for some time this year, Narvaez has been worth 6.4 fWAR since the White Sox traded him. Since then, the White Sox added Grandal who has been worth 4.7 fWAR in the 3 years after being signed - but he's also being paid $18.25 million for it. Although 2020 messed with the totals and Narvaez would probably have not performed as well without the trades due to the quality of White Sox coaching (grumble), basically this one trade added $80 million to the White Sox's payroll, and it seems likely the gap between the two catchers will widen in coming years. While you address several guys not being useful after being traded, you also skipped the money that the White Sox took on in those deals. Mazara - took on Money. Cesar - took on money as well. Kimbrel - took on a ton of money and then doubled down on it.
