Predict now; What Happens on Sunday w/Twins, Tigers?
Balta1701 replied to greg775's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 4, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) Detroit is just as bad as us in the dome, aren't they? I saw advantage Twins. 2-7 in 9 games there this year. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 4, 2009 -> 06:20 AM) game 2 is gonna be Friday, so they can have Verlander for a game 2 & a possible game 5....obviously games 1 & 4 would be better for them, but its not as bad as it seems, they have to win at least one without him pitching either way But the way it was set up, had it not been for the Sox, they could have fired out Verlander and Jackson in 1-2 and 4-5 on normal rest. We totally screwed that for them.

QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 07:41 AM) I am a huge Sox fan this weekend You owe us a piece of the dome just for making Sunday's game matter.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) We've really shown up. I don't think i've ever been prouder of these guys. We forced Verlander. I mean, screw the two victories. We forced VERLANDER! We Win! And Verlander is 4-9 with a 4.97 career ERA against us. He's thrown some gems, but he's not Santana against us.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) Where was this earlier when the games mattered? We always had the pitching.
-
Well Minny, we're doing our part. You want the game tomorrow you gotta give us something in return. We want chunks of the dome.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 06:52 PM) I bet Jim Hendry is jealous that he couldn't make such a ridiculous deal. So instead he wrote a worse one.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 06:40 PM) I think his stalemate with pretty much everyone in regards to Halladay helped his termination as well. There's a lot to it, but I don't think anyone can seriously come out and say that he was fired without cause or that he'd done a great job.
-
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 06:43 PM) Not Ozzie's best effort in putting him back out there for the 8th IMO Only 90 pitches thrown, 4 hit shutout, scrambled bullpen. No reason not to try to get 1 more inning out of him.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) Garcia has just been amazing. If he could find say 92-93 on his fastball over the winter, our starting rotation should be awesome next year. Heck, he's proven in the past he can be moderately (ERA in the 4's) successful if he's throwing 89 on the fastball but is also throwing strikes and has that split finger working. The question is the number of innings his arm will be ready for next year. He gets to 92 again with the fastball and his ERA could well be below 4.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) that sucks. Back in the day nobody did chorizo burritos and brain tacos like Labamba. Nobody does them like LaBamba now either. That's just not that great of a statement.
-
QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 06:17 PM) It is guaranteed. Yeah, I thought he got there a few weeks ago.
-
77 pitches, 6 IP, 6 k's, 4 hits, 1 BB so far.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 06:08 PM) Puh-leaze. I've never seen a player with such a body for softball lack so much power. Tubby was terrible. That's what happens when you destroy a shoulder.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 05:44 PM) I'm saying that Ricciardi ended up with egg on his face because he got so much bad press for having to give away Rios because of the contract. Frankly though...he's the one who signed him to that contract. Ditto Wells. You pay GM's to be smarter than the other GM's in the league. If they can't do that, you try other ones. I don't like the Padres dumping Towers, but Riccardi's teams are losing because of how he's spent his money.

QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) When did Freddy get a forkball? He broke out a nasty split finger pitch down the stretch in 2006. I'm assuming that's the same pitch
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) Garcia 5 shutout innings. How can people not be pumped about having this guy in the 5th starter role to start next season? Yeah, maybe he has a flop or two, but he sure has given us outings down the stretch this year, and he has a whole nother offseason to recover.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 05:52 PM) What would we have lost by just releasing him in mid-September? The guy is completely worthless. Any time you have a guy with decent speed, you have the ability to develop him in to something useful. You don't succeed very often, but if you could get through his skull, he could be a decent backup.
-
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) Lots. Long. he's got 6 home runs and a >.800 OPS since Sept. 1. You can just see he's still got it but he just couldn't get that swing down with that foot.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 04:20 PM) I had never even heard of Ed Schultz before now. Probably the most popular left-wing radio host in the country now that Al's in the Senate.

Let it be, let it be, let it be oh let it be

Just...um...the smell (God I'm mean today).

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) MLB Standings How can Detroit and the Dodgers both have a one game lead and the second place teams have different elimination numbers? In the NL West, both the Dodgers and Rockies are already in the playoffs. Thus, if they wind up exactly tied, there's no need for a play-in game since they're both in, and they go to tiebreakers, and you can already tell who has those (LAD). In the AL Central, there will be only 1 playoff spot, so if the Kittens and Twinkies wind up tied, they go to a play-in game to determine the winner. Thus, the Dodgers should have a lower magic number than the Kitties since they just need to wind up tied while the Kitties need to out and out wind up 1 game up.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) There's a very real chance D2 never becomes anything more than a 4th OF. I doubt Johnny Danks is going to up and decide to leave so he can play wherever his brother is playing. Remember, Johnny Danks never came out and actually said he'd do something like that. This is just Sox fan speculation anyway. We've treated Jordan well and our FO knows the Danks family and I'm sure everyone involved is grown up enough to understand that sometimes you have to give up something good to get something good. While that is true that D1 never said anything like that, actions speak louder than words. Actions like having both D1 and D2 dump Scott Boras right after we drafted D2. Plain and simple, that action should have strongly endeared them to us. IMO, treat them as a package. You move 1, you have to move the other in the same deal. Like it or not, developing D2 is our job.
