QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) What suburb is 2 hours from the city? On a bad day?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 02:39 PM) The Broncos former GM said that the Broncos could have gotten more but that they didn't handle things right and didn't even get back to some teams. It also depends on how you define "more". The Lions may well have been willing to give up the #1 pick. But no one wants that pick because of the cap hit.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 02:35 PM) Thats why you tell him that, if he signs than he's obviously okay with being in that position. If your honest with him and frank and could sell him on a chance to compete for a title (not saying the Bulls could sell him on that, but someone probably could), than I see no reason why he wouldn't be willing to come off the bench. Plenty of stars in the twilight of there careers have made that adjustment for the shot at a ring. Seriously, the Bulls are going to be the best chance for him to grab a ring if that's what he's after? I find that hard to believe.

QUOTE (vandy125 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) Hey, I just grabbed the first example that came to mind. Would you rather I use the example of laws that need to be set down for environmental causes? Those are all based upon beliefs as well. We may put a bunch of laws into place when many people disagree as to whether or not we can have an affect on the global environment, which btw I think that we can and do. Same principal. Our laws are based upon what we believe. Again, environmental laws can be argued to be a terrible example. Really easy one. The Clean air act. Or the clean water act. Or the endangered species act. Whatever. It is simple to argue that those laws exist in no small part because not having them is a detriment to all of us. Most people don't want PCB's in their water. Or to be downing liters of mercury because there's a coal plant near by. Or to have the ecosystem for a dozen species die off because a key predator was removed and the environment in the area went crazy. In virtually every case, there is a negative outcome for at least a group of people or for the country as a whole if you don't have those laws. You are interfering with my right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness if you're constantly trying to give me cancer. Gay Marriage does not. -

QUOTE (vandy125 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) I don't think that you can argue it that way. There are ways to argue for or against gay marriage, but you can't say that beliefs have no place. Beliefs that are held firmly by our society are put down into laws. For example, I believe that we all need to stop at red lights. We all pretty much agree with that one and set it down as law. This is a terrible example. If you run a red light, you're clearly impinging upon my rights to, you know, live. The rules regarding red lights are more than beliefs, they're basic structures set up in society so that we aren't accidentally killing each other. If we didn't follow those rules, then either society wouldn't function as it currently does because no one would drive given the 50/50 chances of dying, or we'd run out of cemetery space. No one died after the first gay people got married. Gay people getting married does not impinge upon my rights to live my life any way I want. It does not affect my life, liberty, or pursuit of happiness, to borrow a phrase. -
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) The need to improve of the OL pronto...Pace is a good start even though he's best years are behind him,he can probably be better than avg... I think the Bears OL is significantly upgraded from last year already, especially if they're creative and wind up trying Pace out at RT

QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) If I understand it correctly, both sides won the trade and there was no loser. On paper, Milwaukee won. Without that trade however, who knows if the Sox would bring home a title? It was a perfect fit for both teams. Exactly. Given how highly the NFL values draft picks, the Bears paid a huge price here. But it was entirely the correct move for that team.
-
QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) Bingo I do not believe that any team named bingo was involved in that trade.
-
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) Why does one team have to win a trade? It seems to me that the Bears got something they haven't had in my life time and the Broncos recieved good compensation for it. It's way to early to decide if it was a good trade, but both teams appear to have improved their positions. Who won the Scott Podsednik and Luiz Vizcaino for Carlos Lee trade?

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 11:15 AM) they aren't going to be using pure applied statistics algorithms from what i'm reading. even with standard usage, applied statistics is easy to abuse. it totally relies on an unbiased sample. i think your example of how redistricting is abused is a good example of what is to come. both parties do it. Except of course, the Supreme Court has already said you can't use statistically corrected samples in redistricting.

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 12:27 PM) Its hard to believe he is going to be very good this year when St. Louis had one of the worst OLines in the league and were happy to let him walk. I dunno how much he has left in the tank, but I think best bet is he is decent this year. Anything more than that would be a surprise imo. This is the NFL. You can't just look at whether or not a team let someone walk on its own, you have to look at the salary issues as well. Cutting Pace for this year saved the Rams $6 million in cap space. That's more than he'll cost the Bears by a fair amount I believe. And the Bears started off the FA period with significantly more cap room than the Rams had.

QUOTE (chunk23 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 12:35 PM) Plaxico was just released. Comes with a lot of baggage, but would you see him as a fit here? It's no question the Bears need to add a top WR. Plax will probably be in jail this year if the Giants are releasing him.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 10:41 AM) What about jokes involving HFCS? Fair play? That just starts us on the slippery, but also somewhat sticky slope to jokes involving all sorts of products. Clearly we need to ban those jokes to keep a limit on where my corn-sex jokes can be taken. -
CNN is now reporting 4 dead, more than 12 others wounded.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 10:31 AM) Is Boldin still potentially available? I am dreaming of Boldin in the slot and Holt and Hester split wide... I highly doubt you'd be getting him in exchange for a 2nd rounder.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 10:37 AM) ROFL. I could write a script for you guys to tell you how this thread is going to go to save you all time, if you like. I know I for one intend to continue using jokes related to corn. Or as the Native Americans call it, maize. -

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 10:35 AM) So there's nothing wrong with polygamy or first-cousin marriages then right? Or marrying corn. Delicious corn. -
Obama nominates a uniquely qualified person to run the 2010 census. Expert in statistics. Worked in the Census Bureau under George H.W. Bush. The Republican response of course...is to respond angrily, because the guy actually may know what he's doing, and we certainly can't allow that.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 10:18 AM) I think that is somewhat aided by the success of Cassel as well... Everyone knew about Cassel a couple months ago when there was talk of Sanchez going around 18-19 to the Bears, Jets, even the Lions. Now there's talk of him going #4 to the Seahawks or something in that range.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 10:11 AM) And this right here is the single biggest reason why the social conservative movement in this country is, thankfully, dying off. If the GOP makes a comeback, it will be as small government, low tax, pro-business, personal freedoms crusaders. Considering that they've decided that the best way to respond to one of the biggest presidential blowouts in 40 years appears to be to double down on their base, I'd like to say I'll believe it when I see it. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 09:54 AM) I actually sat right next to Sanchez right after his proday (and the rest of the USC guys) and he got a call during his dinner (I was about 1 foot from him the entire time over at ESPN Zone before I went to see Chris Paul beat the Clippers) and some team called him up raving about his workout and when he got off the phone he looked at his mom and said, mom, I might be going earlier than any of us thought. No idea if that meant anything or not. Sanchez was also raving about some guy whom I didn't know ofs workout and all of the USC guys were talking about how much that guy helped his stock. Don't ask me, I Follow the draft and enjoy it but I don't know of every guy USC has. Sanchez seems to be uniformly flying up people's draft boards right now.

Cowley: Alexei Best Sox Defensive Player of Spring Training
Balta1701 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Alexei's chances of winning a gold glove depend entirely on how many times the White Sox load the bases for him.
