They hope that he can DH on Thursday and play CF on Friday, but it still remains confusing. They are consistently playing a man down again and again this year. There are some limits to how often guys can move up and down, but they've moved guys up and down for short stints before and they could be churning their 40 man roster more if that was a major issue. I said this in the game thread - I've never once seen a team keep so many people active when they can't play. A couple times a year sure, but it seems like it's been 1/3 of the games for this team this year have had someone inactive who eventually winds up on the IL. It's completely bizarre and inexplicable.

Drop him in the list of Lynn, Grandal, Leury, Kelly. You'd have to pay someone at least a portion of his money to get him off your roster right now. Probably wouldn't have to buy out the whole thing.

If Robert sitting for an extra couple games was the first time they'd done this in 2022, I probabaly would be curious but not more than that. But they've very consistently done this same thing this year - probably closing in on 10 times. They've probably played with a short roster due to guys who were going onto or coming off the IL in 1/3 or even 1/2 of their games this year. Its utterly bizarre and confusing. I've never seen anything like it.

I dunno they only look to have started a few days late. Maybe that has more to do with the limits on numbers of callups in September. edit: https://www.milb.com/news/season-extended-mlb-and-milb-add-10-game-final-stretch-to-triple-a-schedule

Well that seems new to me. Neat.

Does it cost us the chance to get better in 23 to barely make it into a wild card round in ‘22? If they had spent an extra $80 million last offseason and were sitting there with a $250 million payroll way over the tax, even I would have to say they’re losing money and can’t do that for long - they wouldn’t be adding anything next offseason in that case, and so if their 86 win team gets eliminated in round 1, that could be their last shot. Trading Colas or Sosa might make them better right now and give them that shot at 86 wins and a division title, but where does that leave them next offseason where they’re likely starved for contributions?

Is there baseball in Charlotte in a month?

I’ll bet you this one again - with how their pitching staffs ran out of gas, if the Braves had to play a wild card round and the Astros and Dodgers didn’t, the Braves might not even get past the Dodgers, let alone the Astros.

Eloy has put up 0.2 WAR this season for $7.3 million and is due a minimum of $27 million over the next 2+ seasons. He put up 0.7 WAR in 2021 so this is not only a 1 season issue. Barring a second half offensive explosion, the answer is “his contract is likely movable without picking up money, but the return will be practically nothing - no one that will ever see a big league roster.”
-
While that should put them in front of the Twins, does that make them anywhere close to as good as the Astros or Yankees? That was my question and I think the answer is illustrative.
-
I believe you have added like $90 million and 2.6 WAR for all of them. Does that make this team 20 games over, adding 2.6 WAR?
-
Asleep. No one can deny that.
-
Good. Everyone get pissed off. You can’t be pissed off if you’re asleep. The players have been, and the fans are getting there.
-
Bah, what player could they have spent money on last offseason that would have turned them from a .500 team with a shot at the playoffs into a team 20 games over .500 who could genuinely threaten the Yankees or Astros?

It’s organization wide. Their GB rate shot up when they hired Steverson, Menechino got the job because he teaches the same thing. This is across three managers and two hitting coaches. -
Like Andrew Vaughn who hit 38 HRs over 501 plate appearances in 2 college seasons and now is on pace for 15 over that same number?
-
I agree. I have few issues with standing pat and letting this play out. I have plenty of issues with how we got here, but the odds of us doing more damage were way higher than the odds of us doing good.

Just so someone says it, there is an entire industry happy to provide tools to turn equity in a business into liquid funds, particularly if it was on an investment that would have a good chance of increasing revenue or business value. -

He shouldn’t have had a job after his competitive 2013 team won 63 games.
