  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 05:26 PM) Thornton has worked a lot, I'd go Linebrink, with a 5 run lead. Its one inning. If it gets interesting, then break out the big guns. I'd love to rest Thornton for 3 more days.
  2. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 05:12 PM) I am not the best at breaking down mechanics but I can definitely see what you are explaining here in Beckham's swing. It seems like a simple answer, but with that inconsistency could he just be trying to hard? Remember what Rios said when he came to the White Sox last year, he struggled so bad because he was trying to hard...trying to prove his worth. Could Beckham just need to relax and let his talent do the rest? Seems to have worked for Rios. Rios got a complete swing overhaul by Greg Walker in the offseason though.
  3. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) I know only half of 1 year was in the Majors, but he did have success at every level he has played. There had to be something that scouts found in his approach that he has to adjust to somehow. It is frustrating to watch but I would have to believe he is not THIS bad. His mechanics have been inconsistent at best all season. He goes from a great swing to flying open without a breath inbetween.
  4. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) I'm telling you guys... he's going to mess around and play himself out of town. Somebody is going to take notice offer up a bounty of young talent that KW won't be able to refuse. I continue to think this is the correct move.
  5. Blowing out the Cubs remains fun.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) Quentin's going to end up hitting his home runs. The concern will be how bad his average will be... He went nearly a month without a HR.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) Haha, out of all the arguments about Peavy, we haven't even discussed his playoff reputation yet. Until he pitches like an ace in the regular season, we won't have to worry about that.
  8. Have I mentioned how inconvenient afternoon baseball is yet today?
  9. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) I agree with both of your points. There's no way Kenny is responsible for the players performing this poorly; we'd be good if they were all playing well. The problem is that our 2 best hitters going into the season (Quentin, Beckham) were question marks. With their salaries being so low, we needed to pay premium for a proven RBI bat or 2, thereby offsetting the question marks of Beckham/Quentin. That flexibility would have lightened the pressure on these 2 young, budding superstars who, for god's sake, don't need all this responsibility. Took Derek Lee years to recover from the wrist injury, but he did. Now his problems might just be age. If the pitching were where it should be, we'd be right in the hunt, even with Quentin and Beckham underperforming.
  10. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) Yes sir, absolutely!! ..Prime 9 is on right now!! haha ..Top 9 catchers of all time!! Johnny Bench at #1!! Fisk. (walks away silently).
  11. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:25 PM) Can you say En Fuego? Where would we be without this guy? Like 4 games behind Cleveland? Fangraphs thinks he's been worth 3 wins above a replacement...assuming he was replaced by an average player. Compared to Mark Kotsay though, who'd probably be playing there, I'd guess that's like a 6-8 game difference.
  12. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_leagu...?urn=mlb,247335 Marlins putting in backstop aquariums in their new ballpark. Will they add oil?
  13. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) The argument I think Stone is making that if you arent going to play a guy with his talent on regularly, it is counter productive for his development to ride the bench. Send him down to get ABs. Bah, with as successful as Colvin has been so far, sending him down makes no sense. If they're not going to play him this year or soon, frankly, the right move is to trade him to a team for bullpen help.
  14. QUOTE (vandy125 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 03:38 PM) Looks like AZ is taking another step in the illegal immigration battle Illegal Immigrant's Kids Denied Citizenship Not sure how it would ever pass off as constitutional, but there it is, a law to not allow citizenship to kids that are born in the US but have illegal immigrant parents. I'm sure the Latino community in Arizona will be pleased to have the tea party strongly on their side on an issue that is a clear violation of the Constitution.
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) Paulie about to unload Good enough. 4-2 Sox.
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) Anyone see Michelle Bachmann whining that Obama/ the feds haven't confiscated and utilized enough private property to clean this mess up? How does someone's brain function like that? Vehemently anti-government, paranoid anti-socialist, but also demands that government seize private property. WTF? Because all that matters is that Obama did it.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) I'd agree with that a little more if there had been millions of Americans straining their resources. I think that the U.S. drug consumption probably counts under this statement.
  18. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) Also, having someone tell Tyler Flowers to change his swing is counter productive. It's almost bordering on sabotage. Not when you look at his numbers. He's going to be striking out 200+ times in the big leagues if he comes up right now. That means his ceiling is Mark Reynolds if he can connect for 40+ HR a year...but his bust potential is high and his Josh Fields potential is very high. He could pull off the Reynolds. We won't know until we see him.
  19. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 11:52 AM) You could be right, but Chapman is struggling to get through 5 innings on a consistent basis in AAA because of high pitch counts, so his control is in question especially when he will be facing more patient ML hitters. Volquez is the wildcard if he will be able to get back into form and if the Reds will still be in contention if they need to wait for him. Harang will likely be a FA at the end of the year as will Arroyo. B There are other teams that would love to have Danks, I just mentioned the Reds because they have the talent in the minors that best matches our needs. Yeah, Harang and Arroyo will be gone next year, but that would still leave the Reds with Cueto, Bailey, Leake, Volquez, and Chapman as their top 5 starters next year. Always possible injuries will take their toll or Volquez won't come back to form next year, but either way, I don't see them adding a top of the rotation starter in the near future. The best places the Reds and Sox match up are the bullpen and maybe some backup spots like possibly C.
  20. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 01:44 PM) You forgot the green. I figured I didn't need it.
  21. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 01:42 PM) Someone who was a protege of Bobby Cox How about Ozzie Guillen? He played for the Braves at the end of his career, and I think he even has playoff coaching experience.
  22. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) AJ is projected to be a type A free agent, so if KW doesn't get a fair offer, at least equivalent to those two draft picks, he might as well wait. AJ Pierzynski makes $6.75 million this season. He'll be lucky to get 1/2 that on the free agent market next season. To get those picks, the Sox would have to offer him arbitration, which guarantees him basically the same amount next year, since arbiters almost never cut a player's salary. The White Sox will not offer him arbitration if they keep him. If the Sox traded him, there is not a single team in the league that would offer him arbitration, because he would be throwing $4 million in the trash by declining arbitration. And furthermore, if he did decline, it's likely that no team would sign him until next April, because no team would want to give up a 2nd round pick for him. Saying this again, for the 2nd time today: AJ Pierzysnki will not be offered arbitration. No draft picks will come back if AJ is held onto.
  23. QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 12:26 PM) Its not. Even non college Texas fans would stay up to watch the game late. They just don't know how big it is down here. But in terms of marketing towards the rest of the country, it rapidly becomes one. I keep missing the final minutes of NBA games in the finals because I need to get to sleep.
