Yes. This is literally the job of the manager. You have an emotional player who feeds on it? A quality manager keeps that player with an appropriate level of focus and keeps him from overstepping. There’s a reason this has happened twice in the last 2 years and 0 times before that.

They gave the deal a C. Mariners are desperate for a playoff spot, Haniger is currently rehabbing so will be back soon, but they needed a starter. They got the top one on the market but paid a high price. It won’t put them past the Astros, but it’s been so long since they made the playoffs that a wild card appearance and the second year in the deal justifies it.

The first two you’re not really selling. Does anyone on the radio get those “sell your broken down car for cash” ads that I get streaming? Both of them have about $15 million remaining on their deals, you will need to pay the large majority of that to move them. They are scrap metal, not workable cars. There’s no one coming up behind either of them who needs that roster spot yet, there is zero reason not to play out the season with them and hope for improvement. Graveman has been good enough to be worth a decent piece - not a top 100 prospect but someone who could contribute next year. They won’t do it, but that is a guy who they should move.

Quite clearly McGuire must be sold. There is simply no room for him on this team right now if LaRussa trusts Seby more, and I can’t imagine zero teams need a backup C.

Peralta’s arm grades as a -1.8 on Fangraphs so far this year. That is in the bottom 10% of outfielders overall - for comparison his arm rates as just about as effective as Robert’s so far this year. Both Sheets and Vaughn are also at about -2, but they have half of Peralta’s innings out there. So, are is not a strength, not ideal, but we are throwing garbage out there right now so still a slight upgrade.

It will be more than 3. It was 3 last year the first time he did this under this manager. This is a repeat offense. They may start with 5, they might start with more in case it gets cut on appeal. He will probably miss at least 5.
