  1. Eloy Jimenez is in no position to make demands of a front office. He is under a contract where the biggest money is in option years. What is he going to do, sit out? Come in out of shape Harden style? If he wants to play a certain spot he has to be earning it.
  2. If I was running their media operation I would probably have talking points prepared for a guy like Andrus coming into a new spot. The team knows what stuff local reporters will ask about, Andrus can’t know the big story for all 30 teams. Even if he doesn’t follow them, a heads up is probably appreciated by veteran players.
  3. McGuire isn’t a guy who is likely going to burn bridges with any franchise, particularly since he has some other off the field issues that teams will hear about if they acquire him. Keuchel clearly doesn’t care about doing so, but there’s a decent chance he’s a jerk who only has a ring thanks to cheaters so possibly a bit biased.
  4. Cutting Rutherford twice rather than being angry at the GM who traded for him seems a bit vindictive.
  5. That’s why they needed a team meeting to talk about having fun. Because this is going great!
  6. He may want to retire. He’s earned 9 figures in his career and he didn’t want to commit at the start of what has to have been a miserable season.
  7. Here's the thing, the White Sox might have $20 million total to spend next year including Abreu. So it might be impossible to sign Cueto if Abreu comes back, and it would probably be impossible to add a starting OF with the little bit of money remaining.
  8. He hasn't played since the bad wrist destroyed his swing last weekend. Now he is also on personal leave, which is fine since he wouldn't be playing anyway.
  9. Hanging curve ball over the plate and Vaughn with a solid single to RF. Announcers praise him for a simple approach and not trying to do to much - but damn, I'd trade 2 or 3 singles like that for him pulling that ball over the LF wall. That was a ball that could be hammered.
  10. On paper, the projection systems coming into the year still had this as a 90 win team (PECOTA was at 94 I looked this morning) and Fangraphs had them at a >90% chance at a playoff spot. There is talent here whether we see it now or not, and the dropoffs we've seen this year are rare enough that the projection systems didn't expect them. That's tellign.
  11. Oh lets not pretend that this is sudden or new for these folks. Am I the only one who recalls the White Sox having Omar Narvaez and Kevan Smith on their roster and then a week later having no catchers but an expensive closer? McCann worked out great as a signing, but having to go sign a catcher because you needed a pricey closer is sorta the definition of unorganized and haphazard.
  12. If Rick Hahn didn’t screw up so badly with LaRoche, Cabrera, Beckham, and Bonifacio I might have been optimistic. But…
  13. He will stay. He should not. The manager hired properly should be able to hire his own staff.
  14. I know it won’t happen but give me a legit coaching search and coaching staff and I would actually believe results would be somewhat better.
  15. Especially with no playoff ticket sales, I think we just have to accept that the team next year will look awfully like this one with Sosa and Colas added. Whether that includes Abreu will be the only real question.
  16. The only 2 players who got that much money after being worth under 0.5 fWAR last year were Pederson and Soler.
  17. On the first I don’t know. I’ve seen a guy retire because of this org. On the second, not a chance.
  18. You realize this would add what, $12 million to the White Sox's payroll? Give or take arb numbers? Bellinger $17 million this year, Giolito $7.4 million - next years arb numbers maybe $20 million and $8 million? So congratulations the White Sox now have $8 million to find a mid-rotation starter.
  19. Someone would absolutely take a gamble on Giolito's salary for a minimal player return/bag of balls this offseason. That's quite different from saying he currently could be traded for something worthwhile.
  20. Lynn is pitching today right? So he kinda needs to be back.
