65th anniversary of Hiroshima
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:10 PM) What indication did Japan show of being willing to suffer what to them would have been a world-wide humiliation of surrender? They'd proposed multiple times that they'd be willing to surrender and accept occupation if the U.S. were willing to accept some level of retention of the emperor. After the bombs were dropped, the U.S. accepted some level of retention of the emperor.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 01:57 PM) So not having the lead at all is better than losing it? When would you prefer to lose the lead (aka pitching someone other than Thor/Putz), top of the 7th or top of the 9th?

QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 10:20 AM) I'll take Jackson and a pennant race over Hudson and irrelevance. But Hudson and a pennant race you don't want?

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) I wonder if Twins will say screw it and just move up Liriano and Pavano a day due to their day off tomorrow. Pavano's ERA actually goes up a run when you give him an extra day of rest. Liriano's goes down 0.75 runs.

Adam Dunn put on waivers...
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:13 AM) Block on the Giants? They don't really have the space for him, do they? If they could move Manny's salary...

THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (maggliopipe @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 01:49 PM) Great game! My last of the year but I ended the season at 6-0. I also walked past KW on the concourse and punched his arm (not too hard). At first I kinda got a wtf expression followed shortly by a smile and a nod. You're on his list now.

Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) Alexei really needs to stop giving up strikes by faking the bunt. It seems to work for him, frankly. Some guys it helps get their eyes trained on the ball to turn like that. I can't complain about Alexei's offense recently, that's for sure.

Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) Kotsay is a beast right now! If all he could do is put up a .750 OPS the rest of the way this team is so much more balanced...sigh...

Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
Kotsay just keeps bouncing them off the warning track. Time for a baserunning error.

Jenks will Close again
QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 01:41 AM) Didn't he suddenly get shelved due to injury after a coincidental streak of sucktitude back in June? June was when he was really good. He had an undisclosed family issue at some point earlier in the season.

THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 10:13 AM) According to the Pythagorean, since June 9th, the Sox have played to their exact expected record. Prior to June 9th, they played 1 game better than expected. So if Pythagorean is to hold any credibility, Ozzie cannot be blamed for losing games. However...if you put the worst lineup possible out there every game, wouldn't the pythagorean still wind up agreeing with the record?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) That is the whole issue. Putz has been huge in the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings this year. If you don't use him in those spots, there is a very good chance there isn't a lead to protect in the 9th. The problem is...if you use them to protect that 3 run lead and Jenks is your remaining option for the 9th...it doesn't seem to matter any more if you've protected that lead in the 7th-8th.

That ball just wouldn't come down.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 10:14 PM) Looks like Bobby is in Ozzie's doghouse. He won't stay there long, he never does.

THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) And I just have to say that Ozzie needs to limit Rios in trying to steal bases, he's been so inefficient. Pierre is probably the only guy worth running. We ran into so many outs in this game I was kicking chairs around. Feels like we've run into 10 outs this week.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (Soxy @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) I think this has been covered but essentially AA is basically giving someone with a broken leg an aspirin instead of actually treating the leg. But treating the leg takes money, and we already know how this country feels about poor people getting medical care.

Sox @ Orioles - Floyd vs. Millwood
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Hard to say if Roberts got him. Like maybe just barely. There was at least a foot of space in there in the view from the front right.

Sox @ Orioles - Floyd vs. Millwood
QUOTE (qwerty @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) This is simply out of control. Ozzie must be stopped. Really, that one is on the ump...but still...that's never an easy call and it's going to go against you a lot.

Sox @ Orioles - Floyd vs. Millwood
I feel like we're what, 3 out of our last 10 on stolen bases?

Daniel Hudson watch thread
QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 06:24 PM) YOu just can't compare numbers. Pitching in that division vs pitching in the AL, especially when there is absolutely NO pressure on Hudson like there was in his starts here. He can just let it all go and go out and pitch with Arizona because they aren't going to be in anything anytime soon. So it's a really nice situation for him. However, Edwin Jackson struggled mightily under that same situation. All the excuses that were made for why Jackson was so bad (Arizona air, bad Arizona defense) count too.
