  1. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 05:39 PM) Well, it's extremely obvious that the White Sox are a bad team that got EXTREMELY lucky for a 31 game stretch. God, to think, without that run, we'd be like 20 games out and 10 games under.. my god. What a horrible, horrible season. Good job failing down the stretch (again). Or...the Sox got somewhat lucky over a 31 game run and somewhat unlucky over the rest of the season and wound up a team that was somewhat over .500...like a lot of people predicted coming into the season.
  2. Drat, couldn't get out of that inning. For anyone watching...I'm interested in a scout's view of Harrell's stuff, if you can give it. I can see that he's not throwing nearly enough strikes...is that the typical "throwing everything off the corners and trying to make the perfect pitch every time" deal we see from all of our minor league guys when they come up, or is he just no where close?
  3. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 05:12 PM) I guess what I'm saying is maybe...just maybe the players on this roster would respond to somebody of LaRussa's stature differently. Who knows...I could be a worse response. Plus...you'd have to factor in how Paulie'd feel about it. Well, I think we can at least say Colby Rasmus wouldn't be signing with the White Sox at any point.
  4. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) C'mon Balta.... It's not unfair once it's happened.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) I would be so happy if this happened. Until one of our players winds up dead via DUI.
  6. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) Ok, so with another coach, the Bears are a Super Bowl contender? They're a playoff contender? They can switch to a 3-4 scheme and they'll instantly be better? They haven't tried different offenses? The next coach is going to pick the "right" offense because he's smarter than Lovie, right? The offensive line is filled up and down with Pro Bowl talent? Their corners are flat speed studs who can cover anyone in the open field or hit them hard enough to fumble each time? Urlacher is not aging? The Bears have two semi studs and one huge stud as WR's? The only wrong move Lovie is doing is not playing Major Wright and Chris Harris together at their natural positions. But please, have the forum and prove me wrong. I'm not convinced you're wrong...but so far the only point you've argued is that Lovie has one of the better winning %ages out of any Bears coach. I'm not a Lovie hater...but you went farther than that and said he's one of the better coaches in the league. I hear lots of people bash Lovie and in some cases (kick the damn field goal!) I can see why. Can you give me more than just winning %age to argue otherwise?
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) Other than the fact that the meatballs in this spaghetti are made out of turds, it tastes really good. It's one of the better spaghettis I've had.
  8. Well the good news is...we haven't spent time meandering around .500, we've actually been a solid team. The Twins have just been flat out great. They've got a legit shot at home field throughout the AL.
  9. I'm not sure if I can come up with a worse on-paper pitching matchup for the Sox. I assume that means we can chalk up a W today. Come on Lucas...give us some reasons to like you next year.
  10. Even with a down year...there's still plenty of reason to believe that he's an insane future bat to have at 2b.
  11. Different subject; there hasn't been nearly as much focus as in 2005 due to the lack of U.S. landfalls, but this hurricane season is officially a record breaker in multiple ways.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 09:05 PM) Joe Miller has some pretty terrible ideas, but I wouldn't put him quite into the same category as the other ones. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Miller_(Alaska_politician) More anti-science crap, though. Lisa Murkowski appears to be launching a write-in campaign for the seat tonight.
  13. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) Could he have possibly done that because of the endless amount of s*** he took when he did retaliate? He's apparently just always wrong no matter what the decision these days. Although that's certainly possible...what other part of the way he likes to play the game has Ozzie changed because of someone else's criticism?
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) We definitely had a chance. We were 4.5 games up at one point. We had a real chance. Sox stood pat aside from the ridiculous Jackson deal. I'll call the Jackson deal as ridiculous as anyone...but I'm not going to say that it hurt us.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) What does this have to do with randomness? The Royals have a zero% chance of winning the division in a 10 year span. You can judge the Royals to be pathetic. The White Sox are coming in right where the average says they should.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) 2/10 in the KW era. And that ratio is pathetic. Really...no it isn't. There are 5 teams in that division. If the dice fell completely at random...each team would win the division 2 times every 10 years.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 03:16 PM) Torre should head to his home in Hawaii and never look back. He's 70. It's time. I could see him staying on for another year or two somewhere if he really wanted to. I just can't see him going anywhere that isn't obviously loaded and ready for an immediate playoff run.
  18. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) And Cub fans panties are starting to drop. I couldn't imagine Joe Torre being that dumb.
  19. QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) Yeah, I was kind of hinting at that. With Sale, Beckham and even Hudson the Sox have produced 3 solid Major Leaguers in a short period of time. Morel and Viciedo are on the cusp. The system had near-ready talent, it's now turning into ready leaving the system mostly dry. Don't forget about the other guys traded away. If you count guys traded away, the Sox system has produced a pretty large number of guys that are at least on the cusp as I write this. Allen, Carter, Gio, Richard, probable one or two more I'm forgetting.
  20. The NY Times on what it is the Twins do.

I don't know who wins...but I've literally refused to eat at Burger King for the last 5+ years solely because of the quality of their advertising.
  22. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) How is it not? More often than not, a kid with Sale’s stuff who throws from the left side will remain in the bullpen for an extended period of time, especially after making his major league debut there. The White Sox have decided to forgo this and let him focus on making a more significant contribution to the team, the very next spring, instead of years down the line. I get the opposite impression...that if teams think a guy can handle being a starter without his arm going out...they may give him a taste in the bullpen, but they're going to get him in the starting rotation. That's the way the Twins did it with both Santana and Liriano, for example. About the only time it really, truly becomes an issue is if a guy takes over a closer's spot...and even then teams may still try to move him to starter to get the extra innings out of him. Papelbon and Joba Chamberlain are plausible examples there.
  23. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 11:29 AM) It is a bit disappointing to only have two playoff appearances in ten years. No matter what the team's record was, that really isn't enough appearances. Really...we've had 3 playoff appearances in the last 10 year period (October 2000 was less than 10 years ago) and 3 in 11 seasons. That's right about average performance overall...and it's generally above where you'd expect the White Sox to wind up based on the total salary output of the team for the last decade.
  24. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 12:10 PM) This is absolutely the right decision to make and I commend Kenny for not responding to the conventional thinking of putting a lefty kid with his kind of arm into the back of the bullpen and letting him rot. How is that conventional thinking?
  25. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 01:00 PM) I wouldn't necessarily put Rand Paul in that category. Live in Kentucky for 20 years and have no idea that there's a bit of a drug problem going on in these states? Yeah, that takes some skill.
