  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 09:47 AM) Unbelievable. Your hate of Hawaiians takes this thread to a new low. You think I hate Hawaiians just because I want a curtain of fire? I was just noting that they tend to like Spam more than mainlanders.
  2. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) I am totally with you. I'm the one who called McCain campaign suspension complete BS. It's a focus distraction. Why go? Seriously? Michelle did just fine. Quite simply, he went because thanks to IIRC Tony Blair, that's become the new standard. If your head of state doesn't go, then that's a slap in the face to the IOC and that might cost you some votes.
  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 09:40 AM) This is a non-sequitur. The President can be out of Washington for 1-2 days and the world won't fall apart. He also has dozens of delegates that are still going to be doing things for him whether he's there or not. And even if he's not physically there he still has the ability to communicate etc. Actually the more I think about reasons why this is irrelevant the more this particular criticism looks asinine. As long as there wasn't a major hurricane bearing down on the coast or something like that, or we weren't on the final 48 hours before a major vote, then there's very little that can't be done from the mobile oval office.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 09:40 AM) Quite sure the game threads are the place to be [/green] Really figured you had some Genius-loaded Michigan City board you were going to talk up.
  5. Perhaps you should point us to this other board?
  6. Maybe I'll start caring more about insects when their fossilized remains get subducted.
  7. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 09:16 AM) What's your point? Are you seriously suggesting that the Bejing Olympics were the only foreign games where ratings were high? Olympics, Super Bowls and Academy Awards have always been the holy trinity of ratings, regardless of site, teams, or films. People have and always will tune in. Super Bowls and Academy Awards always have their international "Ratings" massively over-inflated.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 09:08 AM) We couldn't even come together for an olympic bid. There is no way they would come together on something huge anymore, unless it became necessary. "White kids taunted by children of Black Astronauts!" (Add in drudge's siren thing and we're all set)
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 05:48 AM) Alex has started to come out of it which I think will carry over to next season. He wont even be a bargain, but he may be worth his pay which is fine with me. Hell, he's talented enough that if he keeps his head in the game and gets his swing fixed up, he could still actually be a bargain. 30/30 hitters in CF don't exactly grow on trees.
  10. By 2018/2020, it's going to have been 16-18 years since either olympics was last on U.S./North American soil. They're going to have covered every continent except Africa, assuming Rio gets it, and hit some of them more than once. That's got to give an advantage to North America for those.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 06:10 AM) Interesting. So theorhetically, we could still be setting up even bigger quakes than what we just saw. I was also curious if you thought this meant we could see more volcanic activity in the region because of these quakes, or if the quakes were a result of that? So...the subduction in the area is what leads to volcanoes and earthquakes...but typically there is no specific connection between individual earthquakes and individual eruptions, unless something gets fractured/shattered while at pressure. The answer is almost certainly no.
  12. QUOTE (G&T @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 07:51 AM) I think the relationship with the woman was one of occasional co-habitation for the last 20 years, I believe. He didn't marry her until very recently. He's been sleeping around for a while it seems. Wasn't she a ton younger than him?
  13. Just because you're 10 feet tall doesn't mean you can boss us around.
  14. We wouldn't have gotten there in the first place had it not been for JFK.
  15. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 08:53 AM) So what is Chicago's future in all this. Do they ever make a bid again or was this a one time thing? Weren't they in the 2012 bidding as well? (Not at this point, but at least at the national level?)
  16. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 07:39 PM) Just when I thought I was out, you brought me back in. Kiss your husband goodnight. Forget about your house of cards...
  17. In the city, the city of Compton
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 06:45 PM) I'd be somewhat surprised if he's not back. Kotsay is the man that will finally get DeWayne Wise out of this organization, although much later than he should have been. Dewayne wise for hitting coach?
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 06:42 PM) He's looked better recently, which gives me some semblance of slight hope. And I have to disagree with you SS2K5 on expectations next year, there are going to be expectations with our pitching rotation and the division we're in. Maybe not sky high expectations, but expectations nonetheless. The Experts always pick Cleveland, Minny, or Detroit. It'll probably be Minny and Detroit, between Cabrera/Verlander and Morneau/Mauer, the bigger names are in the other cities. Someone will always pick the royals. BP will project us to finish with 75 wins because it'll expect we'll have a terrible offense.
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) Werth seems to me to be the guy who is just due for an offensive regression, but hasn't so far. The issue with Werth is...he's the Phillies only RH bat in the middle of that lineup. Maybe they'd do something like moving him if they got a good offer, but that offer is going to have to include a RH bat.
