2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 01:02 AM) But can you still beat Boston or Orlando in the playoffs? Seems to me they'll both just feed it down low all game and terrorize the Bulls. Maybe Asik can do that some day, but surely not in the next two years. The Bulls have done a real good job of figuring out ways to deny guys the ball inside. Howard was eating them alive when he got the ball, but he wasn't getting the ball enough inside to really make a difference last time. I don't know about if they can do it in a full 7 game series...but this team can slow down the inside game enough and shut the door completely outside.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 12:09 AM) So if the Wolves called Forman up and said Love for Noah, what do you do? Anybody that's says they'd keep Noah is a bold-faced liar. Only because of Noah's growing injury history.

White Sox System Breakdown: Catchers
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 12:08 AM) The most favorable comparison one can make with Flowers based on peripherals is to Mike Napoli, but that's his absolute best case scenario at this point. If we are taking peripherals out of the equation - which was mainly what I was implying - then comparing Flowers to Barajas makes more sense. He'll draw more walks than Barajas, but he might not hit above .200. Perhaps some combination of Napoli and Barajas. Perhaps Ron Karkovice's 1993 season with 15-20 more walks. .225/.325/.425. He's a big time boom or bust player due to the fact that he is a big time true outcome player (BB, K, HR), and his fluctuations in BABIP will have a more pronounced effect on his overall splits. I still like the comparison to Mark Reynolds. If he keeps his strikeouts under 200 he starts becoming a valuable player. 220-ish strikeouts and suddenly he's hitting under the mendoza line.

U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
The U.S. can't intervene because it doesn't want to start a NATO led war against Libya, which is what a no-fly zone entails.

SS, what can you tell us about regulation of spent fuel rods and their storage in the U.S.?

Five things the Sox need from Spring Training
Teahen's been that bad at defense so far? Somehow I'm still surprised. Yet there's also a note of relief.

Japan Tsunami
A new fire has been found in the Unit 4 spent fuel storage area. This is the same area which caught fire yesterday causing a 1000x spike in radiation levels. There is a report out that 2 workers are missing. I don't know how they were able to extinguish the first fire, but if they can't contain this, it's game over for the whole plant.

The Democrat Thread
Ezra Klein's bit on Evan Bayh is a pleasure to read and incredibly disheartening about the state of government. I'd just suggest reading the whole thing.

Japan Tsunami
Desperation move time. When Chernobyl blew up, the Russians had helicopter pilots dropping cement into the structure to try to contain it. Most of those pilots did not survive.

Carlos Guillen and Joel Zumaya will not break camp with the Tigers, they will stay in Florida and continue rehab work. No timetable has been announced for their return. Neither have played in spring games.

2011 TV Thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 02:54 PM) I can't believe they let The Event air that episode last night dealing with a possible nuclear power plant meltdown. A lot of shows are happy when they're topical. 24 premiered shortly after 9/11. The West Wing ran a terrorist attack episode in the weeks after 9/11. It's all about the treatment of the event; it's not necessarily in bad taste to show it happening.

2011 White Sox closer
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 02:55 PM) That's exactly it. It's swing hard and pray you connect. Thome is really the only guy I can think of that has connected well. There are always a few, I just glanced through the Bat V. Pitcher thing on ESPN. Aaron Rowand is 3/6 off him with a HR. Inge is 2/6, Boesch is 1/4, each of them has a HR. Delmon Young is 3/7, all singles. Sizemore is 5/17 with a HR, Choo is 6/19 with a 2b and a HR. The guys on the Indians are the only ones who seem to genuinely have decent #'s against him (and I do recall he has struggled a few times against cleveland recently).

2011 White Sox closer
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) Alright, if some of the best righties can't touch him then i have no worries. I think with Matt, the rule probably is that very few guys who face him regularly have regular success. He's hard to pick up from whatever side, so your best bet is to go up there, guess where the fastball will be, and try to hit it if you can pick it up. That means some guys will come up against him a few times and have success (Thome) but if you face him 10+ times, your numbers will start to even out.

2011 White Sox closer
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) Yea he's earned it but I just worry about him closing out games against teams like Detroit, where he'd be facing VMart, Cabrera and Ordonez, guys who love fastballs. Against Thorton, Martinez is 5/19 with a .785 OPS, Cabrera is 1/7 (.476) and Ordonez is 0/4.

3rd Base....NO....not Teahen!
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 11:43 AM) I would have no problem if Morel did that. But if he seriously is putting up OPS's ranging anywhere from .675-.725 2-3 years from now from 3B with no signs of any real improvement, he will be doing it for another organization because the White Sox won't allow it. In his first 3 full seasons, Joe Crede put up OPS of .741, .717, and .756, in a bigger offense era.

Additional varieties of plant trouble. Worth noting that storage and processing of spent fuel rods is an issue in this country as well.
