  1. You do have to admit that going from elite exit velocity to bottom of the league in like two years is somewhat uncommon.
  2. Try saying it this way - he doesn’t have to be the only problem, but it’s consistent enough across multiple people and even franchises for this hitting coach that clearly he is a systematic factor contributing to all of them.
  3. As much as we might want to say “this isn’t the hitting coach”, all of them seem to have the same issue. Getting hits, slapping the ball the other way, not taking walks, and not driving the ball.
  4. The other big part of this is that somehow they forgot how to take walks. I cannot explain that, even Abreu got better at that
  5. The Os also had a solid approach set up against the Slider tonight, so credit to their hitting coach.
  6. Did the duplicate post actually say more runners left on base? If so you shoulda just left the duplicate it probably happened again.
  7. Baffling. It will be the damndest turnaround I will have ever seen in professional baseball. At least the 06 Cardinals were a 100 win team the year before that was missing several all stars the whole year due to injury, and on top of that they didn't have to go through the extra Wild Card round. Maybe one of the 6th seeds that won the Super Bowl could compare (Green Bay and Pittsburgh). Maybe the LA Kings winning the Stanley Cup as an 8th seed.
  8. I believe the short answer is that it would take an act of Congress to change the rules like that. For some reason, Congress has previously given the president power to forgive large chunks of student loans without consulting Congress. Thus, the President can do this with a stroke of his pen. Changing the payback rules in a way like that might be more fair, as could any number of other paths to improve the student loan issue, but anything other than a large loan forgivement requires a Senate Supermajority to accomplish, which will not happen under this Congress.
  9. No, clearly something was wrong. He and the trainers went out. Kopech was almost certainly going on the IL for a short stretch after that happened. Except in the eyes of LaRussa, who still sent him out to pitch and only then after 20 below average pitches clearly hampered by injury did he pull him. So yes, he was going to the IL anyway. But, that also gave up 4 runs and lost a game against the Royals. It's a good thing they're not in a pennant race, because that would be a pretty awful way to throw away a game, putting a pitcher out there who was hurt rather than overruling him.
  10. See the edits. Martin has been sent down 5 times, so unless there's some exception I don't know about, they can't call him up without keeping him up the rest of the year.
  11. It's a complete shame that the White Sox employ no doctors. Nor any experts in pitching mechanics or any other physical processes.
  12. Aren't there limits to how often Martin and Banks can be moved up and down? Are either of them close to that? Edit: here's the rule text: https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/minor-league-options Martin has been up for 1 outing in April, 1 stretch in June, July 12, July 29, and August 9. He's been called up and down 5 times. Unless there's an exception for double headers, they can't call him up and send him down again without having him go through waivers.
  13. Just for reference, Kopech is currently at 110 innings on the season. A not unreasonable goal for him this year was in the range of 125-130, so it would be nice to be able to get 3 or 4 more starts from him on the year.
  14. And since Michael Kopech is the manager, he gets the final say over such things.
  15. Even the Forbes numbers only help you so much with the White Sox since Reinsdorf has other businesses that don’t get counted, aren’t the parking lots owned as a separate business? Regardless though, top 6-7 in the league is legitimately a high payroll for the white Sox. If they’re winning and growing their fan base I would believe it’s supportable, but if they have a serious sales drop next year from not selling playoff tickets, it will leave them in a tough place. This franchise can support a high payroll thanks to the sweetheart stadium deal, but the limits are real. The # 17th team in attendance sporting a top 10 payroll is going to be tough and can only last for a few years. They saved money during the rebuild and were very profitable, but there are limits. They were in the mid 20s in attendance during the lean years. If they lose tickets this season, it’s going to start hurting them.
  16. But of course in that case, the reason Rick Hahn hasn’t resigned isn’t some grand conspiracy where he’s an excellent GM hamstrung by an owner on every decision he makes, it’s that he’s a spineless, ineffective coward and a yes man who wasn’t willing to stand up for anything when his owner stepped all over him. Which is what I already believed.
  17. Should never have been put in the OF. Is doing exactly what his hitting coach teaches at the plate.
  18. Right now compared to 2019, attendance is up by 15% - over 3000 tickets per game. That is probably less than they projected but it’s 240,000 tickets over a full season. TV and radio audiences are up, ads in the ballpark are worth more. Even with a disappointing season that’s easily well over ten million dollars in revenue growth regardless of who is paying. I do think ticket prices also went up in there. They don’t need a boycott. They just need people to decide they have other things to do with their money, and if they can’t keep people interested, then that’s big losses.
  19. The first month of which year? The 2022 White Sox went 8-12 in April with a major losing streak.
  20. No matter how much anyone may want to say that they made no mistakes, the white Sox gave a marketplace to deal with. If they can’t use the postseason to sell 2023 ticket packages and ticket sales this year already have been less than hoped, what exactly are they going to do to keep people in the ballpark next year if they make no changes to the big guys? The fans who are chanting fire Tony just won’t buy tickets next year, no one will care.
  21. And then Kenny willingly signed a contract extension in 2017.
  22. Maybe some other team does view differently based on scouts, but highly talented hitting 1b with 4 years of control and some of the worst coaching in baseball is how I’d write it. I would say that’s basically what he was worth last offseason as he’s shown quite a bit of improvement.
