  1. Hendriks has the 7th highest save percentage in baseball by my count among regular closers, 28 and 4. Ironically, if he had saved 2 of those 4 games, he’d be tied with Clase for best in baseball. He also has an identical win/loss record to Clase as well. So yeah, that’s probably 1 more BS than we are paying him for, but he does get used in some odd situations as we saw this week.
  2. Come on guys. I agree with half of this, but the idea that you could save money by trading Grandal? Not happening. You want him off the roster you designate him for assignment and pay the entire last year on his deal. If you could trade him and sign Narvaez with savings I’d jump at that, it’s completely unbelievable.
  3. Please continue to ignore the “for a couple prospects” part. Obviously when I said that I meant no actual prospects when I said “prospects”. That is a way you could clear a contract like that and you know it.
  4. And then he complains to the boss and everything he asks for happens.
  5. Harrison, Velasquez, and Andrus are free agents at the end of the season. The only reason to DFA them now is that you need to use the roster spot for someone else. And hell, no one’s healthy anyway. No reason to do that. Moving Hendriks makes the white Sox worse next year, all it does is save money. I don’t really care about saving Reinsdorf money. If a move doesn’t make the white Sox better long term or short term why do it? Giolito has a solid chance of being better next year than this. He’s not going to be overpaid next year because he’s still in arbitration, and if you’re moving him for scraps, why not hold him to the deadline and see if he’s worth more? It’s not like he’s blocking a set of starting pitchers who are ready to come to the big leagues, if they move him they will be spending his money on a Quintana or someone like that this offseason anyway. If the return is a pittance, might as well hold onto the guy and try a new coaching staff.
  6. Because obviously that’s the entire trade. GMAB.
  7. The last time they were 2 games under was July 13. They’ve undone a month and a half of slowly clawing their way upwards.
  8. Difference between the 99 win team they should have been at this point in a rebuild and the 89 win team they are on paper? Rick Hahn. Difference between the 89 win team they are on paper and the 79 win pace they’re on right now? Coaching staff.
  9. As weak as the AL Central has been they still should have won their division. This is where the “how many guys are dramatically worse than they should have been” comes in. Some of these flops were easily foreseen (Kelly, seriously Wtf are you signing an already injured pitcher for), some of them are bad timing or bad luck (Grandal maybe) but some of this shit is on the coaching staff. Robert and Moncada’s constant injuries. Guys going the other way rather than pulling the ball. Moncada’s sudden shift into a bloop single hitter. The 1-2 count intentional walks. The week where the whole infield forgot how to play defense and still no one knows what the hell was going on.
  10. It wasn’t stunned outrage though right? It was “this is good and I’m stunned they got it done”.
  11. Who do we think is taking on any portion of those deals? They are candidates to be designated for assignment, meaning the white Sox would pay their full contract and another team would get them for the league minimum. The only way you get salary relief with guys like that is by attaching something of value with them. Cease + Pollock for a couple prospects next summer, or Montgomery + Pollock + Leury for a small return. Alternatively, you could take back a comparably bad deal from someone else. Just make sure the guy doesn’t have an extra player option, like the white Sox did the last time they did a deal like that - Kimbrel for Pollock.
  12. I would say that lots of people on this page had Grandal as a target over roughly a 2 year period. The signing came about surprisingly but the fit was quite clear.
  13. That’s a high quality printed banner. Someone put effort into that.
  14. Ryan Raburn was way more obnoxious. He was bad against everyone else and he was destroying the Sox for no explicable reason in 15 and 16 while Ricky was insisting he did a great job putting together a competitive team.
  15. Even if they did, they clearly weren’t willing to put enough on the table to meet Cueto’s price until they had no choice.
  16. I would like to remind that had Lance Lynn not gotten injured in spring training the white Sox do not sign Cueto.
  17. Do we actually get Martin and the kid behind the plate whose name I don’t know because he hasn’t played all week tonight?
  18. Something we call the worst possible strategy in August? I mean you basically just guaranteed it. You can bump this if it doesn’t happen!
  19. You realize I have to save this post for next March now, right?
