  1. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) just shoot me, all day testing days suck Kinda makes you...want more standardized testing!
  2. Thought this added something of note to the discussion. Not quite sure what, but wanted to share it. Study link
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 01:57 PM) I'm not even sure what she was trying for, but aren't dentites the littel square decorations on furniture and walls? That's my guess without Googling. Do the Googling. It gets highlighted by me as a Seinfeld reference.
  4. Keith Olbermann sort of chastised Stewart for including him in his rants, but then came back and "Suspended" his "Worst person in the world" segment, saying:
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) You missed the joke. edit: Corrupt Bastards Club = CBC Columbia Broadcasting Company = CBS she also used "complicit" as a noun yesterday. I think this one wins. (Please tell me people here catch that)
  6. You know...if PK14 goes to Arizona, that puts LaRoche legitimately back on the market, and this team def. does need some bats from the LH side, especially if Viciedo moves to the DH role.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 01:19 PM) My wife has to work 10PM - 6AM Thursday night so we probably won't be going out. We have gone the past few years but it seems like we find less and less to buy every year. We went looking for a TV and a computer last year but would've had to been in line on Thursday morning to have a chance at them. I wrote this in the catch-all thread a couple weeks ago...it depends on whether you're after a "Very Good" deal or if you want the real, legit "Doorbuster" deal. Most of the stores will have a handful of items that are at ridiculous prices, that they're probably selling for a loss...but they only have a handful of those. That's your best TV, your best computer, etc., in the Bestbuy ad. Those ones will often say "Minimum 10 items per store" or something like that. They're the ones you get in line on Monday for. But no place wants you coming in, being willing to spend $1000, and walking away with nothing. They will have a number of very good deals on computers, TV's & such, things that they're still turning a profit on, but that aren't necessarily the "get me through the door this price is crazy" deal level. Even if you miss the top deal, they're going to have stacks and stacks of the TV for their very good deal in the back room.
  8. NSFW. This is great.
  9. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 12:45 PM) Didn't his "family money come from oil? Yes. However, the funds he got from his family are, as far as I can tell from public disclosures, dwarfed by the sum he got from investing in Google right after the 2000 elections. For a couple years prior to Google's IPO, he was flying coach with no security when he'd go around giving his climate change lecture.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 06:59 PM) Al Gore? Without disputing the point that Gore currently has lots of green energy investments...you do realize that the large majority of his family's funds came from being an early investor in something called "The Google", right?
  11. Oh, and I want my F***ing sticker.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 11:42 AM) I'll call the Senate 52-48 Dems after the election, and GOP wins the house and gets a 10-20 seat majority there. That.
  13. Cubs named Pat Listach their bench coach.
  14. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 07:59 AM) Get out and vote Hell, I think I voted, but I don't have an I voted sticker. Maybe I should try to vote again and again until they give me one.
  15. Lousy small government states and their lack of "I voted" stickers. WTF?
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 09:59 PM) Viciedo seems to be the type of guy who swings at the first good pitch he sees, which is where the thought of him having good at bats and appearing to see a lot of pitches comes into effect (and I believe that to be true too). The problem with that general concept is that, eventually, pitchers will figure this out and they will start throwing him pitches that look good to hit but really are not, and the easiest way to do that is for righties to throw breaking balls down and away and for lefties to throw breaking balls down and in. If a pitcher throws you a pitch that looks good to hit and then breaks hard out of the zone...you usually tip your cap. Doesn't matter who you are. Viciedo's problem this year was that pitchers discovered a pitch he couldn't lay off of...that pitch up and in, out of the zone. He couldn't hit it and he couldn't lay off of it. Those are the sorts of adjustments we'll need to see him make...laying off pitches that he shouldn't swing at, or fouling them away.
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 10:03 PM) Only other team I've seen that's gonna go hard after him is...the D-Backs. And of course, he lives in Arizona. I think yes though. WHere have you heard that Arizona will go after him? I really don't think they will...they've gone youth/savings this year with the Jackson and Haren trades, tried to load up on young pitching, and they've got options at 1b (LaRoche, who I know they've talked about resigning, and Brandon Allen).
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 02:28 AM) Baseball contracts are hardly ever weighted less at the end (most that are are long term deals, like ARod's), and an option never would be. That contract simply isn't feasible. You could get the lower $ value option on the end if you added say a $2 million buyout or made the option mutual.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 08:16 AM) As did Cliff Lee. Don't throw that fastball up right there. Edgar had been on fire and clutch in the WS, while Rowand barely even played anymore. Pitch around Renteria, especially on 2-0, and take your chances with Rowand. That's Cliff Lee's style though. He goes after people, he doesn't want to just give up and walk a guy because of the situation.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) I'm really happy for Rowand and Uribe it's just awesome that their careers brought them here. Also, hell of a thing for Posey and Renteria. I wouldn't be suprised if Renteria retires and chooses to go out like this. That would be an ending fitting for the start. Renteria still has that big 2nd year on his contract though. Anyway, everyone hated that Renteria deal, he struggled the whole year, and he winds up WS MVP. Yowza.
  21. What a mighty performance by the Bulls. Incredible shooting night by Deng. Thing is...at least from what I saw, a whole lot of his looks were created by the DR1, who had a career high in assists, and by Deng actually moving around, rather than standing around near the 3 point line like he did in previous offensive incarnations. I wonder if that isn't the rule; if Deng moves, he'll have a good game, if he stands around he's ineffective. DR1 has really, really stepped up his passing game. There were a few times on the break that he dumped off to feed Deng or one of the big guys, where in previous years he'd have just taken the contested shot. The ball movement right now is so much more effective than it was. Another solid performance off the bench by Asik. I couldn't really watch the whole game...not because there was other stuff on, but because there were SO many fouls called it made no sense to continue watching. Ugh. Made defense on Aldridge impossible, but the Bulls made up for that on the perimeter. Boozer supposed to have his cast removed today.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 06:50 PM) Its chosen ignorance and I agree that it is baffling. A wise man once said...it is very hard to get a person to believe a thing when his salary depends on him believing the opposite.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 06:13 PM) Why the skyway? About the right time and about the right amount of concrete.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) That's pretty awesome on paper we have our defensive 3B now for the next 10 years. Hope he can hit a bit. WTF?
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 05:58 PM) Unless someone talks about it, it never happened. Very many skeletons compose the skyway from people who talked about such things.
